i signed on for a free membership with eroticy about 4 months ago and then didn't use them but every day since they send me an email telling me that I have received another message from someone else. Of course I have to pay to read them and reply and have no method of checking to see if these people actually even have a profile on the site.

Yes, True does it too. I had 7 day free membership and the day it expired I had 12 winks from all over the country. Funny thing is, when I checked my profile only 4 people had viewed it! Makes you go hmmmmm

Being naive to the internet, I joined Yahoo personals and got a lot of unwanted mail. After a while I decided to delete my profile, it proved impossible, I think its still there, dont get any more unsolicited mail though, not any more thank goodness..

I cannot say that I am surprised and actually am happy to see this has happened. Not for the people who have been scammed, mind you but for the companies that have been caught. It has always been my belief that one should not have to pay to find a date. And have we not all grown weary of all the ads online saying 'free personals' only to find out that there is a fee after we signed up?

Yahoo personals used to be free way back when. In their defense I think that they switched to a fee based system intially because of all the abuse-IE, pornography, prison inmates...it became a real free for all and like free things, it was ruined for the many by the few. But that they would now be accused of fraud is a sad statement. As for Match.com well.....there you go. You would think they had been making enough money without having to resort to low tactics.

I hope that those pursuing the case win and get their day in court. Maybe...it will change the rules and there will be an end to pay based dating. Probably not. The net s too vast.

Thank POF for staying pure to internet dating.

I have a free profile on Yahoo and Match and noticed on Match where I would get constant winks (especially from True). I noticed that the winks I got were profiles that were wrote by a professional because they had no personal touch to them and had a beautiful gal in the photo in which looked like a model. I knew some model was not going to message me. I knew something was not right. I also noticed on Match that they had it setup to when you did a search they had a profile with some woman that looks like a model and one of those profiles taylored up by a professional/employee and it would always say that they was online. They would have a profile like that in several areas to where there was one in a each particular area. I knew better than to fall for that as well. I have been getting a lot of flirts from singlesnet as well. I do not talk to people or respond back to people if I do not think I have a chance with that person in that I know that women in many cases are picky and have their ''types'' that they go out with. I am not saying that I am an ugly looking guy but I am not the hunkiest guy either. I think some of you guys know what I am trying to say though. I have never paid any subscription to any site but have thought about it. After reading this and realizing that there is even more of this going on than what I had thought I may never get a subscription. What do you guys think about EHarmony.com? I see where some say that POF beats Yahoo and some of the other ones but the bad thing about this site is that there are not as many members in my area as there are on the paid sites. I have seen a bit more people on MySpace and Hi5 but that is more of a friends site and they are not on there to find that special someone, but you can still find people on there that are looking. The thing about the free websites is that they do not rely on your purchase to survive, just the advertisements. Maybe if they shut these other sites down at least for a little while it will lead people to find these free sites and more people would actually be able to contact each other. I wish more people would join sites like this and others that are free. Something I do believe in though, love knows no distance, but it sure makes it rough. I have had people on yahoo messenger ask for money or asked for me to setup a bank account for them to transfer it over here or to cash a check for them. I knew better than that. After a couple three attempts they quit contacting me. They had some profiles that were fairly close (the bordering state) in some cases.

There is not one single doubt in my mind that this is true. I've had numerous dating sites send me winks, or whatever they use to show interest on that site, or emails...the minute you sign up to read them...they stop. In addition, the number of fraud or spam emails that I've received is astounding. I e-mailed the customer service at one when I got a spam email I had paid for a subscription to read, wanting my money back. Tough luck was the response that I got. Luck of the draw they tell me. I've also had numerous people begin emailing and then subsequently stop once I've subscribed.

Companies like match.com and ameriacansingles.com should be taken down and I hope that they are put out of business for these practices and if I ever meet one of the execs responsible for these practices I would probably spit in their face.

How about this?

I have been contacted (not here - not POF) from 3 different women from 3 different countries who all were refugees fleeing an oppressive government who were responsible for killing either their husband (2) or their father (1). Of course daddy or hubby ran a plantation or managed a diamond company or some such, and each of these widows were recieving anywhere from $6-$16 million either from the estate or it was tied up in a sheltered account somewhere that daddy or hubby had set up for them just in case something like this was going to happen - and OF COURSE these women all needed my help getting their money out of the country. They needed a foreign partner. And they were of course going to offer 10% - 20% of the total as compensation...

The best tactic they liked to use was saying things like (and notice the carefully phrased bad english): "I the trusting to you because your to me the one have good with character. Please do not be decieve to me. I to you the trusting person."

As far as Yahoo and Match goes, though. I DO have accounts there (not paid) that I cannot seem to get rid of...

Keep an eye open and your brain engaged, everyone...

Of course, ever wonder why you NEVER get responses from women you write to? You can send out a million emails on those sites and others like Mate1.com and never get a response/
Webdate and Cupid aren't all that good either. I got a message from a woman on Cupid. I have sent her many emails in return never to hear from her.

Fake pictures, fake emails, fake winks, fake women. Women saying they will meet you and never show up. Internet dating for the most part is a scam.

I must say I have met real women from this site.

Based on our study, 90% of the dating websites out there have approximately 40% fake profiles listed. This is just to get a potentially new customer to sign up after viewing numerious attractive men and women.

These companies (no one is exempted) will send you fake winks and short messages such as ' someone is interested in you' just to get you to make a paid subscritpiton. This is why so many of them will offer you free sign up and after you do, they will try anything to keep you renewing your subcription.

We know that all of the above is true for the following reasons:

We ramdomly sent out over 300 e-mails to several match potential on both the male and female side. This was done on over 60 different dating websites, with suprising results.

Even if you were the most unattractive or attarctive man or woman on the planet, the results should be pretty much straight accross the board. ( or at least in part )

We got less than a 30% response from both woman and men on the attractive and non-attractive side, of which less than 10% responded a second time ( even though we were a perfect match, photo and all).

The funny thing is, the unattractive profiles ( by consensus) got a 5% response, but after their subscription expired, we received approximately 20 wink and ' I'm interested in you messages'. hhmmm

In addition, we found that some profiles after being posted for a while with photos, the address/location of the person will change as well as requirement for a match, WITH multiple profiles for the same photos.

Finally, there are ringers out there (with a profile) that work for the Dating Websites themselves. They will suck you in to subscribe and when you do, then they will dissapear. ( that's very real) After your subscription expires, you will be contacted again by the person through the website even though THEY ALREADY HAVE YOUR DIRECT CONTACT INFO AND PERSONAL E-MAIL. You need to ask yourself, why wouldn't someone want to contact you directly if you provide your personal e-mail info and so on. The reason is simple, they want you to go through the website so when your subscription expires, you'll be forced to renew.

So, the big question is, how do you know what's real and what's not: The answer, YOU DON'T. You need to use common sense. If you had a subscription to a website and you changed your approach several times and it STILL didn't get you the results that you desired, the chances are if you renewed your subscription again, IT WON'T WORK. You'll just be tricked into renewing your subscription again for no reason. That goes for 90% of the websites that are out there

Cheers

Here is a job posting from Mate1, if there is any question about what this position is really for read what a former online ambassador has to say.

http://www.badbusinessbureau.com/reports/ripoff142721.htm

Now what they didnt tell me was that They would send out an email addressed from me to ALL of the males and lesbian females on the site telling them that I liked their profile, That I wanted to correspond with them and to get back with me by of coarse sendind me an email.

LOL... Do you know how many e-mails I got in one day? about 500 Men who were 65 years old were flattered that I, (really Mate 1) had sent them a letter and that I, (really mate 1) wanted to correspond with them. Ya see men have to pay high prices to mate 1 to be a Member.

Title: Online Ambassadors
Location: Work from home. Anywhere in North America.
Schedule: Schedule: Flexible. 15-20 hours/week.
Pay: $1100 for 6 weeks.

Are you a sociable person who loves to meet new people online? Do you have a home computer? If you answered yes to these questions, you can earn nearly $200/week working just a few hours each day on your own time.

Mate1.com needs Online Ambassadors from all North American locations. If you are over 18 years of age, outgoing, courteous and can type reasonably quickly, you can do this work in no more than 15-20 hours per week, at home.

Your mission would be to communicate with our members by internal Mate1 email with a view to familiarizing them with the web site and making them feel a part of the greater Mate1 community. Your work would consist solely of replying to emails from Mate 1 members. The ideal candidate will have some experience with or interest in online dating.

I myself have a profile on true, and paid $50 just to send a message to someone who i thought was interested only to get no reply, even now my inbox is flooded with "winks" from people. and for awhile i was curious why every person who was interested had no picture in thier profile, and no information. I also had signed up with yahoo before, same story, as soon as i had paid my subscription no one was interested. All those dating paysites are crap, i just hope i can find someone on here some day.

theres alot of other dating or friends sites, that send a e-mail saying you have a wink and when you go to the sites there's no messages.I think Yahoo does a great job on messaging and they are being pickon unfairly. If you read the terms and conditions before you join a site you'll see that the site is not responiable for all that bull; there's always somebody spoiling it, for people like me who enjoy it.

The thing that I find offensive is that Yahoo and Match are supposed to be providing a simple service for a small fee. And yet somehow the idiots running those businesses have corrupted such a simple idea.

So instead of paying a small fee to talk to the users, you are paying a small fee to send one message to a user who will have also pay a fee to respond to you. Yet you are told in the literature that you are paying the fee to talk to the users without such a condition.

A breach of contract such as this amounts to fraud and stealing. It would have been easy for both companies to avoid such fraud and still make a reasonable profit off of a service that requires little creative contribution or effort from its management.

Corporate trying to be slick and one-up the little guy. Common trend in the modern world.

I KNEW it ! I JUST knew it ! Ya, if it was my company, I'd hire some great looking people to get you to sign up to my site. When I first signed up to these places, I had NO IDEA. Its true that having to pay shows that you REALLY wanted to talk to a certain person and thought they were worth the price of admission. I think its not just 'match' and yahoo, but all of them including lava (especially lava) and for sure 'friend-finders'. I get at least 10 e-mails a week from them saying some 'hottie' loves my profile and I haven't been an active member for over 2 years. On that site, you can't even delete your profile once your temporary membership expires.
When I first signed up at POF, my headline read "Fancy meeting you here" because I was a little surprised that some of the people whom I thought were employees at the pay sites were members here too.
Its definitely nice to have a free site, although you run the risk of every Tom,****and OhhhhGary messaging you !
Thats my dime !

I remember paying to message on Mate1. That lasted only about three days since no one ever messaged me back and there weren't enough people in my area. Ever since I cancelled my paid membership, on occasion, I'll get an e-mail from Mate1 saying I have new mail. Actually, I remember this starting the day after I cancelled my paid membership. Coincidence? I think not.

I haven't had much success off of here, yet, but hey, at least I can message anyone I want, whenever I want.

Canadians Canadians... Listen Up...

There is a CTV program called "Olsen on your Side" they just love this kind of stuff and if a few of us would send a email on the page:

http://www.bcctv.ca/emailform.jsp?emailTo=olsen@ctv.ca

They have a little fill-in form to send in...

I'd love to see this story spin up into the national press... The national dailies and then Goggle would get it and things could really get going. I filled in my 2bits worth.. but if say 25 or even 50 of us did it... who knows?? Bad press would really do a nunber to these scumbag ripoff sites.

Yeah I was always suspicious of Match.com, I was a subscribing member once and got enticing e-mails just after it expired trying to get me to re-subscribe which I did to my cost, my subscription has since run out and will not be returning.

A real scenario
