| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/21/2005 8:22:57 AM | I had a similar experience with another site, and am glad to see something is being done. I had an account on Lavalife. I received a "smile" from someone in one section (Dating), and it was this gorgeous looking woman from pretty far away. At the time, I didn't think much of it, and I didn't have any credits. I purchased credits a few days later, and I sent her a message - I figured what the heck? No reply.
The following day, I was in another section (Relationships), they have a profile that appears on the home page for that section, and it rotates through various women each day. That same woman's profile came up - same picture, but totally different information. She was from a different country, different height, age, etc.
I contacted Lava, thinking something was fishy there, and told them about this. They immediately deleted both profiles, and reversed the credits I used to contact this "person". They made it seem like someone else was fooling around, when in fact, it sent a signal to me that something might not be all right with that place.
I have met many great women from that site however, and had some good relationships, so I didn't follow up, but since then, I've been careful with that site as well....and I don't trust many now. I tried American Singles, and that same thing happened - I got about 10 messages from women...but you can't read your email until you pay. I got a free trial for a week, checked messages, and replied to them - nobody ever replied. Some were from women from Russia - guys, stay away from them! They just try to take you for your money!!!! That's another story for another time. Another site that I think is VERY guilty of this bs is Ashley Madison, and Date.ca (the Canadian version of American Singles) so I'm glad something is being done - maybe now they will all be brought down!

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/21/2005 8:54:52 AM | You said it the best:) How lucky we are to have such a site as this. I have dealt with a few of those "Pay sites" and had bad luck with them. I believe I was one who received a false message near my cancellation date. I am so thankful for this site. POF is the best!!! Thanks to all who endorse and keep this site going! | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/21/2005 9:56:39 AM | | I'm of the opinion that this is the case for many online sites. I've been suspicious when I'd get similar "winks". After a while I'd think it's OK, subscribe and write to somene only to never hear from them again. This happened on "Date.com" and "DreamMates.com. | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/21/2005 9:58:26 AM | Me too!
Like a lot of guys who are looking for that elusive "perfect match", I have put profiles up on Yahoo, True, Match, Eroticy, and a few other more obscure sites. I have refused, however, to ever pay for these sites.
When Quest went "pay", I went elsewhere, and ended up jhere on POF. From real, uncensored, non pay sites like Quest or POF, I have a prety realistic idea of just how few women respond to my profile. it sucks, but hey, thats life.
Amazingly enough, on these other sites I have literally hundreds of women, the same ones I seek here at POF but do not "hook", all sending me winks and/or emails, all incredibly interested. My profile on all these sites is similar to mine here, so it is logical to expect a similar lack of responses. These same girls, here on POF, would not give me the time of day, so it is rather unlikely they would just because the site name is different.
And, of course, for me to reply to these "sweet young things", I have to pay to "upgrade" my profile... not likely! It is so blatently obvious I wonder why they even bother. Its good to see somebody make them accountable.

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/21/2005 10:27:55 AM | I am not suprised......I joined Match.com for three months.... The only people I meet were trying to extort money.... I just had a feeling that something was wrong... In my experience, some of the profiles I responded to were fake..... It's a shame and a scam.......... | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/21/2005 10:28:53 AM | | I have had that experience at a site called Heart Detectives...or something. I was getting, and probably still do, winks from girls that weren't very close to my match..ie, they wanted children, they didn't smoke and didn't want a smoker........I knew something was up...Very unscrupulous...... | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/21/2005 10:51:52 AM | I also have bad views about match.com - they would block you from seeing messages, unless you upgrade -yet they keep sending you winks from this one and that one - I get 4 people at a time ,trew my personnal email - They make you go thew a big profile, and lead you to think, you can contect others - another point,is that the person your that or, who sent you a wink live many states over - age is wrong - they also give you a color code, which doesn't match -- you can only send a wink - and you wait - to find out, there holding your message until you upgrade - other sites you put in your profile and wait 24 or 72 hrs - just to find out members are the only one who can send you a message- and you are allowed a certain amount of winks - so the person hits you up with a wink, you have to wait for them to send you a message before you can ,some sites you have to wait 24 hrs before you can send more messages - I like plenty of fish because it's 100 % free - and you can have good friends too . know hiding cost - because they care about your feelings. Thankyou - plenty of fish - | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/21/2005 11:02:27 AM | It's funny. The plaintiff seeking damages has no direct evidence of fraud, just heresay. There is no actual "class action" suit. He is trying to make one. Good luck. Fraud is the hardest tort to sue on. Besides, just cause some bossomed bint tells you stuff on a date does not make it true necessarily. Yahoo personals isn't mentioned in the article at all. Just some "guy" who can't get a date probably wants his money back plus a million more. What else is new.
Oh and by the way, I don't work for any of these companies nor their affiliates.

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/21/2005 11:09:31 AM | No surprise here- I have always felt it was a scam. Coincidence how I receive a reply from a great looking woman right when I elected to end my membership. Or a wink I receive is the company expressing how sorry they are to lose me. How a membership is automatically renewed a day or two before it expires. It's a business and involves money. Enough said. | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/21/2005 11:43:53 AM | | not only do they do the winks- they censor your mail- they will not let some one write to you that is not a paying member-even though you are paying to get mail and write to one;s that write or wink at you-hope they lean a lesson from the civil suit- | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/21/2005 11:46:03 AM | I've had a couple of sites send me winks that I wasn't even on. Some guy, supposedly, wanted to talk to me so I signed up and tried talking with him. Every time I did talk to him it was the same questions and answers back to me no matter what I wrote to him. It really does make you wonder. That's why I'm hesitant to write back to someone so I try to start something first. Oh well, you can't have everything!! Hope they get their pants sued off!!

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/21/2005 11:47:39 AM | Yahoo definitely tries to suck you in. I think most (maybe all) of the profiles are real, but there is NO way to tell if the user is currently a paying member, or how old the profile is (it could be years old - and while it is possible to delete your profile, it isn't obvious and how many people do anyway?).
Match.com does show when a user last was online, which is very helpful in weeding out inactive users. It does not show expired members, as far as I know. I have never had a problem with match, so cannot speak directly to the issues raised. I do know that every email or wink I received was from a legitimate user.
So, it appears that there are more users on Yahoo than are really there.
Also, the "free trial" is a scam. The only way to cancel your free trial is by surface mail. They DO NOT accept email or FAX to cancel, so it is almost inevitable that you will have to pay for at least one month even if you want to cancel. That seems at best to be misleading, and is possibly fraudulent.

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/21/2005 12:24:44 PM | | Happens to me on Match.com all the time. You can tell the fake ones from the real ones easily though. It shows that they sent you a email but never viewed your profile or hotlisted you. Why would they send a email if they had not even viewed my profile? | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/21/2005 12:33:53 PM | I was a part of true for the free trial and i would bring something against them as well i had the same problem i get a thing for a wink i wrote to the person and i was made tro feel like an ass cause the person came back and said i didnt write you. which not only off but i felt cause it hurt so there for i stick with the dating site to meet new people that are free for most of features i dont trust em.

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/21/2005 12:38:37 PM | After having been a member of match. com, I most definately agree that the service posted fictious "winks" toward the end of subscription dates. Many of the individuals that I responded to after receiving notification of a wink, were under the impression that I had first contacted them, Quite embarassing. This type of fraud seems to be prevolent throughout the "Dating Services" on-line, and should be prosicuetted to the fullest extent of the law! Here Here for the class action suite! | |
