Memo to Ozzie

Using the internet to buy things is like going to the carnival.. a few honest operators... like Amazon or Skype ... the rest are scumbags. (Skype has been wonderful to me and worth every penny)

Ozzie, ANYTHING pitched on the internet with a make fast $$$ is a scam. Almost without exception any MLM or network marketing scheme usually makes little or no money...Unless you're in on the ground floor, they are little more than a pyramyd scheme.... Honest good money making opportunities, internet or otherwise, are few and far between and they are long gone before you ever hear about them... Honest good deals that make real money are NEVER advertised, the don't have to be... Everything else is for suckers.

Don't be one!

Unless you know and research the company or dating site on the forums and blogs, never give your CC info to anyone.

Comment to Admin... I don't know how you do it... or why? You are in the <1% of the wonderful people who have an altruistic streak.. so rare amongst the shysters and rip off artists that prowl the net.

God bless you both

All of those paid sites are the guilty of fraud in one way or another. Match.com I think is the worse. I went to that site after reading their ad for "free" member ship. I read the whole ad, even the small print. Free chat, free email, free etc.....so I decided to sign up. Take the time to fill out the profile, jumped through their hoops only to find out, gee only the winks were free....so I wrote to their support staff. Got a response back, saying gee they were sorry, they no longer offered free membership, they were forced to stop that. I wrote back and told them that they should quit advertising it as free then. They e-mailed me back and basically called me a liar....so I copy and pasted their add into an e-mail and sent it to them. Guess what, I never, ever heard back after that. Gee, big surprise on that one. As far as True.com I can't get my profile off that one. I even wrote to them and asked, but got no response...

I am fairly sure this is totally true based on things I have seen/experienced on some pay sites... namely match.com

I think both yahoo personals and match.com are a complete joke!!! I always get fake emails from women that are from russia!!! I am a nice looking male but I know looks aren't everything. I have never had a real email from a woman on match.com and I think match.com is one of the worst dating sites on the planet and would never encourage anyone to join it!!! I have had real emails from yahoo but I recently got a fake one from a so called russian women. I will never join match.com ever again!!! MATCH.COM SUCKS!!!

Match is the equivalent of organized crime in the dating world. Did anyone also notice Match mysteriously eliminating the IM feature of their service a couple of years ago. I was a paying member at the time they got rid of it, and I called the customer service line the day it happened, just to get an explanation. The customer service girl, basically, flat-out lied and said they "temporarily" disabled it for updates, and that it should be back on soon. So one week goes by, then two, then finally a month goes by, and still no IM. Every time I called them, they would come up with a different and lame-ass excuse. Yet they had the kahunas to keep subscription prices the same, meanwhile eliminating more important options and adding a couple of bullcrap options. Well, months later I saw a CNN report that investigated the pros and cons of internet dating, and they said these dating sites discovered that people were "connecting, and meeting" easier and better when they had access to Instant Message. Translation:IM=NO PROFIT... So in other words, if they kept these "suckers"(as they probably refer to us as)off the Instant Message, and force them to chase each other with Winks(phantom and otherwise) and emails, it will keep us in subscriptions longer. Match also probably knew that IM would destroy their Fake Wink and Fake Email scam, since people could instantly find out if these Winkers were really interested. Seriously, the longer we stay single, the more money these sites make. Do you think they actually want people to meet and not be single? That'd be like a divorce attorney claiming he'd rather have people stay married and never get divorced because it's tough on the kids.

The one site that is really bad is American singles. I got a reply that someone had answered my ad and when I joined I found out that it was just a wink that someone had sent to me - had no way of even accessing the message area unitl you area paid my memer - that really pissed me off lol

Nothing new there. I had that happen on match and a couple of other websites. I actually got so ticked off at one point that I sent an e-mail back to the dummy profile and requested they please stop messaging me from dummy profiles because it was really ticking off. LOL Ironically, the e-mails ceased. I just joined True and felt the same thing was going on.

It is disgusting. Why don't they just give away a few free memberships to desirable individuals and let them be 'live' bait? LOL

Now if someone does the same suit against TRUE then I would be relieved. I know I recieved winks, then asked specifically if they were sent. I never even received a response so that pretty much says it all.

Lavalife was really bad at keeping your profile online, even if you had deleted it. I deleted my profile and for months it was still showing as I was active and I was still getting messages from people.

Interesting developments

Personally Ive never used match.com so cant comment but I HAVE used Yahoo personals as a subscriber and I have to say I never had any problems so I expect that it is a relatively small number of cases (naughty none the less!). In fact Yahoo personals was the one I trusted the most and in fact had a great deal of success from (although I am single again now)

I also posted a profile on another site whos name escapes me but I did not subscribe (i didnt even put up a picture).....when I opened my hotmail email box on a daily basis it would tell me that "xxxxxxx has flirted with you" ......I would get about 3 a day from all over the world!! I suspect something underhand is going on here, it is possibly common in many personals sites!

It doesn't surprise me any. I got a wink just about 3 days before my subscription was about to expire. I have seen some profiles that I do not believe are real. Course I had that feeling before I subscribed so no, I don't want my money back. I'll just stop using the site.

WOW they do all of that? You should get revenge. Make them change their ways, that would be sweet. Then the rest of us men will be able to sleep easy knowing that we'll be able to get an email from some woman we've never seen in person yet! Its not like real women aren't out there for us to talk to. Best way to know if a woman is actually interested isn't from an online "wink", or an online "smile". You can only find out by talking to her. You'll always find out if she is interested, she'll let you know. Anyway, if anything you should fight over the fact that men have to pay at these websites while women have it free.

Thats correct, makes you wonder when you message a cpl times then, "poof they are gone". Wonder if employees of the site are doing that long enough to get you to subscribe. I know that I personally have spent a number of dollars on different sites. Gets quite expensive!

Thanks for posting this I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. I have dated some people from those sites and the guys all said the same thing and of course they were getting the Russian connection as well, I didn't think anything of it but am glad POF is around. I must admit to being curious as to how you do it (being free) that is?

Thanks again and thanks for the service. PS would have loved to go to the Dec 3rd party but I have a Gala that evening lol! Next one in Windsor I will definitely attend. Lilly Kazzilly's is a nice venue - we had a party for our association members out there and they provided the hors d'oeuvres free of charge - we supplied the DJ. Great time was had by all.

Have a great day!

I have been a member of both yahoo and match.com personals, and while I have yet to experience the things the suit is describing, I do know that both sites will and do block outgoing email to other members without notifying you that they are doing so, which I find to be every underhanded and deceptive, considering they are both pay sites, and that no real mention is made of the fact that they do this in their user terms when you join.

While I didn't consider the potential liability for the perpitrator, I was aware that this was being done. I think it is MUCH more common that might be suspected.

There is something else that disturbs me in regards to just about all of these dating sites..whether they be pay or free....and that is the seeming proliference of the geographical, age, and picture misrepresentation by fraudulent members, and attempts to scam money from other members....on some of these sites, I am literally inundated with emails from members whose profiles state that they reside in the USA,but after you read their email to you, you find that indeed they reside in another country altogether, and many of them profess undying love and interest right off the bat, in order to gain one's confidence, which as most of us know, just is not the real world...LOL....and then the requests for money will begin. I feel dating sites should be doing MUCH more to screen their members before profile placement is granted,up to and including verification though credit card indentification in order to verify geographical location. It would be very easy for an inexperinced dating site user to be sucked in by one of these pieces of human detritus, and to be scammed for money....luckily my inherant sense of radar and my good common sense has steered me away from ever having been a victim, but I do worry and feel for the uninitiated and uninformed.....for all of you punters and newbies out there......sites to be very aware of are webdate.com.....matchdoctor.com...matchmaker.com....yahoo.com....bookofmatches.com.....and match.com, although the incidence of occurance on the match.com site seems to be much lower then on the others I have just mentioned, which are literally loaded with this human scum...

I will say that the POF site is one of the most vigilant sites in being a watchdog and keeping this garbage off of their site, and my hat goes off to the site for doing so....kudos to you guys...and the best part of using POF?? It's free!
