Wondering if the courses are green in Cowtown

maybe the Flames can be the Oilers caddies on the golf course, no?
Sorry Ravyyn but the Oilers still have more seniority on the courses. Maybe next season though......

Uber, Uber, Uber. I'm occasionally surprised how sensitive a few of the flames fans get, and often appalled by the behavior of the odd one.

Good to see the bandwagon jumpers in Edmonton showing their true colors

By the way, Spoilers fans,

your horrible team got to spend a week shoveling their sidewalks and playing NHL 2008 pretending to win the Stanley Cup again, while we did get an honest spot in the playoffs

when you slam a team for being better than you are.

And this just in your last post or two. Almost surreal how much of the complaining on these threads regarding conduct come from folks making comments like these.
Oh yeah, and comments like this too, thanks.
It really shows your intelligence, or lack thereof,
maybe grab a mirror

OT Sad about the Flames neighbors. Second period was..........can't use that language here Next season

Grey, I hardly think this is unjustified sensitivity.

After the Oilers failed to make the playoffs, I offered my condolences, and didn't sit there for the last two weeks taking jabs at them and telling them how badly their team did. I honestly admitted that they did a great job in the last month that gave them a real shot at actually making them.

The amount of cognitive dissonance that goes on in claiming that the Oilers are still somehow a better team, and how the Flames just got lucky and how they did just as badly as expected and whatever other jibes you want to throw at them, is simply astounding.

The end result: Flames got 91 games this season. Oilers and Canucks got 84. You do the math.

I'm not going to spend the next two weeks making excuses for a team that got further than either of the other two represented in this thread, and I think it just shows immaturity and sour grapes when my team DOES make the playoffs, and BECAUSE of my team, your team, be they Vancouver or Edmonton, didn't make it. Sorry guys. You were outplayed. Plain and simple.

See you in September for the next round!

The number of games is of little consequence now, the players will be cleaning their foot lockers this week and will head to their respective "resort" locations for the summer.

I didn't get to watch the game, actually I opted not to in hopes the Flames would pull off another night like with game #6, but to no avail.

The better team won, and that's that. It was an exciting last two and a half month's seeing and reading about the good, the bad and the ugly, whether it was for the Flames or their rivals to the North, both teams put their best skates forward, but caught an edge and stumbled.

See you all next September for the new onslaught of slurs, kudo's and just plain updates.

(no we are NOT in Grade school here)

we bug ya cuz we like ya!
all the ribbing and whatnot that I typed was meant in good humor. IF we did not, someone might wonder if we cared about this great game at all.

in response to Rangerz posts, I almost get the impression there is 2 of them - two different styles of posts

Mommy
you booboo'd, Joe Mullen won 3 cups - ONE with Calagary and 2 with Pittsburgh - it is in your copied post

now, lets all meet at the closet, thawed course and flip for beers!!!!

Bang on, sleepsalone. That's exactly the reason we bug them. In fact, the Flames fans did exactly that and worse during our cup run two years ago. Many of them had sleepless nights and became instant fans of each team we faced. I remember many laughing and celebrating when Roloson was injured in game 1 of the finals. I can honestly say the Oiler fans are not that malicious, but then again, we don't carry the same level of insecurity about our sports history. Anyway, after all is said and done, the Oilers are still the last Northwest Division team to be Western Conference champions and go to the finals. I know, it's lame, but I'll still hold that one over you guys.

Good point if we want to play golf we can do it in San Jose. Meanwhile I have to bloody shovel snow yet again. Always funny to see Oiler fans beg for Calgary to choke in the playoffs when you canèt make it in. When you did make it in you got to Carolina game 7 and choked. At least when Calgary played Tampa they missed the phantom OT goal because of no overhead cameras. And just as JR reminded me last night without Gretzky the flames and Oil each have one cup. Guess we all gotta cheer for the Habs now Prolly woulda pi$$ed most of this city off if the Flames won the cup again.

At least the Edmonton fans have the Eskimoes to look forward too here comes 2-3 wins this season.

Oh and last but not least why does edmonton have a habit of trading their captains away Coffey Gretz Mess Smyth and Smith. Donèt remember if Glenn anderson was ever a captain tho maybe Oiler fans will.

and itès a 33 M defence. Donèt forget Rehger

Well said Uber. We eliminated the Oil from getting into the Playoffs and they helped ou out by knocking the nuckz out too. Real easy for Oil fans to hate the flames but at least they should look at their own team when they fail to make the playoffs and I really donèt want to get started on the eskies again Maybe theyèll have a perfect season this year 0-16... Hmm wonder if the Oilers will make the playoffs next season.

You seem a little confused, RangerzJon. Here, I'll break it down for you.

Definition of Choke Job:
2004: Flames lead the series against the Lightning 3-2 and drop both clinching games to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Definition of something that is not a choke job:

2006: Oilers claw their way back from a 3-1 series deficit to force a deciding game 7.

Hope that clears up your confusion.

JR reminded me last night without Gretzky the flames and Oil each have one cup.

Silly reasoning, but let's go with it. Now, I don't know if you watched hockey back then, but I certainly did. I think you forgot to mention that they lost more than just Gretzky, they had also lost Paul Coffey by then.

Anyway, the Flames have won zero cups without Theo Fleury.

Oil fans are glad we are out only because they remember who ELIMINATED them.

It was ceremonial anyway. We were really eliminated when the Preds had won their game earlier in the day. They had two easy games in hand and only needed a point to eliminate us. I think most of us knew before the game that even if we won our game against the Flames and the next one against the Nucks, we were officially done after the Preds beat the Blues that day.

True but the Flames lost 2-1 in their games 7 not 3-1 and the Flames in 2004 played 4 #1 seeds to get to game 7 look it up. Vancouver, Detroit, San Jose Then overall Tampa. Win or lose we donèt consider our team a failure and start trading captains away. We can debate this til next season but until the Oilers make the playoffs again not much to be said I will still be wearing my Flames shirt for the rest of the year simply because we made the playoffs and almost took the sharks out. Besides in Calgary at least we know who our starting goalie is.

If the Oilers get rid of Roloson and make Garon their starter they will make the playoffs, as for Cujo I donèt know if he back next season but Kipper will be fighting with Leyland Irving for the #1 spot next season. Too bad the Leafs traded Carey Price lol.

Did your Oilers score a goal in game 6 OT that was not reviewed that would have given you the cup. Me thinks not. And ps It wasnèt theo that got us the cup it was Roberts and Newie and Vernon. Donèt know if you watch hockey when Lanny used to play for the Flames and Leafs. Coffey was always my favorite Oiler almost as exciting to watch as Cam Neely. Or Probably Bobby Orr way before my time.

And true point even if you won the game the preds were going to eliminate you and the nuckz anyways. Gotta get rid of this damn french keyboard must be a sign of the Habs,

Time to shovel snow, ps where do I find the other threads anyways.

Yeah, I was tempted to add that both teams, and twentysomething others have NO cups with say, Gordie Howe or Bobby Orr. Irrelevant!
Now to just sweet talk old man Winter though.

lol...Rangerz, c'mon, now you're sound desperate.

Seriously, you played a Vancouver team that has traditionally been soft in the playoffs and had Cloutier, and I believe Auld, as their goaltenders.

We played the Wings in the first round - first overall with 124 points. The Flames played a Wings team that had 109 points and in the second round.

The San Jose team we faced was superior to the one you faced, with the addition of the likes of Thornton. After an initial adjustment period and with the emergence of Cheechoo, they had the best record in the second half.

Here is the clincher: In 2006, we beat the Ducks team that beat your team...and we did it in 5 games and with a flu bug ravaging our team.

As for it not being Fleury that won you the cup, but Vernon, Roberts and Neiuwendyk, two points to make:
Tick tock did not say Fleury won you the Cup. He simply stated – correctly I might add – that without Theo Fleury on your team you have no cups.

2) According to the writers, it wasn't Roberts, Nieuwendyk or Vernon that got you the Cup, but Al McInnis. After all, he won the Conn Smythe that year.

In all actuality, regardless of which TEAM has won a cup in the past, it took the entire team, coaches and training staff to do it. It has been that way for decades and no doubt will reamain that way!

Even the Oilers had this come into play with their cup wins. There has never been a time that only one player has won, I haven't seen it!

Hmm was it 1987 that Hextall won the Con Smythe but the Oilers won the cup. Itès not your MVP that wins the cup genereally itès a team in a whole Maccy just had a faboulous playoffs but he didnèt get the key key goals that Newie and Roberts got. Being a flames fan I remember them and I have them on tape if any Flames fan want a copy of them. Or you can order Horror at the Forum from the calgary flames website the only team in history to win the cup on Montreals forum home ice, now I think itès the Bell center. A lot of people are in to the battle of Alberta as rivals my Rival has always been the Habs but now I gotta root for them. Actually If I recall correctly they were the last canadian team to win the cup. Price isnèt Roy but he was good at the world juniors. Got my snow shoveling done and met a few guys walking down the street wearing oiler shirts offering condolences that we got bumped. Not all Oiler fans hate the flames and not all flame fans hate the oilers itès just ribbing and jawing at each other.

Although I am a die hard flames fan and I live in Edmonton I did go to game 6 when they beat Carolina 4-0 and I did wear my flames shirt along with an Oilers cap. Hopefully the rest of Canada can now support the Habs. The 2 guys were at least happy the Leafs and Nucks missed out but at least we did agree Garon should be the #1 goalie from now on. Good luck next year but if you keep ribbing at the Flames and their fans weèll just remind you what 84 points gets you.

Geez back to the Ducks I remember last season when they started undefeated til they played the flames and we beat them and shut them out. We can all have good and bad games, Canèt really remember the year but I recall the Oilers blowing hartford away 13-0 and then losing to the Nuckz 11-0 the following game a Nuck fan would remember the year or maybe I can google it. Seems every post I make gets a response from an Oiler fan Yes weère out and yes at least we make it in. Happy now.

Ranger

Love the flu bug thing that every canadian team seems to have No american team seems to get it, not even when the Hawks played Pittsburgh in the final and got blown away did they complain about a flu bug , dunno if any of you have been to Chicago or Green Bay but itès as cold and windy as winnipeg.

And I really thought the officiating of the game was well done yesterday. although some questionable calls both ways.. Anyone wanna go golfing when the snow goes there must be a lot of experienced golfers in Edmonton. sorry :)

Geez I gotta reply to this but wasnèt Alex Auld still playing for the Manitoba Moose at the time, I know Vancouver owned his rights, Might be wrong but pretty sure he took the Moose to the championship and won it.

If anyone remembers correct me if I am wrong. Gotta still be some Jets fans around that would know this.

My roomie thinks I am a sore loser about this but I keep reminding him we donèt go trading captain after captain after captain away just to get a better draft pick. And on a side note at Least Vinny is coming to the Flames next year guess heès had it with Tampa, donèt quote me just wait til free agent signing and then weèll see how good the Flames are next year.

Anyways getting sick of this already better finish shoveling snow before I get more flame haters replying. Or I go drink some beer and listen to some music.

1 last point I really donèt think cloutier is a good goalie he has his games but heès nothing close to kipper or Garon.

Ièd hate to disagree with a fellow flame fan but when Tampa beat us it was Richards that pretty much screwed us. Or Fedetenkos 2 goals in game 7 But I would have to pick out 1994 when Mess made his gaurantee he was the reason he pumped the team up, mind you Vancouver scored that goal that was missed and all Nuck fans remember that goal in the padding and out. 2 canadian teams screwed out of cups in 14 years what do we need for a cup more development or to suck and finish last place for 4-5 years like Tampa did. Remember Ottawa sucked for so many years they made the finals and got smoked. If you make the playoffs vs any team itès great to have a game 7 win or lose itès a coin toss as someone else here said. Also good thing we locked up our core players for 4-5 years. Hope Nolan comes back for 1 more year, maybe some revenge I thought he played great in the series.

Yes, Brad Richards, the MVP, the one that the Flames traded 6 years earlier. That was priceless! Again, Mess didn't single-handedly win that series, he led his team to victory through sheer willpower, brute force, and by rising to the occasion with three goals. Again, he needed his team to win and he inspired them, while he worked some magic of his own.

LOL!!!!!

Ranger seems to forget just how close we were to making it into the playoffs this year. We came back from an enormous IR list, and many youngens new to the NHL... Wasn't a bad year in the end at all.. we managed to scare a few whose destination was the playoffs... even the Flames.

Next year WILL be a better year for the Oil... The Flames? Well, in all honesty, I hope they get new management and coaching staff.... I'm tired of watching them play the same lame plays and their tactics are getting boring and predictable... (I'm not saying that because I'm an Oilers fan, but because it's true)
