| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/22/2005 9:27:51 AM | | Yes, True.com has to be the worst. I thought something was up when I would check out the profile of someone that supposedly winked at me only to find in their "who I want to meet" section, a description not at all consistent with my profile - age mainly noticed - they want to meet someone who is 18-22 and I am 48 - and they are winking at me????? I tried to stop the email notifications and got a run around - I just ignore them now - they get sent to spam where they belong. | |

Just came across something on Msn this morning about it.

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/22/2005 10:16:24 AM | About five months ago I joined the "THE RIGHT ONE" OFFLINE DATING SIRVICE.
Since then only sent me 1 referal and her number was no longer connected or active. after that they say they can not presently find matches for me and want to have the best match so they cannot match me with another at this time.
I think the first and only match was a setup. as got no matches since and they claim they have many members. I am a nice guy looking for a nice girl with good values. And look nice so I think there should be no trouble in finding me a date. If there company suppose to be so great where is my date. But geez I paid over 1200 bucks for there sirvice and that was the lowest plan by the way!!... and not meet one person as of yet in near 5 months! Somthing is fishy here and it is not POF!
"THE RIGHT ONE" OFFLINE DATING SIRVICE" is located in King of Prussia.
BEWARE OF THAT COMPANY SEEMS LIKE ANOTHER HEART AND MONEY BREAKER!
JUST THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE A HEADS UP OF THIS COMPANY AS WELL!
Well good luck on all your searches and free dating sites like POF is the only sure fire way to not be taken. Thanks for dating sites like POF some may have a chance.
You all have a good day and watch your back. :)
Also hope you find your true love :)

The two sites in question, Match and Yahoo! are both in the top three overall personal sites. You would think, why would they be allegedly trying to acquire extra memberships as compared to start-up competitor sites? Ultimately it's all about greed. It's also bad enough getting contacted by women, mostly overseas (or men) who are looking to just scam you one way or another with their pseudo profile/pics.
I've investigated similar concerns with other pay sites including imatchup and loveaccess, and found them to have similar questionable tactics as they attempt to solicit (more) members. Case in point, I put up a 2nd profile, different from the first, and received a wink/and or email to both at the same time as did a friend of mine who also had a profile there. Of course, emails are not readable for non-members, but ultimately, generic emails were sent out proving that these administrators were not too smart in their haste to fraud the public.
Free sites like POF are a better option in truly knowing who is out there, albeit on a much smaller scale, even if they don't acknowledge you messages. : (

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/22/2005 10:29:15 AM | | I must agree, anything i have tried i recieved not only spam but 5 or 6 emails from interested parties ironically after my account ran out, the only true sites i have found that are one hundred percent free are POF and thereyouwere.com , the later is even free to use there video section , so if we support these sites and pass the word around how terrific they are then there is simply no reason to use the pay sites that just screw you over time and again. | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/22/2005 11:00:29 AM | | I also have been palgued by false e-mails from True. I get them all the time and just deleat them. I find this to be a lousy practice for these companies. Since we are seriously seeking a mate and it is quite important to us. True sends me nore e-mail notices by far than the lagitamate free sites i am on. Just thousht i would put my 2 cents worh in | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/22/2005 11:05:14 AM | I've been a member on both at different times. Member on Yahoo now and not Match. Of course the same people are on both. Their not the only ones sending out fake winks and e-mails. I like the ones that your not a member on and they send you an e-mail but not let you view the e-mail or the person ! I wonder if we can get our membership fees back from both of them?
Happy Hunting

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/22/2005 11:41:20 AM | | Hello every one, I have been testing the dating sites for over 5 yrs Ihave found if you do a thorough enough search and write some of the names down on paper you will find the same pictures, with some times four to six different descriptions, i have seen these for a number of years on almost every site .Sometimes if you search a few different pay dating sites you will find plain ordinary looking housewife type pictures with outragiously sexually descriptive wants and desires.Profiles that most woman just looking for a little fun on the side of their marriage would not dare to say or confess in a profile. Also some of these sites that say that they are 100% free are just a con hoping you will sign up for an account. and when you try to reply to an add the want you to buy credit, tokens,or a monthly subscriptions. the sites usually operate for their best interest, meaning to keep from going out of buiseness when they fall on hard times they simply sell their email lists to spammers. Some sites only launch to collect e mail addresses and then sell them too spammers. I have found plenty of fish to be awsome no games, opening pages are not full of nudity that you see on the opening pages many of the pay sites. | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/22/2005 12:13:49 PM | seeing the same picture is not an uncommon thing but what you said made sense about the email lists and the tokens , i took a chance an created a profile on thereyouwere.com , just as a tester to see what would happen as this site claims to be 100% free , after the profile was created i recieved an email with my user name and password and no bill or other spam ?? I am able to contact people at will with no pop ups no flash advertising and the site seems clean , i wonder how this is possible , i am not complaining there are some cute ladies on there but from a business point of view ?? How do they run a site like that ?? POF has treated everyone terrific and has become a large site and i like to see something like this succeed so cheers to POF and thereyouwere.com the ONLY two free sites i have found. | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/22/2005 12:18:58 PM | I think that after these law suits that have been launched against Yahoo Personals and Match.com are settled, the resulting pubilicity from it should be enough to destroy them and put them out of business for good, anyway. Then these other singles websites that do the same things are going to think twice about it and possibly change their ways of doing business because it would cause them the same problem and affect their profit margin. I think it is going to be a good wake up call for these types of singles websites, especially if Yahoo Personals and Match.com turn out to have to pay big bucks to settle these law suits.
It is like the old saying goes, "The best form of advertising is by word of mouth." and the same goes for the story on the news about it as well, don't you think? Our world has become a very small place since the Internet was created and it wouldn't take long before everybody who has access to the Internet finds out and then some!

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/22/2005 12:24:49 PM | Dear Members, Yes something definitely needs to be done about Match.com... There were a few times that I would get e-mails from supposed to be members and when I would contact them back they would say that I was mistaken that they had never sent me an e-mail, so go figure... And I would receive e-mails from members that would include their regular e-mail address but Match.com would either delete their address or replace the ending with match.com... I decided to cancel my subscription with match and then that same day I had recieved an email from a supposed to be member trying to get me to email him back and there was something completely odd about his e-mail. Awhile back he e-mailed me like 5 or 6 times and almost every other word in his e-mail was mis-spelled. OK, so then the day I cancelled my subscription and I received that e-mail from that member that had contacted me before everything in his letter was spelled correctly... So I think one of the employees from match had sent me that letter... I still have a profile on there but no subscription and I haven't been on there but maybe a month and where it shows all my info it says that over 3,900 people have viewed me, but I don't know if I should believe that or not... Not unless there really are that many people on the internet every day... Another example of Match screwing people around is that when I first signed up I did not have a subscription and I got this one e-mail from some guy and he didn't know if I was a member or not but in his letter he said Hey, why don't you get a subscrition so we can talk more, and the pic. of that supposed to be member was a really good looking guy... So yes, match does play with peoples emails... What irritates me is that you can go to jail or be fined if you open someones stamped mail but match is sitting here fooling around with everyones E-MAILS... Also on matches personal e-mails from member to member if you will notice at the bottom of the page in blue under DISCLAIMER: It says : Match.com does not screen private email between members, nor are we liable for the content of these messages. All members are bound by Match.com Service Agreemant. But under important tips in the blue section it says: Our e-mail system strips away your real e-mail address so that the recipient will NOT see it in the FROM: line; then it goes on talking about how you must remove any mention of your address in the body of your letter. But they are NOTHING but LIARS, because they do screen our e-mails and they don't only remove our address from the FROM: line they are the ones taking it out of the body of the letter... There's also something in the blue part talking about if you feel offended by someones e-mail then send it to them at abusemail or something like that and they will take care of it, but I sent them two very offensive e-mails and their only reply was for me to block the person from contacting me... Great support team... RIGHT..... LOL... Well anyway that's all I have to say for now so thanks for reading!!!!!!!!!!! BYE!!!!!!!!! Thanks POF for giving people a chance to speak their minds!!!!!!!!!
SINCERELY, WENDY | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/22/2005 12:30:23 PM | I have had this problem with true.com and match.com...but in all reality its only our own faults and we should learn from our own mistakes!!! anyone who thinks that they are going to get a dime back is dreaming. First of all you may win your little suit but the money that you put into court costs and the expenses of getting to and from the court hearings are going to double the amount of money you get back from either site!! I mean how much money did it cost to sign up?? 25 bucks?? Anyways yeah there are scam artists out there that like to take advantage of gullable un-aware adults but thats a part of life and so alls we have to do is make sure we dont fall for whatever it is those people want us to do!!!! LIKE SIGN UP ON AN INTERNET WEB-SITE TO MEET MR./MRS. RIGHT!!!!

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/22/2005 12:43:45 PM | I've never received emails from anyone at Match that I believed was from someone in the employ of Match. I have received emails in stilted English from impossibly beautiful 26 year-old women whose profile includes an age range of 19-99 for their desired date. Right. A little sleuthing showed several profiles with identical texts but different pictures and different cities. I think these were fronts for 419 scams.
I have received emails from impossibly beautiful 26 year-old women who said that her goal was to find a man who wanted the kind of relationship described in "The Bible for Men" and I would just have to buy a copy of my own because she wasn't loaning hers. Yup, it's self-published. Yup, there were multiples of that profile, too.
I have received emails from impossibly beautiful 26 year-old women who have informed me that they are going to be cancelling their Match.com subscription, so I should contact them at their "real" address, which happens to be in .ru.
Whenever I mention those profiles to customer support, they are taken down within 24 hours.
These frauds constitute about half of the unsolicited "first contact" emails I get from women.

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/22/2005 1:06:28 PM | I know that all the adult sites do this stuff to lure u in.It really sucks if the legit ones do it also.Dating is hard enuf without them doing shit like that. There are those that do nothing other than think up avenues of making "Quick Money" who have no conscience of anything or anyone else but themselves. Then they run as quickly as possible when caught. Well, Match.com & Yahoo are a little too big to run away I guess.
Never mind all the People that have been so severely upset and disillusioned by Dating Sites no wonder they want to quit the Scene. Maybe nothing wrong with dating Sites, just shrewd unethical Operators.
anyone who thinks that they are going to get a dime back is dreaming. First of all you may win your little suit but the money that you put into court costs and the expenses of getting to and from the court hearings are going to double the amount of money you get back from either site!! I mean how much money did it cost to sign up?? 25 bucks?? I doubt its a Monetary issue, but one of conscience and hanging Con-Artists out to dry.

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/22/2005 1:15:42 PM | | I was an unpaid member on yahoo for less than a month. That was back in September. I deleted my entire yahoo account. Just out of curiosity, I logged on today (end of Nov) as a guy looking for a gal my age and, lo and behold, there was my exact profile including all my vitals, only with a new username! I wish I had known to change my profile to all blank before I deleted it. What a crock!!! | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/22/2005 1:20:59 PM | I used to be on Match com and didn't notice anthing really dodgy - maybe they've changed. Yahoo are a fave mail site for scammers as they are free- without the MS restraint that Hotmail use for policy/spam. A lot of pay dating sites are free for women and this means the guys pay - and the truth of any profile/mail has to be suspect. A lot have strong links..even using the same script/engine and many similar profiles. Bookofmatches (free) is OK, very like POF,with a better UK base and very good forums. I think it's sad that there are so many sites using peoples isolation as a hook..but hey! - we know whats going on and time will make these sites pointless..all thanks to POF founder who will pull the rug from under these harvesters of human hope !!

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/22/2005 1:23:53 PM | The only people who will make any money from a class action lawsit will be the Law Firm of Grabbit and Runne.. Their $400/hr shyster lawyers always get their money first and there will be little but crumbs left for the plaintiffs.
i recall a recent class action suit in the US that resulted in a $25mil award. ALL of it went toward "legal costs" and nothing went to the plaintiffs.

If you think about it, this was probably considered normal business practice for paysites. I think litigation against eharmony has started as well. Thank god for POF! Maybe we'll see alot more new members?

I think its ridiculous that this suit is going on. Whether these sites are doing this or not, people will recall if they sent the wink and doesn't it come down to it being our choose if we want to continue to pay!
