| Will there ever be a McDonalds in Iraq? Posted: 12/29/2004 11:30:49 PM | guitarman~ I really wasn't trying to blast you at all...I think you have good intentions, for the most part. I *seriously was just trying to make a point, albeit sarcastically. I apologize for being sarcastic,- sometimes that's the only way I can think of to try and drive home a point to someone. It's not a real pleasant technique, but sometimes it works. And no, I derive no pleasure from pissing someone off, was just trying to make a valid point, and trying to honestly figure out where this came from/ where you're going with this. It's very idealistic, but for ppl w/ limited resources right now, not economically feasible, etc. I was only trying to make a point to you, not blast you,...and as for the 5 mins (or 5 hrs. for that matter)No hair off my, erm...butt. I'd rather be reading ppls opinions on religion/current events on a forum board sometimes than spending that time out getting drunk, watching mindless sit-coms, or whatever else ppl do to wind down at night (or in their down time). Like I said,...I do as much good as i can with what I've got.To keep insinuating that we're all a bunch of useless, unsympathetic, unenlightened, uncaring bums wasting our time posting on forum boards is a little rude and very presumptuous. Don'tcha think? Most of us, unfortunately, cannot save the world in the positions that we're in.Just do the best we can.(And post on forum boards in the meantime ) Peace, Guitarman | |

thanks bro for sparing me.......... I can sh*t on people as good or better than most if you need examples i can give you links friends
-----------bitter sarcasm------------makes you a hero?
I just became aware of a feeling a person gets after the exileration of really telling someone off goes away..........
It is a feeling of emptiness for spreading negative stuff out there
The inverse feeling occurs when you do good in the world................ yes I know I am such a lame dude for not wanting to swim around in the bitter pool of sarcasm with the rest of you cause we all know that is where it is at...... the highest form of our being ...............bitter sarcasm well you all live there...............that magical place of "one-up menship" such a good way to spend your time on earth bickering like old men too fat and old to actually do something in the world
such a waste of intelect and potential

| Will there ever be a McDonalds in Iraq? Posted: 12/29/2004 11:52:50 PM | Who the F*K said I was a hero? And who the Fek said the sarcasm was bitter? I thought it was quite a gas, myself. You're tripping out or something, man...the only bitterness I see is in your above post. I feel for ya, man...sound kind of depressed. I'm gonna leave this one alone. Peace~ | |

| Will there ever be a McDonalds in Iraq? Posted: 12/29/2004 11:57:19 PM | your a good person man, its just a little funny tho because your message is one of the most idealistic i have read lately, but your using the argument to criticise other peoples projections of that same sort of idealism.
Your point about pleasantries and niceness and a lack of name calling is honorable, you really made an impression on me witth that and i honestly thank you for it. Problem was that you were about two days late getting here with it, things were already chilling out.
you just kinda jumped in way off topic in several threads and kinda killed them. I was working hard there and that kinda sucked a bit. but i am over it.
why don't we just let it go now, and when people get way out of line, go ahead and reign them in a bit if you need to, but i would try to be respectful of what work people are doing at the same time.
there is a big big picture being discusssed here and it is important to alot of us to develop ideas verbaly and communicate with others.
i would like to see you start a thread about the best ways to debate and keep peace at the same time. i am sure that ousu would contribute to that and i bet alot of others have ideas too.
anyway, lets just be friends because we can get alot more done in here together than if we all just fight. | |

| Will there ever be a McDonalds in Iraq? Posted: 12/29/2004 11:57:47 PM | not depressed thanks just trying to make a little difference in the world and I just have little patience for those who would divert me from that path
I hope through my bitterness you felt the negativity see it is not a good thing and we all spread it on here
just wanted people to be aware | |

| Will there ever be a McDonalds in Iraq? Posted: 12/30/2004 9:44:49 AM | Hey Guitarman,
I respect you too, as I'm sure most people on here do. You have a very warm and thoughtful approach.
I've noticed recently though that your perceptions about a few things have altered somewhat. I'm not sure if this is the case but your position on the invasion and occupation of Iraq seems to have changed, as has your tolerance of debate.
I can understand why you might warn a friend about being blunt with people....I can understand your encouragement for people to tone down their lnguage (I have a concern that passionate people with good ideas can be provoked into anger by people who are not very intelligent or cultured leading decent people to be kicked out of here and their posts and threads deleted) but I'm actually quite suprised at you criticisng people for engaging in these debates and especially when you fall into the trap of some of the jingoists by trying to invaliate people for democratic or liberal ideals. It is a bit worrying when someone who himself was being harrassed by the likes of Larry quite recently for being democratically minded is now doing the same to other - albeit in a much gently and more articulate manner.
The undeniable fact is that wars are not inevitabilities but cultural constructions inpired by the discourses of powerful people.
There is a terrible history in Iraq that is more connected with the ways in which European and US governments and corporations have tried to control the peoples of the region than the actions of one dictator )who was definately put their by western govenments and corporations. It would be a shame if you were to be swayed by all the terrible recent killings to stop thinking about the history of the thing and to refelct on the ethics of continuing these sort of invasions in the light of the terrible evils that elites in the US and the UK have and continue to perpetrate.
And as for your suggestion that I could be doing more, you have no idea what I do do. It is the christmas holidays but I am involved in research and clinical work all of the time. Reading and posting on here is a light distraction for me and also very interesting. I ussually post when the kettle is boiling for the tea I need to keep my mind focussed.
Wishing you a wonderful new year. | |

dude what day is your birthday ? we are both saggitarrius both 29 you are almost the same age man within 15 days
AS always well put my friend......... Where is larry by the way ? I think we scared away him and his sidekick the 18 yr old right winger
As for the change of stance I have evolved................. I thought about my position here is the short version
since I was 5 yrs old I realized the middle east was just a f*cking mess I always said someone has to go over there a clean it up..............
Ok someone has really gone over there Yes I do not believe entirely in the means or the reasons........... and Like any difficult surgery it is bloody and messy but some thing tells me in 20 yrs we will look back and things will be better in this region of the world I may be wrong but if we do not cause world war 3 maybe it will be worth it
cause for all of the "capitalist west" theories and I know all of them I wrote some of them too
I looked deep into the heart of humanity and there is pure evil there people sawing heads execution style killings..........dark nightmares evil
It must be extiguished ...........period no buts
stop the posts guys on the u.s.a. (oil blah blah) yes, we got it I know, yes .........ok reflect for a moment on this ..............
I looked deep into the heart of humanity and there is pure evil there people sawing heads execution style killings..........dark nightmares evil
It must be extiguished ...........period no buts
Look at the people of Ukraine and how they have handled themselves in their situation with infinitely more respect for our fellow man..........
"infinitely more respect for our fellow man"..........this my friends is the basis of peace think about it
and dmt You by far are the most articulate you write entire pages /books on here
What if you used that skill to write letter's to goverments, amniesty international ..to free prisoners or to educate people who may contribute to the cause of good because all of you are basically just repeating your positions day after day...........
this is time on planet earth you will never get back ............ever
you can do more while you are alive
"killing time ...........is suicide"
think about it folks

| Will there ever be a McDonalds in Iraq? Posted: 12/31/2004 8:51:37 AM | dmt: I also think we can do alot by continuing to oppose the lying, thieving, murdering president George Bush.
Acting in organizations like Amnesty International are good IN ADDITION to that. Activism is very important and very necessay, but if you're not doing it, it's not good to "shut up". Our ideas are very important. Our judgment and ideals should not be silenced.
Speak up. | |

| Will there ever be a McDonalds in Iraq? Posted: 12/31/2004 12:20:47 PM | "from fast-food to sex in a few dozen exchanges...how lovely" Forgive me,dmt...a sense of *HUMOR* kicked in at 2 a.m.--sorry if that so disturbed you.Wouldn't want to make anyone chuckle, or anything-how awful.
Wishing you a wonder-filled new year-one that may bring to you a sense of humor every once in awhile. Lighten up and gimme a break,guy...this is the net, we didn't actually f*k.You know this, right? It must be a joy being so serious all the time-I can imagine you now:some bespectacled,stern-faced, unhappy, intellectual...horrified by a silly joke. How lovely. Once again, I apologize for upsetting your uptight sensibilities and causing an interruption in this all-important thread. Here...I think you need one of these
. Calm down, lighten up, and smile, Professor dmt...this isn't a congressional manuscript to be submitted-I said something silly and off-topic for 2 posts on a dating site's forum board while waiting for a reply from Guitarman. THE HORROR!! Chill out, or you'll have a stroke at a young age. Dayummm.
Wishing you a happy, joy and laughter- filled New Year! | |

Guitarman. Don't let of these critics pull yopu down. I really like your input because its fresh and original it doesn't come from the right or the left, its as though some unbiased observer were standing viewing the whole picture and relating how things looked to him. Keep it up. And if you have some Eureka moment, like when it hit you that people should be doing. go ahead and ptint it just like you see it, no watering down. I find all your postings fresh, original and interesting. Not long the same old predictable boring leftist Dogma from certain people who I don't even bother reading because I know exactly what they are going to say before I even start reading it.Keep it up man. Don't change a thing and ignore your critics. | |
