If a man specifically does not want to get to know a woman for friendship purposes because of her weight, then yes, he is shallow. Physical attraction is not a requirement for friendship.
If he does not find himself attracted to a larger women and chooses not to date them because of that fact, then no, he is not shallow. He is human with preferences. The same is true for women who choose not to date short men -- yes, even short women (like myself -- I'm 5'3") are allowed to have preferences for a much taller mate. I've been attracted to very tall men since I was four years old. It's not a choice.
However, any adult that pokes fun at another in a hurtful, derogatory way is absolutely pathetic and needs to be shot. | |

Posted: 11/17/2006 5:54:30 PM | Personally, i'm sick of everyone acting as looks are'nt important to them and this is coming from a bbw..I appreciate a great looking man just as men appreciate a beautiful healthy woman. My personal experience on here has been pretty good far as men talking to me and knowing i'm a bbw.May i add some really attractive and fit men. Read my profile and you will see that this bbw has decided to become a healthy beautiful woman. Don't get me wrong because i base my decision to date someone on more than looks. If you look great but are a jerk you will never hear from me again...i'm a bbw, not desperate. To answer the original post, yes there are men on here that like bbw. I also like to say bbw, stop putting average on your profile or a few extra pounds because in the end you will get your feelings hurt. Be honest and if someone is not attracted to you because of it then it saves you and them a lot of time and hurt or angry feelings in the end. Above all else though, everyone love yourself regardless of your weight and try to keep an open mind and heart. If you are happy with your body great, if not change it and stop getting mad because some man or woman may not prefer bigger people. Fat people not just women, get treated differently than "skinny" or "athletic" people. Look at all the advertisements other than Dove do you see any average or “fat” people? No, because that’s not what society has been conditioned to find attractive in this day and age. Go back a few hundred years and the conception of beauty was completely different, larger women were beautiful. With that being said, I have my profile on another dating website. It just so happens on that website, if you EVEN click on a person's profile, they get sent a message that you're interested in them. I did not know this. Well, I clicked on this one guy's profile, and after reading his conceitful, Barbie doll preferences, I immediately clicked out. So he gets a message thinking I'm interested and I get this message back from him...
"Can you even read at age 53????? Don't even bother contacting me again until another lifetime when you are 25 and thin. Have a nice life!"
How shallow and crude was that? Yep, I wrote him back and told him what I thought and that he didn't have to worry about even having another lifetime because we all know where he's going after this one!!! He's never married, 48 yrs old and wants a 25-yo Barbie doll. I wished him good luck! | |

I don't think there's anything wrong with what you don't find attractive. We all have different preferences as to what we find and don't find attractive. We are simply created to have different tastes. Nothing wrong with it.
I don't believe you are being shallow because you don't find BBW attractive. I have some BBW girlfriends who are not attracted to "big guys" and I bet there are a lot of BBW (some whom may have posted in this thread even) that may feel the same way as my girlfriends and yet they expect an athletic man to be accepting of them and will retaliate calling them shallow when they are honest about their attraction.
Some like them big and some don't, plain and simple. There is no need to jump on the OP when he was just stating what he likes and doesn't like. You can't hang a man just because he prefers chocolate ice cream over strawberry. | |

I'm not super-size, but "petite" for that site.. so I don't get many contacts. Most of the men on that site like their women 300+ pounds..

Some people are genetically programmed to be large-both male and female. Some people are genetically programmed to be large-both male and female.
True, some people are certainly more prone to be big because of their genes. Big, not morbidly obese. That's not natural. Look at pictures of people 50 or 60 years ago, and you simply didn't see all that many 300 pounds or more people. The whole "it's my genes" thing has mainly become an excuse just like "it's my thyroid so there's nothing I can do about it" or "I took some crazy medicine ten years ago so there's nothing I can do about it."
People can be beautiful at any size, but the rampant obesity that is sweeping the world is mainly due to people who eat too much, don't move enough, and refuse to open their eyes and realize they don't have to be that way. I said that I was genetically destined to be a big girl for years, and then one day I realized that was silly and that I could change if I wanted to. Seven months later I was wearing size 4 pants. | |
