| q for the guys--Tattoos on women--yes or no? Posted: 4/14/2007 10:13:30 AM | After observing women (and guys) with tatoos the last couple of weeks since this topic came up, I see a lot of people on this thread saying that they get a tatoo of something that means something to them. I can understand and appreciate that, but there are a heck of a lot of people out there with tatoos that can't have too much depth or meaning to them. A girl that works with me has a big Betty Boop on the inside of her arm and another one with a bit dragon. Now I like dragons as much as the next person, but what would be the the significant life meaning of putting a dragon on your arm other than the fact that you like dragons? Just curious as to what people consider as something meaningful enough to them that they want to put it permanently on their body.
Again, I have no trouble with someone who wants to put a tatoo on themselves. Just wanting to know, as it would appear many are not motivated by having something that "life significant" tattooed on them.

Posted: 4/14/2007 3:10:37 PM | | Hi there...This response in intended for message 117, by A.O.G... totally agree tatoos are a personal choice...two of my three adult children have them...In my profile, I state that I do not find them attractive...MEANING if they cover your body entirely...I even state one of Mom is ok...Just my opinion, I certainly do not think down of anyone who has them...PLEASE do not think it shallow of people for having a preferance...DONT put it even near the colour of ones skin...What an insult to anyone with any moral decency...You blocked me from having contact with you because somehow I was abrupt and stopped chatting...No I didnt, my pc is not perfect nor am I on figuring out how this site works...My appologies again...I could go on and state why some people have an aversion to tatoos but I wont...I guess you are the guy who dates everyone regardless of size, shape, fitness level, hygeine, alcohol addiction...These are qualities that are also preferances...some are deal breakers others are not depending on the individual...There is someone for everyone here but be HONEST we all know what makes our heart skip a beat (or are trying to figure it out)...As for your tatoo, it is amazing !!! never forget, how touching...Lets try not to go judging everyone for an honest opinion...I cant walk on water...a motto on my office wall...Cheers to all of you who place beautiful art on your body...LLL

| q for the guys--Tattoos on women--yes or no? Posted: 4/14/2007 6:42:21 PM | Most people I know with tats describe them as "addictive." I needed one that was unique and I am stopping with that one. If I live to be seventy, at least I chose my ankle, so it is less likely to sag, I guess. When I was dining in NYC a few years ago, there was a young woman on a date with an exquisite butterfly on her right shoulder blade. It was really, really pretty. I asked their server to convey my compliment. She turned around and acknowledged. This was one of those no ulterior motive, sincere compliment interactions. I usually do not withold compliments, and it clearly made her feel good. Most people do not stop at one though, and I do not find the tattoo covered body to be attractive. At least, tattoo shops pretty much require you to be sober, to make sure that you really know what you are doing when you walk in there, lest one has buyer's remorse the next day. | |

| q for the guys--Tattoos on women--yes or no? Posted: 4/14/2007 11:42:20 PM | I don't know about that. Many people I know say they have gotten theirs when they were out partying and I know the few tatoo shops in the large town I use to live in were busiest late night. I am sure there are responsible ones and ones that are not as responsible. In a recent interview, Cincinnati Reds player Josh Hamilton revealed that he became obsessed with getting tatoos and was introduced to drugs through the tatto shops. By all means, I am not saying that many or all tattoo shops are like that, but one can't assume they all are "clean" and responsible either.
I just got back from the lake and we saw a 30ish year old guy with a Scooby Doo tattoo on the side of his calf. Needless to say, I am still curious as to my question in the other post.

Personal opinion on women I could go either way it really doesn't matter to me I know it turns some people off. I know some women find me unattractive because of my tattoos and alot of people did when I had all my facial peircings so it is all just personal preference.

On me I have a large memorial tattoo on my left arm for my father and I had it done on my left arm because my father will always be in my heart. I have freedom tattooed in red white and blue covering my entire stomach and that is because I believe everyone should be entitled freedom and not nessiceraly as i see but they should be allowed it. The one on my right arm was actually drawn by my old tattooist who is buddhist. I had been wanting a sleeve done on my arm for awhile and I told him I wanted it to have meaning because I already had a large ying yang symbol tattooed on my arm there to show the balance of good and evil. Well he took the tattoo and on the fron of my arm is a samuri fighting a dragon as he sadi representing all the battles I have been through in my life (I've had a messed up life to say the least), on the inside of my arm there is a buddhist gargoyle to ward of evil and on the back of my arm it has the huge chinese symbol for warrior because he stated after talking with me for me to still be alive and gone through what I have I must be a warrior. Those of you who don't know what a sleeve tattoo is look at my profile it is not fully finished and I am making it a full sleeve, but you will see it isn't just a bunch of small tattooes a sleeve is a gaint canvas tattoo, as for the one on my back well that was one of those dumb love things my ex and I got and I am in the process of getting it changed into a celtic cross for the other memorial tattoos I am getting done and to match the back mural I want to get done. From being in the body art world and owning a body art business for a long time and being covered with tattoos. Don't get a tattoo unless it has meaning behind it such as someone else stated a girl got Betty Boop. I think people who get tattoos of stupid stuff such as cartoon characters are dumb because they are with you the rest of your life and that if you are going to have something done to you that will be with you the rest of your life make sure it has meaning and reason not just because you like a cartoon character.

| q for the guys--Tattoos on women--yes or no? Posted: 4/15/2007 1:27:28 AM | I think tattoos are great, AS LONG AS there's a meaning behind it, not just for the hell of it. I have one, on my arm..the crown of thorns, to signify suffering, ever since that whole side of my body was paralyzed.
I'm not paralyzed anymore, but I am far from where I should be. Posting this has probably ruined any chance of any interest in me, but you know what.....I'm past caring !
Good luck to all !! | |

| q for the guys--Tattoos on women--yes or no? Posted: 4/15/2007 1:32:49 AM | i have tatoos so would be hypocritical for me to say they look bad on women,i think depends on where they were mine are all above short sleeve shirt so if i want to dress up or casuali can have em covered if i want to show em i can wear tanktop/singlet,i dont like the gig of tatoos on faces, fore arms,or hands.and if they are done well on a lady or anyone ,id be happy to accept that persons right to have them, and wouldnt descrimante against them as long as they were happy with them. ps , and personnally i dont hate having them on me,but got them done long time ago,and if had chance would remove or not had them done, but i would prob get one with my sons name in it which i still will do one day regards mick | |

| q for the guys--Tattoos on women--yes or no? Posted: 4/15/2007 7:17:32 AM | | Nicknjimmy, I want to thank you for sharing the significance behind your tatoos. That is what I was looking for and why I asked. I wasn't asking for any other reason than to understand and I appreciate your explaining (not that you have to explain it to anyone). I think many people that don't have tatoos have a difficult time understanding the motivation of why someone would permanently put something on their body . It is evident that some have significance reason behind theirs and others have none, they just do it on a whim to do it; i.e. scooby doo, betty boop, etc. Like anything in life, it is a "to each their own" world and I know a lot of people with tatoos and have dated women with some tatoos, one was a serious relationship. We live in a very visual world and many people are critical of how others can appear and it is unfortunate we don't give people a chance and judge them from a first glance. | |

| q for the guys--Tattoos on women--yes or no? Posted: 4/15/2007 9:54:45 AM | | In reply to 163. I like explaining to people why I have the tattoos I do, the reasons I have them, and what they mean. When you tell be the story behind your tattoos and what they stand for when you have ones such as mine the people seem to chill out and get past the normal persona of a person with multiple large tattooes, and when you explain the meaning behind your tattooes to people who are skeptical about them they want to have more of a conversation with you and it also loosens them up on the thought that all people with tattooes have problems. | |

| q for the guys--Tattoos on women--yes or no? Posted: 4/15/2007 1:03:36 PM | I have 8 tattoos, and every one is hideable under summer clothing, ie shorts, t-shirt, and short socks. This is what I refer to as being "parent-friendly" or "fancy-social occasion-friendly" if the occasion calls for it. In a bikini, you can see every one. Some have special meaning and some are just beautiful designs in places where I wanted a tattoo to be. I usually put a couple of years of thought into what I want and where I want it before I actually get it, and if I'm the most decorated 90-year-old in the nursing home someday, so be it. I have met guys who are up front about their opinion of women with tattoos, and that's fine. I actually dated someone who told me MONTHS down the road that he couldn't stand them and I wasn't his type! To say that burned my butt is an understatement....I mean MONTHS!!! What a jacka**! I am good friends with someone who just HATES them, and that's because he knows they have nothing to do with my personality, that we'd have the same conversations with each other whether I had them or not. | |

| q for the guys--Tattoos on women--yes or no? Posted: 4/19/2007 6:29:36 PM | I am a professional & quite heavily tattooed. If you don't find me attractive that's quite alright. It's your opinion, now, a judgment is where I can get a bit defensive. I'll be honest, most of my tattoos have meaning but a few of them are for the art itself. I am a landscape designer and a lot of my work is leaves of trees I admire for horticultural and botanical reasons.
I've been told by many that my tatoos dissapear once you get to know me. In my pic that I posted for voting I used one showing my tat's (as an experiment) and so far it's the women that don't like them! Especially women 18-25...interesting, I wonder why? Which is fine because I'm here for the men. The highest rating age group for men is 33-40.
It's a choice that I have commited to and that's the bottom line. It's only flesh. It's rather temporary. As the old saying goes it's the inner beauty that counts. I still look dynamite in an evening gown though and my Nanny still loves me.

| q for the guys--Tattoos on women--yes or no? Posted: 4/20/2007 8:42:58 AM | I have 9 tattoo's...going to get my 10th this weekend. And Welder is getting his first one this weekend as well (yes, I'm already corrupting his mind. lol).
I am starting on a full back piece this summer and will start on sleeves when my back is done. My leg is almost complete and it looks awesome. Pretty much...by the time I am 30 the majority of my body will be covered in ink...except my face and my front torso area. My back and arms will be covered. My legs will be mostly covered.
Some folks find it attractive and some don't. To each their own. It's my body, my life, and my choices. If they don't like....tough luck for them.
Each and everyone of my tattoos hold a special meaning to me. MUCH deeper than 'oh I like dragons'...which, btw, I do not have a dragon tattooed on me.
Live and let live I say!

If some guy doesn't like em...oh well that's his loss. If a guy can't see pst the tats and get to know me for me....then I don't want him anyway!!!!!

| Respond to msg 157 Posted: 4/21/2007 8:35:15 AM | Hey nick.... I can honestly say out of the 10 tats that I have only one has real significance...and that is the one on my chest that is a heart with wings and my kids names. The other 9 have no real significance, but they are nice, elegant and I feel tasteful. So in my opinion not all tats need to have significance. Oh yeah, I also have a tweety bird on my calf....I have had more compliments on my tats than negative comments. | |

| q for the guys--Tattoos on women--yes or no? Posted: 4/25/2007 2:17:25 PM | I have approximately 15 tattoos right now. I have one 1/2 sleeve and have started working on my other 1/2 sleeve. All of my tattoos have meaning to me. I didn;t get them on a whim or after some late night partying (mine have mainly been designed by me or the idea came from me). I only have one that is considered "flash art" (the stuff up on the walls in the tattoo shops). That was my very first tattoo and still had meaning. Every other tattoo I have is original, just like me.
I too am a business professional and I have been told my coloourful personality add character to me. I try to hide my tattoos at work (not because I am ashamed, but out of respect for my company), many times they do happen to peek out and everyone wants to check them out. I have actually taken quite a few people from the ocmpany I work for management included to get tattoos.
I think the stereotypes of tattooed people is just wrong, things have changed imensley in the past 50 years. I actually took my mother recently and she got her first tattoo for her 60th birthday and wants more now. She hated mine before, but has been watching Miami Ink and Inked and saw the stories behind the tattoos. Now she loves my tattoos, and understands my love of adding artwork to my human canvas.
I get complimented all the time on my tattoos and I also get stared at. I honestly don't care, each to their own but respect is needed. I do not say negative things about people with tattoos, why do people have to be so negative? If you don't like them, don't look!

Posted: 4/25/2007 2:56:05 PM | well its a free world out there for people to do as they want to certian degree's when a Q is asked to the open internet, people need not worry or beat around the bush as not to offend - a person asked for peoples opinion. I would say you will not receive many emails from guys WITH tats which note (they) don't like tats on women. Same goes for the women responding - women WITH tats will say 'they're cool' etc. You and only you should make that decision hunn - its nice to get peoples opinions but you will have to decide - I personally find women with more than 1 or 2 SMALL tats a turnoff. A small 'heart' type tat or such above the butt area is nice and/or near the front waistline can be hot looking. Here again, a nice body will set the tat off too :) goodluck with your decission :)
