| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/20/2005 8:36:41 AM | without a doubt many more besides these two are doing that i could name 10 give or take a couple that send you fake interested emails or winks to get u to join or renew then they are nowhere to be found after sign up. and that is not to mention sights with cam ability they are notorious for such acts. its an evil world out there and these women get paid to show interest in you only to dissappear after you have been scammed into joining. what a mystery. i thank the creator of POF and one other totally free dating sight that i wont mention. much appreciated. be safe and take care. luvtung | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/20/2005 8:42:16 AM | I have found that it is not only Yahoo Personals and Match.com that do this type of thing but so does Americansingles.com and any other singles website that is either owned or associated with them as well. On Americansingles.com they will send you an email saying that someone of a certain username has shown interest in you or sent you a message and when you go to their website and try to access it even if this so called user is a paying member or not, you can't read it unless you pay for a subscription, especially if you are only a free member and have a free membership and this to me is disgusting and shouldn't be allowed because it is preying on the singles who are lonely and want to meet someone special and can't afford to pay for a subscription. It also why I never had a paid membership on their website after seeing what they were up to and why even if I could afford a paid membership, I wouldn't want one, not on that singles website!
As far as I am concerned, I think that Americansingles.com should be lumped in with Yahoo Personals and Match.com, together in a law suit because I think that it is totally unfair and cruel to prey on the singles who are lonely and looking for someone special in their lives and can't afford paid memberships on singles websites, in my opinion. I am very glad to see that there are singles websites like Plentyoffish.com who are free as far as membership is concerned because it gives singles who are lonely and can't afford paid memberships a chance to meet someone special in their lives and be happy plus they don't try to take advantage of these types of people as well.
I only wish that there were more singles websites like Plentyoffish.com, it makes visiting the Internet a pleasant experience, in my opinion!

They send you an email that says, Look who has viewed your profile! when you open it , it send an email to everyone posted that you saw there profile & they send you an email asking, How did you like my profile? most of the time it is a profile that you would never check out!

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/20/2005 8:59:22 AM | gandalf3200 - EXCELLENT idea to contact your state's attorney general! Let's ALL do that! I feel foolish for subscribing. I, too, have had money I couldn't get back from True.com and had a couple people get real interested in me when it was time to renew with Match.com and POOF! they were gone. I will NEVER again subscribe to another pay site! I originally did it because I live in a small town and am not into the bar scene and, basically I'm a very shy person. This has been very enlightening and the more I think about it, it really hacks me off! | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/20/2005 9:05:01 AM | | E HARMONY is the total rip off. During your 7 day free you get all kinds of matches. As soon as you sign up, maybe one a month and they are long distance and much older. They also email you constantly offering you specials to come back, including sending you many profiles again. DO NOT FALL FOR EHARMONY SCAM | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/20/2005 9:09:09 AM | "Whenever there's MONEY involved [online], you can count on a scam." I usually tell people about the same thing; If you're paying for something on the Internet and you don't get a physical product from it that you can hold in your hand, it's a scam 99% of the time. I should have stuck to my words of wisdom instead of trying Yahoo for a month after someone emailed me. I signed up to email back, reasoning that it was simply an expensive way to try a blind date. Well either my response wasn't interesting, they got involved with someone else before I emailed back, or the person was a shill for Yahoo because they never responded. If there's a class action website where people can find out how to be compensated when Yahoo settles out of court, could someone please post it? Thanks. | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/20/2005 9:09:33 AM | | No, women get hit on for money too! Actually I have had two men from Yahoo and one from Match.com approach me for money. One actually send me a $34,000 fraudulent check. So at some point I will be a witness for the prosecution when they catch up to them. Fortunately for me I escaped unharmed, except my dignity. So now I have put in my ad, I'm nobody's Surgar Mama or mother, and don't expect me to financially take care of you. I live and learn. The one with the check actually had three different profiles. Each time I wrote Yahoo and informed them of his scams--I'm not sure if he continues to ply his trade. What happens if you become the victim? You become responsible for the money you transfer for them, or end up being prosecuted. BEWARE OF MEN OR WOMEN ASKING YOU FOR HELP TRANSFERING MONEY TO A FOREIGN COUNTRY. AND IF SOMEONE HAS DONE THIS TO YOU CONTACT THE INSTITUTION (BANK) WHERE IT CAME FROM AND GIVE THEM ALL THE INFORMATION SO THEY CAN PROSECUTE. | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/20/2005 9:13:24 AM | My two cent's worth is this: I did use YahPers more than a few times, and it did seem that JUST after I cancelled the subscription the matches were different (ie, more than a few profiles I'd never seen) and I did get several emails/winks.
Initially, this wouldn't seem altogether unusual, who can predict when people decide to date, email you, not email you, so on.
But it's too easy to manipulate the database they use.
For example, you can search for people like myself. I'd go on for a one or two months at a time, let it ride for a few months and try again.
Using this information and identifyng the right profiles, you can "bait" people into signing up again just to answer an email or two. Heck, it's only $20, or whatever they charge. No biggie to you, right?
Well, multiply that by thousands.
High stakes fishing tournament is what we got!
So, let's jam a class action up their biscuit. One voice won't produce a whisper, but many can roar with might!
Or, not for nothing, we can always get together, drive by their house and egg it. I'm in......

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/20/2005 9:21:07 AM | Not surprised at all. The experience I had of Match Com is that of deceit and lies. They are so uptight about profiles and photos but messages were mostly directed and seemed to grow in numbers at the end of subscription. I quit with a fracas! | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/20/2005 9:38:36 AM | Now I am beginning to wonder about something. I chatted with a guy from Yahoo for a while. He said he was from New York but was in Africa for his work. He spent alot of time in Africa. Well he sent me flowers for my birthday and then the next day asked me for bank account info so one of his "clients" could pay him. Said he couldn't access the money in his own account from Africa. After I mentioned that I knew about the Nigerian scams, I never heard from him again. I turned him and all info he ever gave me over to the FBI for investigation.
Then I started chatting with a guy that contacted ME through Match. On his profile, it said he was divorced and that he liked a career in helping people with disabilities. He suppposedly made $100,000 to $150,000 a year. But when we started IM'ing each other, he said he was widowed. His career was self-employed in marketing and he was in Africa right at the moment. He wanted to meet me so badly that he asked me to front him some money until he got back to the states and would reimburse me. Of course I said no way. But he was ready to "pack up all his things in Massachusettes" and move close to me to be married to me soon. All this without even meeting me. Maybe this guy took ownership of the account that I saw and liked on Match??? The picture showed a white guy, but in talking to him on the phone (from Africa no less), he sounded like a foreigner. I reported that one to Match.com but only received an automated reply that they had received my complaint and were aware of the allegations. I am a very distrusting person of dating sites now because of both incidences. I refuse to talk to anyone out of the state of Indiana now that I cannot comfortable drive the distance to meet him. And yes, I have had people "interested" in me only to have them suddenly quit talking to me after about 2-3 replys. I couldn't figure out what I said to make them change their minds. I guess maybe it wasn't me after all?????!!!!!!!!

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/20/2005 9:51:30 AM | Yeah, Dave11, I've had problems with True.com as well...Same thing..People supposedly sending winks but really having no interest in contacting me. I've found 2 sites that I trust, here at PoF, and Matchdoctor.com. I've only had one problem here...There was a girl that was trying to scam money out of people that I met here on PoF, and when I didn't give any to her, somehow, she hacked my profile and now it is totally un-useable....I can log in fine with another ID, but when I try to use the old one, I get a browser unable to entter site error. Never can tell about some peoples' kids, I guess... Jonathan | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/20/2005 9:59:41 AM | | I did that too, I tried for the full week prior to my credit card being automatically charged again. I was right I got charged, it took me a couple of days of calling on the phone to get them to refund my charge. | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/20/2005 10:09:19 AM | I have tried several pay sites over the years. The main problem I had is they would edit my profile because I don't fit into the "image" they have for members of "their" sites.
Never had this problem with PoF, Matchdoctor, ect. I don't mean profanity either. The good thing is, I have never paid a dime for an online personal.

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/20/2005 10:24:34 AM | I have had the same thing happen to me with yahoo and match.com.
I don't profess to be the smartest person, but all blondes are not dumb, and add a Southern Belle to this, LOL.
All joking aside from what my profile states they send me these men that I would bolt my door at 5:00.
My profile on matchdoctor plainly states do not write me about sex...what do I get jus a few minutes ago....."there's something wrong with you, go away. I write if I wanted sex it would not be from you. Why worry about something that is always been available. Duh!
Yahoo, Match.com, and Lord forbid Dreamcupid.com. You get mail like the junk mail about money? I have requested several times for my profile to be removed.
I would like to keep up with this and hope maybe to meet a friend along the way.

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/20/2005 10:52:48 AM | My goodness.. I have been reading through all the posts on this thread and have not quite finished them all, but need to put my 2 cents in now. I have had a profile on match.com and yahoo for years... and a month ago decided to join match to see how it REALLY works. I have made a couple of contacts but definitely agree that they are only out for money and are scamming to sucker more and more people in. When my 3 month membership is up, I will be making sure that I clear all pics and change the info... maybe even forward the e-mails to their support site as one POF member suggested. Then make my request to remove profile and account so as not to be used as bait. I will also be contacting my credit card company by letter informing them of the completion of my agreement and that I am canceling the membership so as to avoid further charges. IN THE MEANTIME... since I am a member.... I fully intend to gather as much evidence of their manipulative tactics as possible.
Hummm... what are the chances that their employees are monitoring this thread... ya think?
I love POF! | |

| Has anyone else had this issue with TRUE.com? Posted: 11/20/2005 10:58:50 AM | | This is also true with Yahoo personals: The last time I agreed to subscribe to their personals they stated you cannot cancel ONLINE: you MUST write to them at their 7 day cancellation Office and it must reach them before the 7 days (which is suppose to be a free trial period) and if the mail does not reach them in time, you will be billed on your credit card automatically. And who knows how long the mail will take to reach them at any give time? If you live in NY and their office is in CA it could take that long especially during holidays. | |

| Class action against Yahoo Personals and Match.com for fraud Posted: 11/20/2005 11:05:36 AM | Hey Guys and Gals, sure sounds a little 'fishy' with yahoo and match personal sites, but I would like you all to know that not ALL pay sites are bad. I have had great experiences with Lavalife.com for many years too, way back when it was called web personals, I know this site is no scam because I still communicate with people I have contacted after sending smiles, or visa versa, through my MSN hotmail, and the past two relationships I have had, were 3 years and 2 years, both met from lavalife, and paid for credits to contact each other... POF is a great website, but I feel the big difference between a paysite like Lavalife and POF is that on these paysites when someone contacts you they are really interested, hence using their money, not just a quick 'hey whats up' emails from people you would never be interested in or make contact first, basically incompatible. There are always going to be instances when you 'smile' or 'wink' back and forth, and after sending an email or two, you (or the other) feels there just isnt that much in common or not interested anymore, that doesnt mean there is a scam going on. I honestly feel these lawsuits will go no where, I agree sucks to be 'playing' with people's feelings, but honestly ask your self this question, have you ever been contacted by someone you were really not interested in and send a courtesy email back saying hi, and than just left it alone....? Or on the other hand contacted someone you jsut thought 'wow this woman (guy) is amazing' and than the dissapointment when they dont reply....? Thats just the name of the game folks! Bottom line is I dont know if these people filing these calss action lawsuits, are just broken hearted, or if there really is some 'fishy' business going on with fake 'winks' ect, even if there was though, its the customers choice to buy the credits and respond back, own free will! Oh and finally, dont be hating ALL paysites! Lavalife kicks butt! Even with a great site like POF I still purchase credits on Lavalife and contact/ chat with people, call me stupid, but look for yourself, and see the difference! J | |
