| can non-pot smokers handle pot smokers? Posted: 8/20/2009 9:05:39 AM | Just my .02....
I don't date anyone who does anything of any kind except alchohol and cigarettes (in moderation).
I just think that certain things look lower classed and unattractive. Plus, I like geeky, upperclassed women.
A girl I dated about 6 months ago who was totally bonkers lit up in front of me. It was an instant and total turn off for me.
So.... it's just not my thing. I don't do it, and I don't respect it. I like responsible people, and while I know responsible people who smoke up, in my mind once a woman tells me she is into the Mary Jane, I just lose interest.
Sorry dooby friends out there.

| can non-pot smokers handle pot smokers? Posted: 8/20/2009 10:18:29 AM | | Hm, I can only speak for my current boyfriend. It used to bother me a lot, then he stopped for a few years, now he's started back with maybe a joint every day after work and as an analgesic when he exercises on the weekend. At this point, I don't care what he does, as long as there's no smoke in the apartment - I just wish he wouldn't get so chatty! | |

| can non-pot smokers handle pot smokers? Posted: 8/20/2009 4:00:51 PM | wow this thread has been going on for almost 4 years...lol,
Nothing wrong with the occasional doobie. It's completely normal to feel happy and awesome when you are smoking weed. I think you need serious help, on the other hand, if you are sad and depressed without it. It should not be the centerpiece of you life, unless your life is growing it. If you have been using it for a while, you know what to expect, and that's why I love it. If you can share the love with your partner without them getting all giddy and stupid, all the better. For me, it enhances experiences. Driving really far? Seems to go by quicker stoned. Flying somewhere? Same. Concert or Comedy club? F()ck yea. And of course after a long day of work. Makes you not care about all the sh1t that gets you aggravated during the day, ready to start anew.
Seriously, what are the harmful effects of too much alcohol? Let's see, liver damage, PHYSICAL DEPENDENCE, brain damage, inability to walk/talk/sex, DT's (delirium tremors) from withdrawal, and of course alcoholic coma and DEATH. Smoke too much weed, what happens? You pass out for the next few hours and wake up feeling totally fine, maybe a little tired, give it a day and it's out of your system (not really, but it won't affect you at all afterward). Side effects? As Kat Williams once said, "Happy, Hungry, Sleepy". Overdose? You would have to smoke a joint as thick as a telephone pole from Boston to London in 15 minutes to die from THC. Get a grip people. Mad made alcohol. Weed exists in nature, without any kind of process involved. It's been a part of humanity for thousands of years. George Washington gave incentives to farmers to grow the sh1t! After they stopped printing money on Buckskin (that's where the term Bucks comes from, as in money) when this country started, hemp paper was the logical choice because it was cheap and readily available, and stronger than cellulose from trees, and doesn't take 30 years to grow. The sooner people realize that propaganda and fear has robbed this country of a very valuable resource, the better off we'll all be. The only problem with Marijuana is that it's still a Schedule 1 drug, just like Cocaine, Heroin, Crack, Opium and Meth.
thats my $0.02 | |

| can non-pot smokers handle pot smokers? Posted: 8/20/2009 4:34:07 PM | My personal opinion on this is that it depends on the people.
I wouldn't pass up Jessica Alba just cause she might occasionally hit the bong. I just prefer that people keep it away from me and my property. I hate to be a buzzkill, but my lease specifically states that I can be evicted for illegal drug use/sale in my apartment. You'd be amazed how many people will dime you out for stupid shit. People have complained about me parking my ranger in the compact car only spots where literally not even a smart car can park without extending over the sidewalk.
Anyways, It's not the marijuana itself that gets under my skin, although I HATE that smell. It's difficult to find functional stoners. Most won't hold a job for anything much less a GOOD job. They tend to be messy, disorganized, lazy, etc. Plus I can't stand stoner humor movies like half baked, how high, and others. Plus, one of my stoner exs stole money from me to get her weed.
However, I have also had stoner girlfriends that were really good to me. I think back to highschool when I had a mexican girlfriend that occasionally blazed but she was the biggest sweetheart. The girl took care of me. When I came down with bronchitis she ditched 3 days of school to cook enough food to feed a small army. She stayed there by my side after school every day for about a month until I got better, and to this day I appreciate what she did and the fact she practically became part of the family.
It's a mixed bag, it really is. Plus, the stereotypes don't help stoners' case. Plus there are a few people that DO validate those stereotypes. I'm fairly neutral, but lean towards not being 420 friendly.

| can non-pot smokers handle pot smokers? Posted: 8/20/2009 5:52:14 PM | As a pot smoker, I look down on those that look down on pot for a very important reason: It shows their beliefs are governed by group think rather than their own integrity.
I'm not a big fan of people who think that something's virtue is tied up in whether it is legal or not. To think that because something has been made illegal, that that makes it bad is faulty reasoning. Governments have always perverted the natural law and used excuses like protecting you from yourself as an excuse to plunder the public. If you can't figure out that that is the reason for pot being illegal, you're just too stupid from all that alcohol you think is OK because big papa law said so. Grow up already!

OMG! It is always so blatantly obvious when I read a post from someone too young to really have anything at risk for breaking the law!
First, let me be completely upfront and agree that should the day ever arrive when the isssue of whether or not to legalize pot is on the ballot in Oregon, I will be leading the stampede to the ballot box to vote "yeah" for the legalization of pot!
That believe has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not I think that pot if 'good' or 'bad,' but rather that as long as something is illegal, it is beyond the control of regulations which keep it safe and provide for reasonable regulation and control. Prohibition proved that making something illegal only allowed criminals to control the distribution of a commodity rather than legitimate businessmen. If marijuana was legalized, it would be possible to purchase a product from a legitimate businessman (rather than a criminal on a street corner). The product purchased would be produced under controlled conditions and there would be no question what the product was 'cut' with (unlike purchasing from street corner dealers who may cut your pot with anything from oregano to crack cochaine); and finally the sale of marijuana through legal state controlled sources would provide an income from tax revenue which could be used for drug treatment programs from those individuals who move from the use of marijuana to other more lethal drugs! (And before all of you 420 friendly folks come unglued - I don't blame marijuana for addiction to meth, crack, heroin, and other drugs. However, I would be willing to bet that the same dealer who sells the pot on the corner of 5th and Burnside could also hook you up with a hit of any of the above if requested!)
The bottom line is this - as long as you are participating in any activity that is against the law, you are choosing the associated risks. Those risks include loss of income, loss of custody of your children, loss of freedom, and loss of life!! Whether you accept that reality is your decision!!!!!
|
| can non-pot smokers handle pot smokers? Posted: 8/20/2009 7:52:57 PM | ^^^^to add to that, people should know more about the unintended consequences of prohibition.
A common tactic is for corrupt police to link up with a gang or other outlaw group to get information for drug busts, then sell the drugs themselves and split the profit with the gang!!
A cocaine ring of this nature was recently uncovered in Toronto where the police teamed up with a local biker gang and monopolized cocaine sales by busting the competition. People need to learn you can't stop capitalism by making something illegal, you just increase the profit motive.

Or thinks the law is wrong or is it just poor people that smoke pot?
"First, let me be completely upfront and agree that should the day ever arrive when the isssue of whether or not to legalize pot is on the ballot in Oregon, I will be leading the stampede to the ballot box to vote "yeah" for the legalization of pot!"
Unfortunately you will never get that chance since governments prefer that their citizens live in fear and since you didn't elect Hitler or Saddam Hussein, western methods have to be used. Besides, many countries would like to legalize drugs but can't because of treaties signed with you geniuses south of the border.

Plus being sober and listening to their random train of thoughts has to be the best way to spend the afternoon.

| can non-pot smokers handle pot smokers? Posted: 8/23/2009 10:46:32 AM | "while we're legalizing marijuana why don't we just legalize all mind altering drugs and flush America down the toilet faster?"
Tom bimbo would have been a more appropriate nic. So why is it you think that? I can only guess that you think everyone is going to turn into a meth zombie or something. So let's go over some facts....You can go to cato.org to find this.
1.While other states in the European Union have developed various forms of de facto decriminalization — whereby substances perceived to be less serious (such as cannabis) rarely lead to criminal prosecution — Portugal remains the only EU member state with a law explicitly declaring drugs to be "decriminalized." Because more than seven years have now elapsed since enactment of Portugal's decriminalization system, there are ample data enabling its effects to be assessed.
So as you can see it's has been done already several years ago so they have some results from their study of what happened.
2.Except for some far-right politicians, very few domestic political factions are agitating for a repeal of the 2001 law. And while there is a widespread perception that bureaucratic changes need to be made to Portugal's decriminalization framework to make it more efficient and effective, there is no real debate about whether drugs should once again be criminalized. More significantly, none of the nightmare scenarios touted by preenactment decriminalization opponents — from rampant increases in drug usage among the young to the transformation of Lisbon into a haven for "drug tourists" — has occurred.
You wouldn't happen to be on the far right are you? Guess the first thing they noticed was that your statement is pretty stupid and ignorant. So what did happen?
3.The political consensus in favor of decriminalization is unsurprising in light of the relevant empirical data. Those data indicate that decriminalization has had no adverse effect on drug usage rates in Portugal, which, in numerous categories, are now among the lowest in the EU, particularly when compared with states with stringent criminalization regimes. Although postdecriminalization usage rates have remained roughly the same or even decreased slightly when compared with other EU states, drug-related pathologies — such as sexually transmitted diseases and deaths due to drug usage — have decreased dramatically. Drug policy experts attribute those positive trends to the enhanced ability of the Portuguese government to offer treatment programs to its citizens — enhancements made possible, for numerous reasons, by decriminalization.
Please make note how I emphasized the "particularly when compared with states with stringent criminalization regimes" since the US is the worst one of them all. And what do you get for the gazillion of dollars you spend on stuffing privately owned prisons with non violent drugs users? The US has 10 times (per capita) the hard drug users (cocaine, meth, heroin...etc) then the next highest country. Yes, 10 times! Her's some more facts for you from:http://www.drug-rehabs.org/drug-statistics.php Cocaine: -1out of 4 Americans between the age of 26 and 34 have used cocaine in their lifetime. -According to the Minnesota Institute for Public Health and drug prevention resource center, 5,000 adults in the United States try cocaine for the first time each day. (1985) -The annual number of new cocaine users has generally increased over time. In 1975 there were 30,000 new users. The number increased from 300,000 in 1986 to 361,000 in 2000. -In 1988, about 300,000 infants were born addicted to cocaine.
Marijuana: _According to the UN's estimate, 141 million people around the world use marijuana. This represents about 2.5 percent of the world population. -600,000 Canadians have a criminal record for simple possession of marijuana -65% of people arrested for marijuana related crimes are for simple possession.
Heroin: -According to Drug Abuse Warning Network, or DAWN, heroin and morphine accounted for 51% of drug deaths ruled accidental or unexpected in 1999. -Heroin is a highly addictive drug, and its use is a serious problem in America. Current estimates suggest that nearly 600,000 people need treatment for heroin addiction. -The number of ED visits involving heroin/morphine increased 15 percent, from 84,409 to 97,287 -In 2000, as part of DAWN's year-end emergency data report, heroin related emergency room visits increased 15% from the last year. -According to the University of Michigan.s Monitoring the Future Study in 2002, 1.6% of 8th graders, 1.8% of 10th graders, and 1.7% of 12th graders surveyed reported using heroin at least once during their lifetime. That study also showed that 0.9% of 8th graders, 1.1% of 10th graders, and 1% of 12th graders reported using heroin in the past year -The heroin addict spends between $150 to $200 per day to maintain a heroin addiction.
I could go on but I'm sure ignorant morons like you think things are just great the way they are since you're not affected. BTW you might think twice about handling your money since 90% of US currency has traces of cocaine on it. You wouldn't want to get addicted paying for your snobery everyday!

Good grief the moronic statements put out by non users. Let's see who those doped out addle brained zombies are who use or used marijuana:
- Abraham Lincoln Loved Smoking 'Sweet Hemp' (Friends (L)/Abraham Lincoln)
13 Feb 2009 - President Obama’s political roll model, Abraham Lincoln smoked weed too. Historical documentation leaves little doubt that the 16th president of the United States was a proud pot head who praised smoking cannabis to unwind and have fun.
The legendary US leader, who was honored by Obama during his presidential inauguration, loved to play harmonica. Hohner Harmonica Company in Germany learned of this, and had sent a couple of them to Lincoln as gifts. In the thank-you note from 1855 to the harmonica builder the US president not only expresses his fondness of the instruments, but surprisingly also of (what we now know as) marijuana. Lincoln writes: "Two of my favorite things are sitting on my front porch smoking a pipe of sweet hemp, and playing my Hohner harmonica."
-Al Gore´s Marijuana Use Exposed (Friends (G)/Al Gore) Questions about Al Gore's use of marijuana first arose in Gore's campaign for Congress in 1976, but only in an off-the-record conversation with a reporter from the Nashville Tennessean. Not until his presidential run in 1988 did the matter force significant public comment from Gore.
At a 1988 press conference, Gore admitted to experimenting with cannabis a few times during his Vietnam years and immediately afterward. But this, he argued, needed to be understood in the context of a great "period of change" in the nation, as well as in himself. "Like many others in my generation," he said, "my life reflects the times." The matter seemed to be over before it started.
-US Presidents Using Cannabis (Friends (U/V)/U.S. Presidents) Eleven United States Presidents who grew and/or used cannabis (hemp and marijuana).
George Washington
John Adams
Thomas Jefferson
James Madison
James Monroe
Andrew Jackson
Zachary Taylor
Franklin Pierce
Abraham Lincoln
John F. Kennedy
Barack Obama -Brad Pitt, David Letterman,Bruce Willis,Calvin Klein,Hunter S.Thomson ,Queen Victoria,Anjelica Huston
Yep just a list of a bunch of fycked up people many of whom you chose to run your country....at least now we know whwere you're coming from...

| can non-pot smokers handle pot smokers? Posted: 8/23/2009 2:45:29 PM | | Plenty: You're obviously a user of a lot of drugs since you seem so angry and defensive about it. Paragraphs upon paragraphs trying to rationalize why drugs are so great. Why? That's just sad. Bottom line is no drugs legal or otherwise do anyone any good and only cause harm. That's just the facts. Who cares which ones are legal or what famous people used them? It doesn't make it right. Politicians are a really poor example to use for upstanding, honest and legal behavior so that's just funny. Even so, there's no way to prove these historic figures used anything unless you were there anyway. "Hey, Michael Vic is famous and he beats dogs. I think I'll go kill a dog now since popular people do it". What idiotic reasoning. | |
|
| can non-pot smokers handle pot smokers? Posted: 8/23/2009 2:52:13 PM | I don't see anything wrong with smoking once in a while. However, when someone kills their GF in an auto crash because they were high? And then continues to smoke day in, day out just like before? Well.
Each case is different. I can handle someone who does it once in a while, but if it's constant? Nah, not so much. Unless used for medicinal reasons (and many folks abuse this because I've been in this situation and managed to avoid it, despite being given it - people are so weak), why do you need to smoke every day?
Much like alcohol, pot has been a social thing for me. I don't drink alone that much (wine once in a blue moon) so why would I be sitting around smoking?
|
| can non-pot smokers handle pot smokers? Posted: 8/23/2009 3:09:28 PM | People who think pot is bad need to just STFU. It's not even a "drug", it's a plant.
I have a right to put whatever the hell I like in my own body whether it be pot, crack, heroine, or anything. Don't you idiot pot opponents realize that there are tons of things that can kill you if you use them, but the government doesn't worry about them? Do you really think that laws are created for your protection? Grow up!
Most of you are taking REAL DRUGS - the ones your "doctor" gives you. Those have more harmful side effects than pot and most of them will make you brain dead zombie. That is, a brain dead zombie that believes any lame government propaganda fed to them on TV. See, its the pot smokers who actually see with their eyes open. The non-users are still stuck in collectivist programming mode.
You're obviously a user of a lot of drugs since you seem so angry and defensive about it. Paragraphs upon paragraphs trying to rationalize why drugs are so great. Why?
Because, like a lot of us, he's tired of being persecuted and denigrated by lesser human beings that can't think for themselves.

lol, I have a cartoon from Mad magazine about that. The guy looks completely zombified and the caption reads "You can't beat the system, because....most innoculations discovered by medical science to protect you against deadly disease have side effects that kill you even faster".
That said, anything in excess is not good and that goes for pot, whether it's a plant or not.
As someone who has experienced extreme nausea and a few other symptoms in the past, pot can really be helpful for both nausea and your appetite. I just couldn't bring myself to sit around stoned all day. But had the nausea and other symptoms lasted longer or been worse? Perhaps.
In looking at the possible medicinal benefits in some regards, I can't see pot being any more harmful than something prescribed.
Alcohol can be just as damaging and other than some twit getting into his car and driving while high, I've yet to see someone be violent on pot.
I have seen pot be damaging for certain people when it interferes with everyday function - people sitting around and letting themselves go or their responsibilities and that is when I would be against it.

Smoking damages the lungs ~ that includes weed. As in all things unhealthy for your body ~ they should be done in moderation. As for the question if non-smokers can handle smokers ~ it depends on the couple and what they expect from each other ~ and if the non-smoker is willing to take any financial risks that may be involved due to it being illegal. With any luck the current economic meltdown will open the door to the government legalizing this ~ freeing up the courts for the real criminals.

I put pot in the same category as alcoholic drinks. It's fine for social, fun use, as long as you don't let it take over your life. If it gets to the point where you need it to function, you have an addiction.
|
| can non-pot smokers handle pot smokers? Posted: 8/23/2009 6:37:43 PM | I've started chatting with someone who has no issue with being up front about the fact that he smokes. My personal opinion is as long as its not a daily thing then I think I'm ok with it. The more I get to know him the better I will be able to tell how big a part pot plays in his life.
Its not a dealer breaker right off the bat, but it can become one.

| can non-pot smokers handle pot smokers? Posted: 8/23/2009 7:03:46 PM | | tbuddha: Your statement makes no sense. You think people should understand why drugs are so great but don't see the down side to drugs and see the lives that it's ruined. You must be in denial. Legal or not ALL drugs are bad for the body. I totally get the whole point about medication. The evil and corruption that turns a blind eye to the horrible deaths of men, women and children is maddening and despicable. More people are killed by taking the proper dosages of medications every year than die from cancer and heart desease combined. Not to mention some of the permanent side effects they lie about. This doesn't make any other substances less damaging. I agree that it's ridiculous that pot is illegal when alcohol and a lot of prescription medications aren't but it can be damaging as well. | |

| can non-pot smokers handle pot smokers? Posted: 8/23/2009 9:38:49 PM | I can't stand the stuff. I don't want it around me. And long-term, I have my son to think about. Just hell no.
I tried to date this girl this summer. Easily a 9.5 on the 10 pt scale. And all she did was smoke. She probably would have smoked the carpet if she could find a blunt wrapper big enough. I could only see past it for about 10 days.
She was really nice, and had a bright personality. But all the traffic in and out of her place, all the hippie-lettuce burning, and a totally incompatible lifestyle ended it REAL quickly.
edit: The real question is how many of you burnouts checked the "yes" box on the drug use question on here? If pot was so great, whats the big deal, AMIRITE??
... *crickets*.....
That's what I thought. | |
