| Disabilities Posted: 11/11/2005 1:44:44 PM | | Why should i have to explain my cynicism? People who think they have compasion are lack insight. That is what is wrong with Canadians. We think we are morally superior to other human beings. We are not superior at all . we just have never been tested. we have never had a major war on our land. we have never faced deep deep poverty. We don't even understand what competion for scarce resources means. Just like the Germans followed Hitler we are equally capable of doing that. Many of us are of german ancestry. | |

Someone is actually making fun of me as a depressive while people are screaming how compassionate they are. No, you are not compassionate. Nope, never said I was.
On topic, Yes, I have turned down dating someone with physical disabilities, just like I've turned down lots of people. Friends, okay, but dating or anything more serious, you're gonna be picky...chose someone who has similar interests, outlook on life, intelligence so you can have a decent conversation, some of the same physical activities.
I used to live in snobby subdivisions it seems, now I live in the "bad" part of town. It has even been referred to as Mutantville. But the kids and I are really happy here, we don't look down on our neighbours...in fact we "fit in" quite nicely, so there you go mcfarland. bite me

| Disabilities Posted: 11/11/2005 1:50:04 PM | | My disability is lack of confidence. I can assure you everyone take advantage of my weakness. Other weak people are the worst. I find it a bit sickening that you people think you are compassionate. a cyper hug is worthless to me. | |

| Disabilities Posted: 11/11/2005 1:59:11 PM | Ya gotta experience it to know the misery,,, so much in our World is developed for the disabled by the abled,, abled by the way is a non-existent word without the dis prefix. Anyhow whats a greater disability, Schizofrenia or a bland, MOR, deep pocketed, 4X4'ing administrative assistant? I don't know where I'm going with this........... | |

| Disabilities Posted: 11/11/2005 1:59:57 PM | This thread was only meant to bring about an awareness of possible disabilities within the POF community and the misinterpretation of them.
It was NOT for:
Insults (joking or other wise)
and there we find our first example.
And there we find our second example
Lets not pretend we care about disadvantaged people because we don't. We are human and inherently selfish. We are just feeling good about ourselves as compared to a disabled person. for the most part, the disabled are terrified that normal people will find their disability because all humans are judgemental and evil.
Flaming
You can spot the depressives...
look at message 18.... see what I mean?
Deeply depressive....all the Prozac in the western hemisphere may not do the trick.....
Hijacking
what about physical disabilities? what if you really liked someone, they were good looking and intelligent but they had a physical disability - would your interest in them change? Be honest....

Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but let's try and act like adults.

| Disabilities Posted: 11/11/2005 2:00:16 PM | Is your point to make new friends, date? Judgemental people, it starts within, if you want to change the world to be more sensitive and compassionate you should start from within yourself to teach and set the example to others...of tolerance, acceptance and openess.
Seems to me, the things you are complaining of in others is exactly what you are putting forth in cyber space.

You people lack insight so bad. You are extremely insensitive.
"you people" vs "me person"
Every person has some disability, but we are not here as your councellor, nor do we come here expecting compassion and/or councelling.
Being in POF is a priviledge and an option. Take your whining somewhere else.

Again, you're off topic. The mods are watching and have no problem either deleting off topic posts or deleting entire user accounts for continued violation.
Thanks for your opinion, now move along.

Here's yet another decent thread brought down by one person drawing attention to him/her self.
|
| Disabilities Posted: 11/11/2005 2:31:03 PM | Let's not give him anymore fuel for the fire.
He has been reported and we will most likely not see him around much longer.
Kill the thread.

| Disabilities Posted: 11/11/2005 2:58:38 PM | | This thread started off good with the premise that we should be tolerant of people who appear different or who have difficulty fitting in. Unfortunately, the thread turned into a bully-fest where a very innocent victim was repeatedly psychologically raped. Yep, I'm disabled and you guys showed your true colours. | |

| Disabilities Posted: 11/11/2005 3:07:51 PM | My son's best friend has Cerebral Palsy and she is in a wheel chair, or uses crutches. She's a great teenager and fits in well with all the other teens, like at our Halloween Party. I think it's because she is so nice, funny, happy, almost always smiling. I don't even notice her so-called disabilities when she's over, then somebody will ask and it will take me off guard, weird huh?
People like that are inspirational, and like the original post said(I paraphrase) there may be many people on here who have some sort of a disability or another. We don't know it or realize it and should keep it under consideration.
Thanks for the reminder BBE

| Disabilities Posted: 11/11/2005 3:10:57 PM | macfarlane, sorry to hear you have a disablility, but you really brought it on yourself by attacking everyone and anybody around you. There are decent people out in the, I'm sorry that you have been completely unfortunate not come across them. You must start with yourself. Like minded people attract other likeminded people.
sorry bbe for going off topic.

| Disabilities Posted: 11/11/2005 3:15:52 PM | I find it interesting that the "bully" in this scenario is the ONE person who claims to be the victim,... wtf is with that? It appears to me the tables have been turned and now the able-bodied folks are getting slammed for no just cause. Many contributors in here admitted to having had their eyes opened and our ways changed,... via walking a mile in someone elses shoes or next to their wheels. Ignorance and intolerance are NOT a physically tangible disabilities but ones that glare us in the face on a daily basis wherever we go. Case in point. | |

yeah, me too, just that some people make me soooo maaaaadddd that I cant help myself....
It's a good thread, we don't want it deleted....
I am going to seriously consider it when people with really bad spelling email me....could be a learning disability, head injury, etc...

I'm usually such a stickler for spelling and grammer...
