I've noticed there are a lot of fair weather fans lately too.

It's not like we haven't clinched a playoff spot, or had some really great games. This late-season slump doesn't mean we're done at all. It happens.

We'll see what place we end up in, but I'd rather be 4th or 5th and go up against Chicago, than be 3rd and play Columbus... that goalie scares me.

I heard today calgary does not care where they end up.....They are going to start resting some of there players.....Sutter said he just want to get health for the start of the playoffs.....They have alot of key guys that are playing less then 100%health...They hade a farm team on there back end the other night...lol If calgary wins there next two games they clinch the northwest....But i`am sure it will come down to saturday night......I still can`t get over the nucks losing to a nhl farm club tonight....The avs hade 10 guys out of there line up.... I knew the nucks hade to cool off a some point....They where playing over there heads..... If calgary wins tomorrow night they have a great shot at getting the 3rd seed.....GO! FLAMES GO!

You'd think if that was their strategy, they'd rest Kipper against LA. Of all the players he's going to need to be well rested, none are more important than Kiprusoff. I'd say their actions dispute their claims.

Maybe their group of owners had a chat with management and explained how extra home game is worth $3M,,, put a bit of urgency into at least finishing top 4.

Well, they put it in the win column, and some good end to end as well.

Too bad they haven't yet figured out the power play moves yet!??

That part of their game could come back to haunt them in Vancouver, or even against Edmonton with the lst two games.

Vandermeers goal was a nice assist!!

But if we are tied with the Canucks at the end of regulation games, we take the title with the wins column

Good one.
I guess in sports cliche terms it was a "non-goal scorer's goal"

Good win though. They did what they had to. The showdown in vancouver should be a good one

Tonight is the bigest game of the year... If calgary can get a win....then they win the northwest.....And then they could rest some players for the playoffs.....But i got this feeling tonights game goes to overtime or maybe a shootout......But if vancity pulls it out.... we a dead even again with 2 games to play

Sry Fab, but if it goes to shootout, means Calgary would be sure of 1 point, and that would leave them in the top position. The Canucks must win in regulation to tie us at this point.

Then the Oilers would have the excellent adventure and the position of being the spoilers, and we all know they are excellent at that type of thing, not to be nasty, it is a fact, they have had our number for many years, dang nab it!!

The Flames do need the regulation win in order to win the division tonight though

Luongo made 45 save in the game.......Calgary can`t win on the road.....So I think this team is going no where.....now that i think about that trade they made at the dead line......That was a bad move.....Because calgary has been just bad on the road ever since that point Calgary better shape up or it going to another first round exit... maybe they right about number 21....he`s not a good team player....they say oj is a cancer in the dressing room

Do I sense the bandwagon getting lighter?
Flames will be in tough against Chicago. Calgary's defence will have their hands full with a very creative Chicago squad. And Kiprusoff looks tired. But Khabibulin can be beaten, so we'll see.
It's going to come down to coaching and I'll go on record as saying if Keenan can't get the Flames past Chicago, his time in Calgary will be over. It will be the Sutter brother show next season.
Vancouver, with 23 wins in their final 32 games, is the hottest team in the entire league in the last two months. Based on that, I'm calling for them and San Jose in the west final, but really, there are so many hot teams going into the playoffs, who knows?
St. Louis was in last place in the West with 30 games remaining. Nice to see the Blues get to the post-season for the first time in six years... and without Paul Kariya for most of the season. Very impressive. But I can't see them getting past the Sharks or Detroit.
I don't trust Detroit’s goaltending, but all the Red Wings do is win hockey games, even with bad goaltending. Osgood has proven to be a money goaltender in the past, so you can't discount them

Bandwagon? Playoff hockey is always a whole new ball game....what I wish for is a good/fair game. Yikes!! That means unbiased refs....well then that is a whole different story....ahem...otherwise....but then again....I am just a second year newbie in all this....been a Flames fan longer but know more with stats etc. Grats Knuckleheads for now.

The bandwagon comment was for the post above yours, areelady.

As for blaming the refs, there's no one out there who thinks the refs actually favour them, so the playing field is completely level in that regard.
Maybe the Flames take a few more penalties than anyone else because they are a little bit dirtier than anyone else. That's always a possibility.

ALMOST as bad as the lickin' Calgary was dealt by the same team the night before. And WE were flying a new goalie too, but for BOTH GAMES. OH!, and BTW, injuries schminjuries, all part of the game. (look at the Oilers last year if ya wanna see INJURIES and that still didn't quiet Flamers)

I heard you puting your oilers down all year.

You never heard me stop cheering for them. All you ever read from me is reality. I said all along that the Oilers simply are not an overly talented team, but that I will cheer for them anyway and be happy with what they give me because I don't expect anything more. I expected them to be in a dog fight with five other teams for the final two playoff spots and that's what happened. That's not putting them down. That's just accepting the mediocrity that Kevin Lowe has supplied the city of Edmonton. You were planning the parade route three weeks ago. Now you're saying they're done. If they happen to win the first round, you'll say they're great again. THAT'S classic bandwagon stuff.

Oh... and congrats on your Flames for beating the Oilers when the game meant nothing to either team... too bad they couldn't do it when it meant home-ice advantage in the playoffs though

I wonder if The Boss will allow the Calgary Flames to use "Downbound Train" as their official playoff theme song.

The new mini season opens on Thursday!!

All the Flames have to do is take a page from Saturday's game, play the first time winning goalie, keep Kippur dressed and relaxed, and have the rest of the team think they are playing the 2nd game of a home and home against the Oilers !

All sarcasim aside, it will not be an easy feat to beat a team that out scored them in each of regular season games, tho the final standing points are close, Chicago has a goalie that seems to be able to keep the Flames off the score sheet. That will have to change for at least one game in the Windy City.

Maybe the coaching staff should get them tickets for Oprah to help relax them before the practice, I understand she tapes at 8:00 in the morning, so they could cook her breakfast for the show!!

As a die-hard Oiler fan now cheering on the Canucks, this will be a lot of fun to watch.
I don't believe the Flames will be able to keep up with a younger Hawk team. The buzz in Chicago will lift these kids over the top in this series. Now after that, we'll need to wait and see. If I'm right, Keenan should have the guys physically taking it to the young Hawks and unless Chi town takes it in 6 or less and get some rest, the Hawks might not have enough left to get them through to round three.

Do I hear a "FLAME OUT" heading toward's Cowtown !!!!!

LOL I was gonna come a-ribbin' too. Oilers are the ones on the golfcourses already yet ya can almost hear a pin drop on the Flames' thread.

Huge game tonight neighbors as the home ice thing usually means even more in the playoffs than in the regular season. Yas are one of only two and a half chances (Habs only kinda count ) of bringing the cup home to the country it belongs in.

*ting*..... I KNOW I heard a pin that time.

Dang nice try. Flames looked pretty dominant and the Hawks looked rattled for the first half of the game. Oh well.

12 seconds is all it took!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For most of the initial 60 minutes the Flames played a perfect road game, then while using the latrine, Chicago did what they have done all year......beat the Flames.

The Flames continued to have a weak powerplay, and if they can't fix that then they may as well hang up their skates with Cammelari, he is sure to a game for that blow to the head!!

First OT game of the playoffs, but if you don't win it's almost forgotten within days.

Saturday night these teams should give us an entertaining game!!
