Had a Grandparent that had a lodge Icon tat on his arm, boy when he was 80 or so all it became was a wrinkled ink blur. Some of these things are for life. | |

Posted: 11/24/2005 6:20:25 AM | ^^^Ink back in the day of our grandparents was atrocious. The inks today are lasting much longer. While a tattoo will not be as attractive in the latter years as it wsa throughout the majority of ones life, they'll never be as bad as our grandparents' were.
In addition to this, there is always the option of getting the tat redone when it starts to age. However, by the time this starts becoming a necessity, most old folks won't care. | |

What I don't understand is people who get them to be unique and then they get the same old tattoos (stencil out of the book) and general piercings as everyone else. I admire people who design their own tattoos and come up with their own piercings - and the jewelry for them. | |

So why cant someone who is not as pretty of handsome get tattoos or piercings jsut cause they dont look like the ideal person? To alot of people tattoos are NOT A FAD! To alot of people who are beautiful who get them...they are, so usually those are the people who should never get them for they will regret them later on cause they got them as an "in" thing and not caues they truly loved being a walking piece of art. | |

Posted: 11/24/2005 8:03:38 AM | I have 6 tattoos presently and intend to get a total of 12 to complete my theme. They are all tasteful, have special meaning (only to me) and are in places I can hide. (I generally work in an office-type environment in which they are not permitted, ergo, no one knows I have them unless I purposely show them).
My tattoos are only for me...whether someone else likes them or not, is not terribly relevant. I decided on my theme (after many years of deliberation), I designed all but one of them, I chose where I wanted them done...the only part I didn't actually do was the tattooing itself.
I generally like body art, providing it has personal meaning to the individual wearing it, wasn't done for juvenile reasons (rebellion etc.) and isn't a stereotype. For example, every third woman has a rose on her butt...no thanks. But I really try to take it on a case by case basis...
Although really, we all have our shallow parts and I understand that some people find tattoos really repulsive. I disagree, but I support your right to feel that way. If we're honest, we all have at least one physical trait we have issues with. I won't date men shorter than I am, you won't date women with tattoos...to each his/her own. | |

I have 3 tattoos and have my ears and nose pierced.. not cause i'm trying to look beautiful.. who ever says they have tattoos and piercings in order to look beautiful in my opinion is an idiot... lets face it society frowns down upon people who are different... wearing a piercing on your face or noticable tattoo makes you different.. it has nothing to do with beauty..
my piercing and tattoos are a personal choice.. I didn't do them to have men oggle me as a matter of fact most men don't like them.. but its an expression of who I am .. and I consider it a form of art.. the tattoo itself is beautiful to me.. has nothing to do with making me appear better..if i wanted to be beautiful according to societies standards..I'd stick my finger down my throat every time I eat and puke myself down to 90lbs... then maybe i'd be acceptable in the main stream world.. | |

Although I really do not like them now...I have to live with them. I would still like to get some *real* tats and laser these off, it will take a lot of time and even more money...!
As for the piercings? I have my tongue pierced, my nose has a tiny one and I have 6 holes in one ear, 5 in the other. I like them and they do not make me look bad, at least I do not think so.
I hate being judged though, by men...putting me in the catagory or *easy, or biker chick - ish*.. because that is not who I am at all. | |

Posted: 11/24/2005 10:25:33 AM | | Amen, sister. Body art, style of clothing, make-up, hair, etc...should be about pleasing ourselves and not because it is "what a man wants" or what society expects. It is not about rebellion, or trying to be "different". It is a sense of individualism. I personally could care less if a man or society finds me attractive based upon what ink or jewelry I wear. More women (and girls...we must teach our girls) need to realize that beauty is about being ourselves and being accepted for ourselves, and not about trying to look like a fashion model...By the way, fashion models have tattoos and piercings too. | |

At least when my mood changes I can change shirts and shut up! No laser surgery required.  | |

I do believe that piercings and tattoos are a form of expression. I do not regret my tattoos. I thought about what I wanted to get and where for over 5 years before I got them. Tattoos to me are a form of art and dealing with life . No, I don't want anymore tattoos right now, and wouldn't want to be a walking tattoo, but I'm just saying that there are very nice people out there that you would NEVER think of having tattoos. I like guys with a couple of tattoos too. If they have none, that's fine too. I can't judge a person on what they want to do with their body. It's their body and they can do what they want with it! | |

I think if a man judged me because of little pieces of metal in my body, Id rather not get to know him in the first place.
But yes each to theyre own, same as some females like lots of make, some dont like any. some men have lots of tatts, some dont like them.
Live and let live huh ..
And the men who say that a fem is trashy is being a bit harsh, at least I can take my piercings out and make myself look less " trashy", some people cant change the way they look .. get my drift

Posted: 11/29/2005 11:52:36 AM | Well i got two tattoo's....lower back and left arm. I wouldnt get anymore. But i dont see anything wrong with a couple tattoo's and if they are good ones. Never would i do anything to mine face or any other part of my body.
