do I get a free t-shirt for consistently promoting POF ??

You haven't met your quota of dragging enough dead corpses into the shop yet ...

Considering how rampant and widespread this form of abuse is among so many Dating Sites, I think its about time the Gov't steps in to investigate this type of Public Fraud.

I had a hard time getting off a few sites......one of them kept sending me mail even though I had deleted my profile; i sent an email telling them to unsubscribe me; they accused me of being nasty!!!..... then with true.com; I kept getting 'winking back' from guys that I hadn't winked at; some were sending me 5 winks or more each, then there was the guy that had pestered me on other sites...... When i complained, they said that these guys matched my criteria; not by a long shot!!!!

Re: blueeyestex and other's experiences with Internet scammers

This goes to show that when interacting with people here on the Internet, as soon as someone wants you to do anything of a financial nature such as give them money, cash checks for them and send them the proceeds via Western Union, accept or ship packages in their behalf etc....BLOCK THEM!

The business model of most dating/personals services encourages fraudulent activity on their part; after all if you indeed do find your True Love, you won't need the service and they won't be getting their monthly dues from you.

I do hope all the sleaze sites either get sued into either ethical business practices or sued out of business.

Has anyone else had this issue with TRUE.com?

Actually, I just dealt with them this week. I kept getting winks from men on their site. There was no way to write them and tell them even "no thanks" without joining as a paid member. I wrote them and told them I thought it was pretty sh!tty that those men were just left hanging. There is a thing that says "E-mail him free!!" and when you click on that button, it asks for subscription info, but says you can have a week free. So I'm left here looking like a hateful old broad who doesn't acknowledge people who say hello to me.

I had some sort of problem with my profile, too. I had gone over there to remove it, but I decided to fix it to tell people that if they wrote me telling me any thing about their schlong, that I would NOT be interested. I figured that would get rid of some of the incidents that I considered a problem (I know. I'm old. You aren't all like that LOL).

I called their customer service line. I got a live person, after a little bit of a wait. He was very nice, helped me fix my profile, answered all my questions, and gave me a month of their service free.

I was sort of impressed. We even talked about some of the stuff on my profile - my shih tzu and my weimaraner - because he likes dogs too. But he was just a kid. He wasn't flirting, just being nice and interested.

heartdetectives.com IS the worst. They charged my credit card 3 times in one month .... Any site who uses ccbill.com as your billing company, BEWARE. If I can save 1 person money from joining this site I will be happy.

The "sexdatesnetwork" (18 domains) also uses CCBill. When I complained about the tactics of their client's web site, I certainly did not leave out the fact that if proven true, they would be an accessory to wire fraud, and thus also criminally as well as civilly liable. Similarly, the hosting provider could likewise be liable. No suit has been filed (yet) against these parties, including Mark Whrel, former spammer sued by AOL and the operator of "sexdates."

As for the charging of credit cards, debit cards, etc., after cancellation, other pay web sites (information providers, including but not limited to the genealogy sites) also seem to have this problem. Watch out in that some may try to "renew" the charge early - i.e. before the current subscription runs out. Advice: If you really need to pay for a subscription or buy something over the Internet, always use the card that is the soonest to expire. When cards are extended, the new expiration date is not always the same number of months from the old date. Additionally, (I called my bank on this one for the answer) cards expire on the first day of the month that marks their expiration if only a month and year are printed on it.

Example: A card bearing an expiration date of "12/2005" is good on 11/30/05, but not good on 12/01/05 - because it is considered expired as of midnight on the first of the month.

It's rather interesting that Lava just added this little goody to their terms of service Today, and if we don't agree to it we're free to leave lol

As part of the Service, we may from time to time, email to you publicly available information about other users of the Service whom we believe may meet your pre-selected search criteria. We cannot guarantee, and assume no responsibility for verifying, the accuracy of the information provided by other users of the Service, this includes information which we may provide directly to you but which has been posted or provided to us by other users of the Service.

I wonder if this replaces the bogus winks :)

I recently opted out of a service and my e-mail inbox was suddenly deluged with messages from supposedly beautiful women saying they wanted me. growing tired of this bit of fraud I blocked the addresses. Now I'm being deluged with virus and trojan infected messages. I've checked the source and they all originate from this dating site I'm a former member of. Guess these people really don't like it when you don't play by their rules.

I probably have very little to add to this that hasn't been said already, but..

EVERY company operates on people's emotions. Take Ebay. They base their business on people's emotional reactions to wanting to buy things they see. Dating sites operate on much the same principle.

Don't you think auction sites ever run fake auctions?

I know it's not the same, and frankly, Y! personals stink anyway. I've never even gotten the fake winks - just responses from real people who for the most part didn't interest me. And having to pay is bogus anyway. I did that before there were really any free sites out there.

Plus, I was so egotistical that I figured those 'perfect' people who contacted me were for real anyway But the personals suck anyway, and for that reason alone I'd like to see them shut down.

And, when dating sites don't use fake info, they tend to stink. Take eHarmony (haven't seen anyone complain about it yet). They don't have enough people on the site for anyone to fit your criteria. And then, no one uses them. Is it really a wonder that dating sites scam you?

Oh, and one other thing,

As for sites that are only free to women, aren't there other issues to face? Clubs do the same thing, and even worse, they'll let underaged women in. Yet no guys complain about that.

What I found humorous was when ads for these sites ran on my computer. They'd show pictures of 3 hot girls in my town. I laughed, because my town is very small and close knit and I know everyone here, and knew right then that the site was a fake.

And at one point, I had been on a free site called DatingFaces. A month later, I had people IM'ing me from some AOL match site, saying they loved my profile. I was duped.. and found out my profile somehow ended up on a site I'd never heard of.

Finally. For the record, to sue both dating sites would take an individual who has a tremendous amount of money to waste. Chances are, this individual who is suing is just as opportunistic as the personals sites are.

Some things on the Internet are Transitory, and I think 'Pay Dating Sites' is one of these. It comes and it goes, and many new Start-ups tried to get in on the Act while Internet Dating was at the Pinnacle of it's Success.

I have little Doubt most knew their Scamming Days were numbered, and it was just a Matter of cashing in on the 'Feeding Frenzy' while it lasted, getting just some of the 'Table Crumbs' from the bigger Hitters in Town, such as Match.com & Yahoo.

And that Time seems to have come, and as the Rollercoaster Ride starts to decend from its mighty Affluence, many will fold at the first Signs of a Class-Action Lawsuit, some will try to scramble away with the last few Bucks they can yank out of your wallets, and Credit Card Companies will place many under the Scope.

The House of Cards has begun to fall ...

The following link has plenty of upset and a few satisfied eharmony and Match customers on it:

http://www.museworld.com/archives/001149.html

For the record, I joined Match for a year. I sent out several messages and never got one reply. I corresponded with a lady for a few mails who initiated contact with me. I never got any of the continuation emails or any solicitations from obviously "perfect matches." Perhaps it was because I cancelled my subscription a month before the membership expired and then resigned the site some time later and haven't been back.

For grins I did the eharmony questionaire, but never joined. They gave me one match that was so far out in left field that I never considered pursuing it. A couple of weeks later they basically closed down my account even though I still get spam from them every so often.

Like most other dating sites, this one seems to run about 70% men to 30% women, so I'm not even bothering to try the matching aspect. The forums are cool, though.
Credit card suggestion
Posted: 11/29/2005 2:42:56 AM
In regards to the credit card suggestions made above, I'd like to add that prepaid credit cards can be very useful for internet transactions.

It's true that it's federal law that you are not liable for more than $50 if your credit card number is stolen, but many people don't realize that it's a real pain to deal with that situation.

So, if you're going to do credit card transactions on the internet with any place you suspect is not trustable, then use a pre-paid card. You can fill up some of them online using your regular credit card.

Separately, if any of you want to avoid email spam, check out www.spamgourmet.com

^ Yes, but only when I lived in a larger city. I was always amused by the admonition that if there is no one single at this address to pass it on to a single friend. Despite the fact that I've been chronically single, my trashcan enjoyed the company.

Message from Sex Match : you can not respond without paying

Message hey you.. finally found a guy in my city, want to chat? you can find me in livechat i'm a host there.. under SOOOO_PRETTY i'm on there after 3pm usually.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Comment: Imlive.com
The live chat they offer is actually a site for webcam porn that charges so many credits per minute. The link in the host email to cancel not a real link, a review of the source code reveals its easy to sign up and impossible to cancel. Even if you go to the site and suspend all email it doesn’t stop them sending invitations that are really offers to pay for video chat sex performances. There is no SOOOO_PRETTY
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Hi. Got to looking at profiles and came across yours.. My hubby and I have an open arrangement and can see other people as long as we don't talk about it. Ihope you don't mind my being so forth coming hehe. Im pretty open to most things like you, so lets chat and get to know each other on a whole other level.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I logged in here for fun, but after I read your profile, the idea of you just kind of lingered in my mind all day and I started thinking that there might be some hope beyond my terrible marriage. Please write me and tell me that I am out of my mind. If I am not out of my mind, then maybe we're both crazy!!! So you are really Married right?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Want to chaz?

Notice this is the same question from a different service, not the same picture or profile or even site yet “Want to chaz?”

I did the intro subscription on HM which was the first site I found and was getting views and winks in response to winks and messages I could not respond to so I tried the site.I never met anyone and after joining I sent 120 messages, 5 people responded once or twice then nothing I canceled the auto renewal and sent the site people a nasty message. Views of my profile during the free membership were 50 a week after joining they dropped to 4 views a week and no messages!

Profiles for no strings hot sex now women do not have any of their interest filled out at the bottom only the general info desire and what they are looking for sections at the top of the profile are ever completed. I’ve seen at least one picture used on profiles from other cities.

Oh also getting the Russian bride contacts !

Hornymatch All responses are basicly one liners no mater how long a letter you send and in closing offer real time chat options

Response for off site contact information and failure to meet for arranged chat sessions when I sent an ICQ ID MSN YAHOO etc….

well, lets chat and see what happens....whats your name???? hope to hear from you soon

Im not good with the whole download and install program thing. I need a friend from work to do it actually. Maybe ill ask around and see if someone can help me. For now lets just chat here though.

I do but I don't give it out to complete strangers.

I find all of the discussions here fascinating. I have avoided the big name sites and played with MEGAFRIENDS (when their FORUMS used to be fun - they aren;t any more ) . A group from MF of us jumped ship (OK some were pushed off of the ship ) and started posting at NETRELATE. It is a small site with way too many folks from Florida -- otherwise it is pretty fun.

I am glad to have stumbled upon POF. The Forums look to be fun, nice ppl , gripers, grinners, over-sexed, opinionated, happy go lucky, you- name - it , after all it is the variety that makes a good community.

I have made some terrific friends in those other places, and look forward to making some new ones here!

UPATE:
I have proof that SEXMATCH sponsers promotions that lead to other users scamming trial users and potential customers to their affiliate program sites. (do they know?)

At the bottom of the page on their website once your logged in it a link called

MAKE MONEY (here is the text)
Major pay provides multiple opportunities for webmasters to generate income: $25 per sign up program, flat rate 60% recurring program and $2 webmaster referrals. Major pay accepts a wide range of payment methods designed to maximize affiliate webmasters’ income – surfers can pay via credit card, check or dialer billing. All of our sites are 100% pop-up and console free!

Yup, no bullshit...Unlike many programs that requires you to send sales to get paid on your referrals. WE DON'T! You send us a webmaster that makes sales and you get paid $2 for EACH AND EVERY SALE - PERIOD! This is an excellent way to bring in some extra dough! Just think, you refer us 15 webmasters and each one makes only two sales a day...That's $1800 a month! Bottom line is, you take care of us and we take care of you!

They go on to list the payment plan for converting users to major pay sites.

One of which is: Affair Match

Individual people sign-up
Earn $25 PER signup for each and every full membership and trial conversion! Their single password grants them access absolutely to ALL of our exclusive content inside - each and every one of our high converting sites!

I recieved this as noted in my prior post on the subject:

The IMlive site is the chat site refered to in the SEXMATCH e-mails and it is basicly live sexcam shows site where you can chat with the performers. Access to voice and full video requires the purchace of credit units for sale on the site.

Rather than do their own selling they recruite users to bring them webmasters and customers that can be converted to paid memberships.

If sued in my opinion their position could be as follows: We did not request anyone defraud potential customers, we were unaware any of the users were using illegal tactics to earn their referal pay.

So bottom line is, it is other users taking advantage of their referal program scamming other users. ( The perfect defense...! and they make lots of money doing it with a commision only sales force of users chasing referal dollars).

I doubt they're primary focus is signing up people on SEX MATCH, that site appears to be a stringer site for conversion of customers to paid porn site memberships.

The forums on SEXMATCH even have threads where the users a discussing the fact that the site and dating contacts may be involved in fraud and that e-mails sent to trial users are fakes intended to get people to purchace membership. (Another point for defense)

I removed the time stamp and my user name from this post to distance myself from reprisal. Since these are cut and paste e-mails I would assume many many guys got the exact same message from numerous user IDs.

Their name should probably be changed to "watch the con", instead of "match dot com".

Now Match is saying that they've gotten the employee to sign an avidavit that she was never and employee. Yeah right.

Isn't that too easy. If anybody brings up an allegation against a giant like Match that seriously damages its reputation, do you really believe that all Match would do would be to get the person to sign an avidavit? No way, it'd be more like suing the pants off that woman.

The case of her signing an avidavit just means she's been bribed with a few millions to keep here quiet. Scams will never end. Support the free sites like plentyoffish, oasisoflove.com and end the greed.

Match.co trie to get me to pay to join. It said I had an e-mail. Hell, I couldn't even check out the profile to see who sent it. I should pay for that? What if it was some bimbo in Russia? I've had enough of those.

At least Yahoo isn't like that. Someone e-mails you., you can read it, see their profile and reply withoutout being a paying member.
