Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud

Yahoo is the worst for this disgusting behavior. They set up fake people, let you talk to them for awhile, then when they get their money the people suddenly stop emailing you. What I find weird is that the "women" all seem to want your real address, phone number and pictures right away. They also have a lot of Russian scam artists on the site. I have sent them emails reporting these people but they are still there. Match does it sometimes as well but yahoo seems dispicable to me. Lava seems to be on the up and up as far as I can tell (at least from my experiences).

I have a lot of complaints about all the paid sites because it isn't just the two mentioned in the law suit..My big complaint about Match is they suckered me in the same way with winks from supposed customers when my profile was hidden and could not be viewed..I signed up for one month just to answer the messages building up in my mailbox..I discovered even though I was a paid customer I could not communicate with others unless they were paid cusomers as well..When my month was up they automaticlly rebilled my credit card for the second month after I asked them not to..They refused a refund so I asked them to give me the three month plan instead because it was cheaper than the monthly plan..They refused that as well..I called my credit card company and made sure they could not bill me again..I'm all but finished with alot of these sites because there are a lot of fakes out there

I agree with the post that said that we need to tell everyone else about this dating site. I personally have had a lot more luck with Yahoo than with this site, but I think it's because a lot of people don't know about this site. I've met several nice men from Yahoo and when we discuss the personals and I mention POF they have never heard of it. I notice a lot of Canadians and NY people on this site. I have a very limited number of matches on this site and I feel it's just that not many guys in my area even know about it. Maybe there is something we can do about that. I wonder if I could get away with emailing everyone on Yahoo just to let them know about it. Hmmmm.....

I do want to thank POF for this site and your forums,

sincerely,

Pam

The only service I ever paid for was lava (still have free credits and have had them for about two years now) and eHarmony. I guess I am lucky I don't have any compliants other than how difficult it is to delete profiles of some of the services.

Was a member of Yahoo, True, Match etc... nothing bad happened nothing good happened.

I have to say I guess I am lucky, I met a few people from Yahoo all nice just not the big bang. A friend of mine met her husband there, another friend met her husband at eHarmony and another one met hers on oneandonly.com. Only reason I am still online is because I know it works since it has worked for my friends. I have met many men for coffee dates which were nice and I have met men who I could have lived without. I have been fortunate that I have no horror stories compared to my friends.

I have had the scammers contact me on POF, nigerian bank fraud etc. I have never had them contact me on True, Yahoo or Match, or I just never looked since I wasn't a paid memeber.I have talked to some nice people here as well... there are always people everywhere who do the unsavory and there will always be people for them to take advantage of.

I do have one thing to say, I agree with the guy that said the people on the paid sites seem a little more serious about what they are looking for and finding it.

May I also suggest adding uDate to this growing list of dishonest sites, I noticed the flurry of interest as my membership was ending.:

I just wanted 2 say that the words you speak are so very true & the thing that always mad me themost upset was ..THEY ALL SAID.." FREE DATING SERVICE" You would spend atleast 1 hour some could spend more in time writing your profile only 2 discover at the end that you have 2 pay 2 talk to people & pay 2 recieve email, pay 2 send email..I didn't see anything free other than the BS they were getting away with..& The whole time preying on peoples feelings & using their feelings like targets & weak spots..Some of us have been thru more than others & its a shame that we should have 2 be subjected 2 people continuing the pain we are so desperate to end by meeting people that have the same interests that we do..& That is meeting someone that is not going to hurt us & our feelings..Otherwise we could just go 2 the bars or the streets & meet someone we have no insight on..We trusted these people.. & They should be held responsiable for their doings..I to have had my own suspisions of them sending false emails & winks only because I would respond & hear nothing in return..& I would think how rude..They wrote me..& I take time 2 respond & no reply..Well a thieves aren't as smart as they think cause if they were so damn smart they would be doing something legal for a living..SUPERDAD399/RUSTY Washington,Mo.

Although I did notice that I got a lot more interest just after I joined match (two months ago) than now, can't say I've had anything majorly funny-looking happen otherwise. I belonged to another pay site a while back and did meet two people on it, though neither went anywhere - in retrospect, the number of potential connections on all the sites I've tried (including POF) is miniscule compared to the supposed number of "available" people out there.

Having said all of this, is it ethical for POF to have a direct link to the law firm handling the class-action on the POF website? It's one thing to inform the public, but another to help in "fast tracking" people to a lawsuit against a major competitor.

Don't mind the informational link to this discussion forum thread - but the link seems kind of sleazy on POF's part.

Meeting people and finding love should be "FREE'. I'm not saying I've never paid for a service, but when I found this sight, never again will I pay for something that is bogus. Until others stop paying for these sights, they will continue to prey on the vunerable.

These two are not the only ones that do that. The adult dating sites are the worst, but at least they send a fake one with a naked woman. I agree with some of the other POF members. When money is involved, there usually will be some kind of fraud.

This does not surprise me. I was a member of both Match.com and Yahoo Personals and had thought the same thing. It was strange that once I cancelled my subscriptions amazingly there were many that were interested in me. I would go a week or two without any e-mails or winks and then once I decided to cancel, voila!...I had messages and winks and just about everything else they could come up with. It's sad that two big names in the dating site business had to add to the frustration and deceit that are already present with the whole online dating scene.

True.com I feel does the same thing, I had to actually call them via phone to get them to stop emailing me. The only site I trust and use is eHarmony. Fake accounts has always been a plague on sites as well, its quite annoying.

I agree...why in the hell would you seriously want to make someone pay for love. It's simple...so Yahoo and Match can make money off of us single folks. I was extremely happy when I found POF...the fact that it is 100% free just makes me wanna stay, even though there is a lull in my activity at the moment. I am also a memeber of the Yahoo dating site, True.com and eroticy....once my free trial was over I never decided to continue due to havin to pay big money just to stay and communicate....to hell with that....From all of the sites I've been on I've only met one girl...met her off of True.com...the date was awsome, we had a good time, but she led me on...I hate that shit....lol How can I find out if I can get in on this lawsuit?

Thank God. It's about time. E*Harmony deserves to be in there, too. I don't know about anybody else who has been on that particular (expensive) nightmare, but I thought it was odd that I would get so many matches (130) that would NEVER respond. I think they match active members to others who have long since lapsed, which is fraud. Since you never know who is truly active or not active for how long on that site, it's wide open to fraud. Plus I think a lot of the bios are made up!

I couldn't agree more, it's true what they say, if something sounds to good to true, it's often not. Matches and winks always came at the end of my subscribtion, making you think that maybe I should stay on another 3 months or so.

I think they are not the only pay sites that do that, there are many more, only these two have
been discovered.
On some sites that you see that say 100% free,it only lets you view the members, and receive winks,or read the great letters, if you want to respond to mail you have to be a paying member.
Single parents .com is only one of these.I used to get mail saying so and so is interested in you or,you have new mail, but thought to myself, they were fake, and wanted me to subscribe Matchdoctor and yahoo was another scammer.I think it sucks when some have to take advantage of people, real sad.

Admin thanks,for this site.

You know, I sent a message to someone on this site not to long ago and told thher to check out my myspace ad. I sent the web address to her and this site changed the address to something like www.spamsite.com. Is that legal? Has anyone else on this site experienced anything like this as well?

I acually experienced this first hand. I never paid the money to join the match.com site. .But I WOULD GET EMAILS from attractive ladies..I knew they were fake when I would get 3-4 of the exact same emails from different people. That site was lame. I hope they get slapped hard!

Kilgore: Yes, it's legal.
It prevents spammers from spreading viruses and spam.
Those sites that get changed to www.geocities.com are ones that are most commonly known to spread crap like viruses and spam, which nobody wants.
Aside from that, this is a privetely owned site, so Admin could rig the filters to delete people for even trying to send those links, and nobody could do shit about it.
Securty to protect the members, and keep the site clean.

I also wondered that about Lavalife as I found that I joined a few times and each time I was sent smiles and after a couple of conversations the person was no loger interested...

The same scenario occurred to me more than once on Lavalife. A smile would be sent to encourage me, a paying member, to initiate an email, or pay for a timed IM session; thereby slowly exhausting all my credits.
Typically, one or two email exchanges ensued with the person whom had sent me a smile in the first place and then *poof*... No further communication.
Once I even dared writing one such indivdual a further e-mail, asking if things were ok. I got a rather rude reply that her excuse for not replying was that things had gotten so busy for her and that I do not disturb her. she assured me that she would write back at her earliest opportunity. That was the last message that was sent to me by her.

Long story made short, I find Planet POF more genuine for obvious reasons.
Congrats BigFish & C.. Your devotion to this site is being appreciated by more people every day.

Yes I feel that many time I would get respoces to my profile and was not able to respond back or that I would feel that the picture on the profile was off a pporn website. Now I know Im good looking but the guys that would respond would be far too perfect to be on the internet looking for a soul mate.
