Posted: 6/25/2007 6:57:04 AM | Since it is only believers who have hell as a deterrent for their sins, what is the point of telling non-believers they will be going to hell for not believing?
-perhaps it is the strong conviction of the reality of this eternal punishment which is the motivating factor as believers see it as affecting the eternal spirits and future of men and women alike.
Is it even possible for someone to believe that they are going to be going to hell? Or does hell only exist as a place you were going before you found (insert favorite here)?
-yes, quite possible. I have heard many personal testimonies of those who did not believe given a vision of such a place that ultimately and subsequently did cause them to believe. | |

He also said Heaven is within us. So is hell.
We create our own reality.
Life is eternal for all. It's what we make of it, what we believe, our perceptions and attitudes that count.
I remember my mother telling me of her deceased father saying to her mother,
"it's just like i thought it would be." He didn't seem too happy, just as in life.
So be careful what you believe. You may just get it.
You can believe in God, but not believe in hell. if you study the Bible, and learn h ow it was written, by whom, how long after the events took place, from hearsay, what was deleted, hidden, the beliefs of that time, you'd think again. The writers of the Bible had their own beliefs and limited minds. They could hardly be expected to see things any differently.
Really, if God is love, would he condemn his children to misery? instruct to kill his own creations? even most humans wouldn't do that.
No, we always have choices and there are many paths to God. Judgment, fear, guilt are tools used to gain control.

Well, I guess 'ol Jesus didn't know what He was talking about even though He spoke more about a literal Hell than any other topic. You can find out more about the eternalness of such a place in the last book of the New Testament also written in the greek. | |

Once we do; we have like realizations. And that we picked our parents and situations in order to go though our experiences in order to grow as soal. | |

Posted: 6/27/2007 3:36:33 AM | If the spirit part of us is actually a little bit of God, as we are sometimes called 'sons of God', I would think that God eventually wants it back. As Jesus said, "give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and give to God what belongs to God."
Those who have near death experiences talk of possessing greatly increased awareness, a greater understanding of the workings of all things. Thus they verify as it is written "all that is hidden will be revealed." Surely we must be in Hell here already because on top of all our trials and suffering and the companionship of free roaming, temptation inspiring demons we have also been "dumbed down."
I think no matter how bad we are we remain precious to God and that we will spend what seems like an eternity redoing lifetimes and overcoming our 'beast' until we are fit to advance closer to Him. I don't think God is in any hurry for this to happen, as meanwhile we are providing entertainment. It is us who should finally understand, as waywards, what fools we are. | |

It's amazing what you can lead yourself to believe if you make no effort to understand the original text that something was written in and if you accept anachronistic versions of a text...imagining it to be presented as if you yourself were the first person ever that the message were presented to...
That of course is not not only the height of hubris, but also the height of foolishness. | |

In order for a person to believe in hell, they have to believe in the religion.
I actually know people who are christian, attend church on a regular basis and totally believe that Hell doesn't exist.
Let's say for the sake of discussion that 98% of the worlds population doesn't believe that Hell exists. Just because it's the standing popular believe doesn't actually make it a fact.
If you history buffs will recall, there was a time when the standing popular believe was that the sun revolved around earth and that the world was flat. | |

The doctrine of Hell is a shaky one, scripturally. The Greek word "Sheol" was often translated into Hell, but it was literally referring to the grave. So, some believe references to Hell are referring to death without everlasting life. Then there are the universalists, whose doctrine is that everyone will be reconciled to God.

True but useless. It is fallacious reasoning either way. What makes the existence of Hell a fact? I would have to go with "Nothing." | |

I believe that in life you can go through hell (currently living it) so I do believe there is a hell just not the fires of hell yada yada yada and all that.

Depends on your version of hell and what you consider a non-believer to not be believing in....we all have our beliefs; they just might not jive with everybody elses. :)  | |

Posted: 6/28/2007 7:47:38 PM | The point of telling someone they are going to hell is to reconcile the frustration you're feeling in seeing someone whose intelligence is apparent disagree with so much of your understanding of existence. It is a reaction to your fear that you are less aware than the person you're debating.
I think you are taking it a bit lightly not to think that God works through people, and that is what he has me here doing, as well as others, on these forums, trying to persuade you to obey the Lord. Something to think about isn't it?
That is an unsupported assumption about an invisible, untestable concept. You have no more weight in that argument than I would in saying I speak for the REAL SpongeBob Squarepants who films his show ON LOCATION. We without this delusion see the topic of our damnation being introduced insulting. "Why?" Like Bright1Raziel said, it's calling us bad. But also you are using my valuable conversation and post-reading time to spout unsupportable fantasy. Please provide proof or stop wasting my time. Nothing written is proof of any event. | |

But there is the issue of sin, one must confess that they are a sinner and believe on Jesus the Christ for the redemption of their sins. Hence He is the slain lamb, His blood was shed to atone for our sins. A good book to read is " 23 mins in hell" by Bill Weiss. You, see we were created with the heart of God and it was His desire that we freely love Him and have intimate relationship with Him. Hence our true home is the garden, but we chose sin. We can not stand before God with sin, and so hence Jesus through a blood convant paid the price that brings us back into relationship. So with out recieving Jesus who paid for our sin will land you in HELL, which by the way is in the centre of the earth and then after the final judgement is the lake of fire. | |

I really don't believe in Hell.
I believe in an afterlife however,
and if I am right when I die the only difference
between me and someone else will be that I am not surprised.
But there is no punishment for good people that decided to go with another
faith. We can hang, it's cool. | |
