| Best gig/concert you've ever been to Posted: 8/19/2007 10:14:33 AM | Oh my gosh! How could I have forgotten 1969 and the free concert with the Rolling Stones in Hyde Park saying goodbye to Brian Jones with thousands of butterflies
Oh yes, and the two that made me deaf! 'World Party' & 'Dead or Alive 'at the Leeds Warehouse circa early 80's?

| Best gig/concert you've ever been to Posted: 8/19/2007 11:19:50 AM | My favourites in the last few years : Fun Lovin Crims xmas gigs that are played at the Point. If you ever go to one don't bother with paying for the seats upstairs, you'll have more fun staying down on the main floor where you can dance around Chili Peppers in Phoenix Park - Flea just cracks me up
Can remember going to see ManOWar at Milton Keynes - that was well worth the travelling just to see the bottomless trousers!
My first ever gig was Iron Maiden at Donnington - my b/f took me on his Triumph T90

Hawkwind, several times
Wowsers, I took my dad to see them in December last year, they are old but still rocking!
It was much trancier than I expected, all strange psy trance sounds mixed with the rock and the back drop was very 'free love and drugs' type thing. Was a pleasant surprise I must say although they did not do 'Silver Machine' which I found strange.

Hawkwind, several times
my father saw them a few times during the 70's. they use lazer, lights and Pyrotechnics. well just after the Birmingham pub bombings my father went to see Hawkwind and they used the usual show, most people thought it was a bomb. made the local news at the time.
i have seen a few big named bands, but find the smaller circit bands who are trying to get record deals more agressive. im a metal head or use to be

| Best gig/concert you've ever been to Posted: 8/19/2007 4:29:16 PM | This brings up the arguement of old music versus new music! All the newer bands I have seen, do their biggest hits live! They would not dare not perform them in this day and age.
I think if that is the reason they did not do 'Silver Machine' then it shows that they should never have had a hit with that song! What sort of band has a hit that can not be perfomed live? Cheating I think! No wonder the songs are so good with all that specialised equipment making it!
If it can not be perfomed live, it should not be made!
To an above poster - I saw the Lost Prophets earlier this year too, they were an excellent band live, just not as good as my top three!
I am dying to see the Foo Fighters, that Dave Grohl is an amazing front man! As soon as the tickets go on sale for a tour, I will be there without a doubt!
VVVVV Dad was annoyed that they did not play it! Also I said 'if' as another poster suggested that was the reason.

| Best gig/concert you've ever been to Posted: 8/19/2007 4:35:12 PM | They can and do (or at least, did) do Silver Machine. They played it every time I saw them. The last time was at Rock City in 2001 or 2002. I'd happily see them again. The best time I saw them was at Leicester, I was on the sound deck (sometimes being a short-ar$e is a good thing) because the engineers took pity on me. Best sound in the house and best view of the laser stuff.
Also got to mention Tangerine Dream at Birmingham.

Lol, I'd have been well miffed if they hadn't played it too, specially as the first time I saw them, that was about all I knew of theirs.
Reminds me, I really must start searching for and downloading all the music that I lost through two divorces...... how careless of me

| Best gig/concert you've ever been to Posted: 8/20/2007 10:24:30 AM | well that bring up the other half of the argument and why some of the top band dont perform there best work when doing live concerts i.e beach boys for one dropped loads of songs other bands do like wise--------- the reason given in an interview was they and fans get fed up hearing same concert all the time so shuffle out old and play new or forgotten tracks..
If it can not be perfomed live, it should not be made!
think of some of the best music we could have missed out on

| Best gig/concert you've ever been to Posted: 8/20/2007 10:47:09 AM | UB40 and their support last December in Birmingham totally gave their all on stage
Christina Aguilera was excellent in concert and would see again anytime
Cher awesome cannot fault her performance.. she knows how to work the crowd
Nelly Furtado also rates very highly & I would recommend any of the above in concert
If anyone wants a 'concert partner' to any of the above let us know...

| Best gig/concert you've ever been to Posted: 8/20/2007 11:03:29 AM | Truth ?? Quality ..Toyah at the birmingham Odeon ..way back in my rebellious yrs lol ..have yet to see that much energy by any performer ..
Quantity.. Stevie Nicks at the NEC... when she sang " Edge of seventeen" and the doves came out memory i will never forget ... Showmanship.. got to be Bon Jovi ..pyrotechnics and the like...(also me and my then partner are in the "sleep when im dead" video lol and we got better seats coz she was a dwarf lol and a bit of banter/cheek with security guards.
BEST FORGOTTEN !! ..Donnington Monsters of Rock 1990 i think ..but as i said best forgotten Iron Maiden headlined .. and i had to have a wee shower (yes those that dont know can guess)as the mud from the slides/pyramids and the bike sledding deemed me and 90% of the coach party unfit to get back on the coach after 2 days so it was basically it was the hair that was the prob(as it was a bit girly) as the rest scrapped off ..so a bottle of head and shoulders and your best mate on the steps of the coach ... sorted lol... would i do it agian ? HELL YEAH !!!!! but think id use tresseme now lol

| Best gig/concert you've ever been to Posted: 8/21/2007 2:17:56 AM | I have been to many concerts it is hard to choose just one.
My 2 youngest were into Steps so I took them to see them and I have to be honest it was one of the best concerts I have ever been to.
My number one concert I would have to say would be Tina Turners last ever concert on her farewell tour at the old Wembley. She had Lionel Ritchie supporting her ,so we had an hour or so of him and then Tina. 2 stars for the price of one ....Just an amazing night!

| Best gig/concert you've ever been to Posted: 8/21/2007 8:47:40 AM | the original pink floyds "thewall" concert at londons earls court, it was my first trip to london aged 17, i've been to many concerts since but nothing has ever topped that one. i still have my ticket stub at the bottom corner of a framed picture, and a few years ago i returned home and was looking through my old things in my room for the concert programme, i couldn't find it so i asked mum if she new where it was, she sheepishly admitted she'd sold it for £1.00 at a car boot sale!! i was gutted i still am gutted and i guess i always will be | |

| Best gig/concert you've ever been to Posted: 8/21/2007 3:14:05 PM | I saw 'Eric goes fishing' at the Alexandra Hotel in Chatham recently. £6 to get in,and free booze and Pizza at the interval. Well,i say interval... We booed them off stage after 38 mins and nicked a load of food and whisky during the Fight that ensued. Sadly,i don;t think they'll ever make it Big. Which is a shame, cos my mate keith has an excellent photo of me smacking their drummer with a fire extinguisher. | |
