| I just quit smoking 4 days ago .......Any tips/advice? Posted: 1/1/2006 9:28:23 PM | I noticed after 4.5 days that the withdraw was making me ill. Damn, had a smoke, smoke is making me ill. I feel like I can win. Fortunatly I have a few friends that are helpful without being full of pressure. I don't want to smoke, don't intend to smoke, but I so need not to feel the withdraw.
Yuck. | |

| I just quit smoking 4 days ago .......Any tips/advice? Posted: 1/1/2006 9:34:08 PM | Several of my POF friends have told me they're in the process of quitting or already have, and I really want to quit, so I guess it's time! I bought the 2 mg. starter kit of Nicorette gum yesterday. I guess I will really stop in the next day or two. I too have a nasty cough and cold and I'm still puffing away even with a sore throat. Geeeezzzz!
Thanks for all the tips and advice! A friend of mine used to chew Red Vines instead of smoke. I quit smoking for 20 years. Did it cold turkey back when I was in my 20's. I wouldn't even date a guy that smoked after that.
I started again in 2001 with a nasty divorce. Dumb! Dumb! Dumb! It helps me to remember that it's one more way he hurt me, and I can't let him have one iota of influence over my life anymore ever, so I have to quit! I was gonna smoke for one year and quit again, but it's so much harder to quit this time around. I quit for a week in 2002, but in a moment of weakness I bought some ciggies and started again. I know I may have to give up coffee and liquor for a while so my emotional resistance doesn't weaken.
Thank you again everyone for your tips and support. I'll be back at this thread and the sites cited here often.
Good luck to all!

the week before you quit put all your butts into a jar and fill it with water. Everytime you crave a smoke open the jar and take a good long wiff.
Also drink lots of water to flush your body.

| I just quit smoking 4 days ago .......Any tips/advice? Posted: 1/2/2006 2:12:40 PM | My Lord, I havent had a smoke since midnight onnew years and I think im going to go crawl into a hole and die now. LOL Chewed on everything in my house. Out of chewing stuff. No gum, no candies, no suckers....no nails. I have a bad headache. Im starving Ive fallen asleep 3 times today, fell asleep on the couch watching tv with my daughter. She woke my up by sticking her finger in my nose. All i can think about is a smoke. Ive dug up my entire house looking for one. And it's also spotless now. I painted my bathroom. Still thinking about a friggen smoke. I cant live like this. I bought some gum today, couldnt stand the crap, it was gross, didnt curb my need at all. No patches today, no money for them. Tried them before, made me sick. I woke up sick this morning. Ive been crying since yesterday, yelling since yesterday. Never been so angry before. My sister left to go to a friends house because she couldnt stand me. I called my mom to pick up my daughter because I didnt want he to see me angry or crying, and i didnt want to accidentally yell at her. This is pure hell. My mom bought me this anxeity spray to use, when i get the urge to smoke, im supposed to spray it in my mouth, and it gets rid of it somehow. Supposed to use it 3-4 times a day. I went through half the bottle already. Now that's making me sick. I have some "smokers withdrawl" pills that ive been taking since yesterday. Supposed to take 2-3 daily. Ive taken 6 and they still havent helped.
The people who make "quit smoking" products suck. LOL
Maybe in a few days the craving will do away. Until then, nobody is allowed to be around me.
Im looking forward to being able to breathe clearly again. To not wake up in the morning coughing my head off, and then....the green goop. BLEH.
My god, id do anything for a cigarette right now. No i wouldnt. Yes I would. AARRGGHH.

| I just quit smoking 4 days ago .......Any tips/advice? Posted: 1/2/2006 2:18:11 PM | Hang in there girl... it takes a bit but think of what it has done to your body to smoke for the time you have.... Your mind is playing tricks with you to convince you to have one... please don't.
If it helps google msn quit smoking.. I found msn about the most informative and helpful.
If there is any way I can help mail me, I did find being alone and hiding under my covers helpful until the craving passed.
Good luck and believe me many here will be on your side and willing to help
A medication that can help, percribed by a doc only, is welbrutrin

| I just quit smoking 4 days ago .......Any tips/advice? Posted: 1/2/2006 2:34:13 PM | Good for you, Melly!! Just remember, as long as you don't smoke, you will never have to go through this again. It will be over with before you know it and your suffering will be done. So will your feeling like crap from smoking, getting out of breath doing simple little things, and you'll be doing yourself and your daughter many favours health-wise. Plus you'll have that money for putting towards other things. =)
Keep it up and don't give in! And get educated, a healthy, honest look at smoking/addiction and everything behind it can help you get a better perspective! Take care!!

| I just quit smoking 4 days ago .......Any tips/advice? Posted: 1/2/2006 3:13:49 PM | first off congrats on the quitting!!!! i smoked for about 5 years or so....however i have to admit...i was ready to quit and i did it cold turkey with no problems!! its not that easy for everyone so what kind of advice i give may not work for everyone. first of all...keep your mind busy with other things....and keep your body busy. taking up reading...bad call....honestly you have chosen to live a healthier lifestyle by quitting....so why stop there?! i would sincerely suggest getting into some kind of physical activities.....i took up weight training and havent looked back! there's sooo many things to do...but the key, or one of em...is to stay focussed and keep the mind off of the thought of puffing. if you have a man/woman in your life...they NEED to offer support when the tough times come...if they do at all. you WILL be ****y at times and he/she must understand that. avoid situations where you may be subjected to smokers and the temptation to light up. if your bf/gf smokes...tell em to stop ASAP!!! a lot to ask, but it IS a life choice and putting yourself in those situations is not going to help. i lost my dad to lung cancer 4 years ago, and i still remember how he used to mock my choice of a healthy lifestyle...only to try desperate things near the end....like juicing and eating proper when it was obviously too late. it's not too late for you though so be strong and fight it baby!!!! i wish you the best of luck...but i dont think you'll need much! take care!
