Anyone ever met up from here and been dissapointed?
Posted: 3/30/2007 11:51:56 AM
This thread was started 2 years ago!!!! I wonder if any of the originals have found someone from here and got married?

I have been to POF parties, but not met anyone from here one on one.

I joined the day after the thread was started. And nope - not found anybody worth marrying yet!

Actually it wasn't the day after, it was the month before - wh ich is even more depressing

How does this, or any other internet site compare with 'real life' dates though? Are you more or less likely to be disappointed?

Interesting thread even if it was dug up from the dark ages

yes i have met a couple of people from this site and have been very dissapointed,
they are iether not like thier photos, lied about thier age, or their sense of humour is suddenly lost and they have bored the pants off me.
it hasnt put me off tho and will still be meeting /linking up with folk from this site,

about 4 weeks ago I arranged to meet a guy who I'd been e mailing and chatting to on the phone. I went along to our date with a very open mind and wasn't disappointed when I met him.. We had a laugh , a few drinks and a good chat .I'd told him I'd need to be leaving early due to my sitter at home and he seemed ok with that. I left at the time I said I'd be leaving saying I'd definitely be in touch and maybe meet up again sometime. He seemed cool with that. The following day he se mailed saying me something along the lines of ' oh nice one , got to leave early cos of my sitter crap. Heard some excuses but that one takes the piss' I was gobsmacked so e mailed him back saying ' So sorry you don't believe me. You didn't come across as shallow and insecure on our date last night. I wasn't disappointed but am now' ..................think that told him ...........needless to say we didn't get to a second date

Well obviously he was a very insecure individual, faked being a cool guy but in a way he's done you a favour, by showing his true colours. If you had eventually started a relationship with him he may of turned into a bunny boiler. Me, I haven't met anyone because I don't get the opportunity, hardly any mail

When I first joined POF, I think in November, the next day after a put my profile up some woman msg me who was a die hard City fan. We exchanged emails and spoke on the phone for about a week before deciding to go to a City home game. She was meant to get the tickets and I was gonna give her the money on the day. Anyway it sort of fell through but on the day I was watchin the match on Sky at my mates house and she text me saying she was in the executive box at the match. ****.

i met 1 girl through Match .com (last year) and 1 through POF (beginning of this year) thankfully i wasn't disappointed with either and i'm still with the 2nd a few months later.
and too all the girls that could write back thank you. as for those that couldn't, hope you find what your looking for as you'll probably be looking for a long time as the good guys get snapped up fairly quickly.

and my mate met his lady through our fish meet at Christchurch in December, they now live together and are very happy too.

ive met two people so far, one from here and one from another site.

I wouldnt exactly say I was disappointed.. both of the people I met were nice enough but they weren't really for me - so both times we didnt take things any further.

If theres any disappointment its not with the people themselves, but rather that I havent found the right person yet.

have been to quite a few of the meets on this site and have never been disappointed but as it goes for the one on one meet(dates) ive luckily only met a couple of guys that i thought yeah they lovely, spent a good few hours out on a date having what seemed to be a really good laugh and fun times with them only to find they were only interested in getting in my knickers. ...next date im gonna take a spare pair with me so they can get into them till their hearts content. i'll be going to bed alone.

I was less than happy on the dates ive had as no one seems to be honest in their needs and real reasons for making a date with someone like myself.
I have been honest in saying I dont seek casual intimate encounters.
Yet as I have a stocking and heel fetish men seem to think I do want fetish sex with them.
This becomes clear during the meet that they admit their noseyness got the better of them and they had decided to lie about themselves.
Its only during the meal they realise im not flirting or otherwise..I laugh at this as its their loss when they leave...hehehe

I've never been disappointed by anybody I have physically met through this site, I think that is because I probably didn't examine them closely enough at the time but now that I have a new pair of glasses, I imagine I could be disturbed by what I see in the future.

Once I met a guy who smelt a lot like farts - there was a really dreadful smell from him...there's more to the story but I think it's wrong to say anymore than that.

At first i think we invest too much hope in who we meet from the net due to inexperience, want and need.
The feeling of dissapointment that comes with rejection or the lack of mutual attraction makes us either give up quickly or adapt our attitude to dating/meeting a hopefull from messaging.
Meeting as friends only is the best solution and anything more should be seen as a bonus.
When that special someone does show up the feeling is absolutely wonderfull, regardless of how long it lasts for.
The key is not to expect too much!

Confused, It states on your profile Not single/Not Looking , why would you be wanting to go on dates in the first place?
Why pick gender specific male "friends" and specify an age too if its purely friendship you want?

I met a woman from here last week who said she was looking for a man who would repect her.Who said she liked walks along the beach and good conversation.

During a nice walk on the beach she decided to show me a tattoo which happened to be on the upper inside of her thigh which I thought a little forward.Later she pushed me against the sea wall and tried to molest me.Luckily one of my dogs put his nose up her skirt to sniff her bottom and the distraction enabled me to free myself.

Now she wants me to go round her house for a quiet evening and I'm wondering what a bottle of wine and a DVD which all women seem to put on their profiles really means.

Not really disappointed but perhaps a little confused regarding female intentions.

I've only met one person from here and she was great. We dated for a little bit, and are now friends. Nothing bad, just wasn't right.

I've met other people in the past from another dating site and was never disappointed there either. I think the trick is that I don't rush straight off to meet. Always send emails for a week and exchange a few pictures. Speak on the phone for at least once. That way both of you know what the other is like to a certain degree. If you don't like the look/sound of the person then don't meet up.

I've been disappointed after both waiting weeks to meet up and meeting someone very quickly, disappointed perhaps too strong a word but it's how it goes. Nowadays I don't expect to like someone hugely then it's a bonus if I do !!

I did and was very peed off because his photos were clearly 10 years old at least and he barely resembled them now.
He was not my type

He was disappointed.

Well I've been on and off on this site for about 2 years now I think....I'm back but in a relationship as I love the Forums and generally love meeting people in whatever form....Anyhoo.............Yes i've met lots and i've been disappointed..Although at the time I was looking for a 'boyfriend'. However I've also made some fantastic friends through this site, male and female....I suppose it all depends why you are here and your outlook on life really........happy fishing xx

Not met anyone of POF, found a few friends on here though, met a few people of the internet but they are usually only after short term or sex, so i avoid meeting women online now, i am still hopeful there are genuine women out there but fed up of looking through a PC screen so i am sticking to the forums.

Phew - No one I have met has posted. Hang on does that mean I am so insignificant that they don't recall the disappointment.
I have never been 'disappointed' - some people you don't click with, but life would boring if we all gelled with the same type.
One of my best ex - datees has a starring role on my profile - I guess the only 'disappointment' was at the time I could not treat her right, both had to much going on in our lives.
I think its important to meet up sooner rather than later - my msn is clogged up with people probably from here (this is my second time on) that I truly can't remember who they are.

Ive met loads of people from here haha

And yeah Ive been dissapointed on several occasions.

Mainly because they have lied or had old pictures.

I say meet up as soon as possible.

I dont bother with msn, straight from here, to the phone, to in the flesh.

You might like them on here.
You might like the way they chat on msn.
You might like their voice on the phone.
But then you meet them and there is no spark or chemistry.
..Waste of time.
Meet up as soon as possible (in my opinion)
