| What is it about Harley's? Posted: 1/29/2006 8:54:17 AM | I love Harleys. I've had two, plus a Triumph, a BSA, and a Vespa. But I don't think they are very good for long distance travel, especially in more primitive areas. I've already traveled across America two times on a Harley, and after the second time, I swore I'd never do it again. I'm hoping to travel across mainly third world countries in the near future, and eventually end up in Asia. So, for my needs, I have a Suzuki dual-sport. It is my sole transportation. No doubt about, though...Harleys are cool bikes. | |

| What is it about Harley's? Posted: 1/29/2006 9:49:07 AM | there's something about hitting second gear and twisting it out and the lady screaming her head off behind you! whether it is good bad or indifferent. it all comes down to pleasing the woman!. Are they noisey? yes, are they obnoxious, yes! does it make the ladies panties wet?? lol so yea! that is why. An overpriced vibrator is what they should be called! But the new honda cbr's. have the pipe right under the seat, and they say that it works like a charm! | |

| What is it about Harley's? Posted: 1/29/2006 11:13:26 AM | Before you jump on me, I used to own one but it doesn't mean I am a biker. LOL But what I see here is SO many white folks mention a harley in their ad, whether they have them or not. SO many women are looking for a guy who rides (I don't look at men's ads!).
It seems to be a white folk thing. Like Nascar. and Bowling, lmao.
To the original poster child
Didn't know only "white folks" rode Harleys. Guess ever since we began to share water fountains and bus seats, I haven't heard such a bigoted remark concerning white folks only ride bikes. So, Im thinking no one is jumping on you for the sportster you once owned. They are jumping on ya cause of your jeff gordon glasses and your redneck opinions and remarks.
"white Folks"...i cant believe that remark.

| What is it about Harley's? Posted: 1/29/2006 5:42:00 PM | It's a lifestyle and here is me, a none white dude with the badest bike, lol! And for those that likes to shit on HD, jealousy will not get you anywhere in life, go home and eat another granola bar and drink your fat free water.
My guess is some biker dude dump your fat ass because your cheeks are hanging over the edges of the seat and now you got to get a boat!

| What is it about Harley's? Posted: 1/29/2006 5:48:10 PM | It is not always about the road travelled, but about the trip. I love to ride my bike. It is as simple as that. I don't have a "LOUD" Harley, but I do own a Harley. It is a personal choice to make it loud and obnoxious. I am not that kind of person, as I said... I ride to ride. I pay the same insurance rates as the rest of you, and I do wear a helmet on the longer trips I take, if I am only going 10 miles to work, I may not, it depends on the road conditions. I have lost 3 friends to Motorcycle accidents, and I mourn the loss. I also lost 4 friends in the World Trade Center on 9/11, we lose people on this planet for all reasons. I have even lost 2 friends in one car because of the "safety device" seatbelts. what does this all mean? I haven't the foggiest... All I know is... I love to ride, and I try to be respectful. All I ask is... Let me have my joy.
Thank you for your time,
ME.

| What is it about Harley's? Posted: 1/30/2006 7:08:19 AM | I rode Harley's for years. I was a Harley snob. Then I grew up. I found out that there are motorcycles, that start every time hot or cold. That don't vibrate so bad that you can't see out of the mirror's!
I have a Kawasaki Concours now. The perfect bike. Quiet, comfortable, fast, goes 280 miles on a fill up, and hasn't needed any repairs in 10,000 miles. No Harley can do that.
I'm riding my "riceburner" to Sturgis this year (1,100 miles) and will hold my head high! And I will laugh at every Harley rider on the side of the road working on their hunk of junk!
|
| What is it about Harley's? Posted: 1/30/2006 7:24:21 AM | well I have a Harley and I listed it on my post because it could be a common thread.I would hope to meet someone that also enjoys riding.Harleys or any other kind of motorcycle are not boring if you ride with the right person. | |
|
| What is it about Harley's? Posted: 1/30/2006 11:17:03 AM | guitarman, just cuz you owned a 883, did not make you a Harley snob !!
and when you do ride your riceburner to Sturgis , we still make you park down wind !!!
As for a hunk of junk, my scooter has always got me home, by the way whats that Cryaskaki going to be worth in ten years, mine is worth more now then when I bought it.
I don't know why do Riceburners riders whine when they talk.

| What is it about Harley's? Posted: 1/30/2006 11:43:05 AM | Considering my Kaw cost $7,500 brand new, and a Dressed out Electraglide cost $30,000, I'd say it doesn't matter what its worth in 10 years. In ten years I will have rode the $7,500 out of it. On the other hand, as soon as you roll the Electraglide of the lot, it will decrease $7,500. There is no justification for the price of Harleys.
Harleys are overpriced, and you always have to work on them.
Good one on the 883 though. I'll give you that one. I did have a 1983 -883, and a 2001 -1000 sportster. Both were overpriced junk.
Since I went to a Kaw I just ride and change the oil every 5 K miles. Never a problem.

| What is it about Harley's? Posted: 1/30/2006 10:23:51 PM | You play, you pay! Listen to all these pantsy whinning about the noise, the cost, blah blah blah, that's the beauty of it and if you're worry about breaking a nail, keep riding your kawi but don't shit all over HD's.
HD's is a special bike and it ain't for everyone, which is great, that's the nostalgia behind it, it just makes guys like me even more unique and special. You sir with the 883, I'm glad you no longer have one cuz you don't deserve to ride one and btw judging by you buying a 883, you're one of those cheap skate, too cheap to buy a real man's bike, no wonder you didn't have a nice experience, you ain't got what it takes to play the big boy's game.
As to the km.... I logged in my good share last year (don't even think "what? to the bar?", no, I ride everywhere) and I also didn't have to fix nothing, on top of it all.... I got flashed and whistle at many of times (but that's not why I got a HD!). I ain't never heard that about guys on Kawi getting that. So keep logging on those Km, cuz that's all you got, you, the bike and pavement, while I will gladly deal with the noise, the ladies, lifestyle, wind in my hair and be a man to get my hands dirty with my bike, there ain't nothing wrong with that.

| What is it about Harley's? Posted: 1/31/2006 1:20:06 AM | It's an ATTITUDE... It's a PASSION... and so very true.. if you need it explained to you then you really just don't understand.
I have never owned one but have dated guys with Harleys. My Daddy and Uncle had a harley, so I do not like... LOVE them as a status thing like some people say. There is just nothing better than being on the back of a harley.. cruising wherever your heart sends you. I date someone now with a honda and a yamaha... I do love to ride and will continue to ride either with him as long as he has them. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he trades them both in on.... A HARLEY!!!!
I love the smell of leather on me and my man... and feeling that horsepower under me. I enjoy being around the "biker" type people.. LOL.. does this make me a biker babe?? I sure hope so!!
Noise pollution... huh? THAT is one of the things people like about harleys... that rumbling noise, that is also why Honda and Yamaha are now making their bikes to look and sound like a harley so more people will buy them. I have two rides coming up this weekend and I am just soooooooooooooo excited. I'll be on a bike for two days.

| What is it about Harley's? Posted: 1/31/2006 1:21:05 AM | The two best things to put between my legs....

| What is it about Harley's? Posted: 1/31/2006 6:57:31 AM | A real man's bike? You live in Canada you dimwit! There's snow on the ground like what? Ten months out of the year? Like you ride a lot. Ha. I ride 10,000 to 15,000 miles a year. All I want is me, the bike, and the pavement.
A real biker from Canada. That's funny!
Get over yourself dude! Or should I say dud?
Go shovel some snow or something!
|
| What is it about Harley's? Posted: 1/31/2006 8:10:09 AM | well queertarman....this is another dimwit that lives in Canada and you have it backwards, not surprising being from Arkansas, but where I live there is snow only 2 months a year. So when you are going to Sturgis, are you loading your bike up on your Toyota pickup?
Harley Davidson...ride a legend...don't tell us bout your scooter

| What is it about Harley's? Posted: 2/1/2006 2:55:56 AM | Wow! Some great posts here, for and against. I agree with many of you, especially, about the inconsiderate biker who hauls a*s*s over fragile terrain and disturbs the peace and tranquility of others enjoying same. I have hiked and camped in the high country and I hate to see it trampled and ruined by dirt bikes and stupidity and loud-mouth jerks. But I'm thinking that that type would be inconsiderate riding anything and in any environment and not just because he/she is riding a Harley. I also agree that not all "bikers" are posers, or covered from head-to-toe with colorful tats, or who has to stop and fuel himself every few miles. Most of the men/women I know who ride, are professional people and are very responsible. AND, very experienced riders! I further agree that Harleys aren't necessarily the most comfortable riding bikes, but I love the sound of them and the smell of leather and the guys who ride 'em.
I live just south of Daytona Beach, Florida. Every spring and fall, two major bike events draw bike enthusiasts from around the world. This March, the area is expecting over 20,000 bikers for Bikeweek, and this March, sadly, many of them will be in fatal accidents. Florida dropped their helmet law some time ago, and the intelligence of that is highly debated with worthy opinions on both sides. I wear a helmet, I feel safer wearing one, but I often ride behind a biker who doesn't wear one. Many of the fatalities are not because the rider wasn't wearing a helmet -- many of the accidents are so horrible that with/without helmet wouldn't have mattered. One biker I know, in a fatal accident died because his head injury caused massive swelling before his helmet could be removed. And a Harley rider will tell you that the "noise" from his bike allows for others in the same traffic, to know he's back there.
Many of the accidents around here are from inexperience. The wannabee's talked about in this forum... come here during bike week and get so caught up in the sheer number of bikes and riders with their "chicks" that they just have to have one -- many never having ridden before. Accidents are also because of stupidity. One of out 12 people who live in my area own a bike (I do not, but love to ride with someone who does.) and there are many irresponsible riders, especially those who drink and ride. That would be true if they were driving a truck or a car. Alcohol and riding/driving--not a good idea.
I've ridden behind on Harleys and Hondas and one 1800 Rouche that can fly! I prefer the very comfortable Hondas. I plan on being on the back of a bike during bike week and flirting with others who like to ride. Someday I'd love to ride the loops of Colorado (Winter Park, Tellluride, Steamboat, and Crested Butte)-- just need an experienced mountain biker to ride with. HINT!
This August, I've been invited to join a group trailering (that is a debatable issue too-- trailer vs riding the whole way) out to Sturgis. I'm very excited about going. Great bunch of men and women who are experienced, sensitive to the environment, and responsible --good people.
