Absolutely... there was this guy who used to come into the pharmacy where I was working back then, and I had such a crush on him... my not doing something about it had nothing to do with his handicap, but more my incredible shyness... now I have met someone on here who is in a wheelchair... unfortunately I am afraid they aren't ready to date and so nothing will happen... but one can always dream lol...

I dated this one girl who was deaf, and she was so ungodly attractive it's not even possible! It was possible though, and she was great. I was young when I dated her and I ended the relationship because I simply had no idea what I was looking for. She's the one I let get away. I regret that.

What does a person consider being handicap? Now truth time ! I have MS multiple sclerosis, and I dont consider my self handicap,,nor disabled. When it comes to a man wanting to date me or even meet me,,well he will know right up front about my illness. Then it is all in his hands,.his call. My ex said a very good and true comment to me once,,He had little confidence about himself and asked me why I would want a man like him because he did not think alot of his looks. I said to him you are beautiful! you have a kind heart and so giving. But then afterwards he said,,well I guess if you only go by looks,,,just one car accident and thats all she wrote. So how true it is! If we only love someone because of looks , money and material things,,then what happens if one moment can take it all away????? My point is this,,we all are different and challenged in some way,,but the heart is the most important. But I am not so ignorant of the fact that we all begin with a pyhsical attraction,,however if it is the only thing keeping you in a relationship it will never last. When or if ,,down the road something may take it all away,,in the end all that is left is the heart. Or is it??????? So dont be so shallow! Although I can not blame a person for not wanting to be involved with someone who is less then perfect,,,I can say this. It may be you someday who will walk in their shoes. A s for me ,,I have never had a man refuse to meet me or date me because of my illness. I like who I am and I do have MS but it does not have me!!!!!!!!!!!

I have first dated then lived with a man whom is handicaped. There was nothing wrong with this man in my eyes, as I fell in love with him, now we are not together anymore. If I had went out with him as a favour it would of seemed I did it out of pity. That is one hell of a cruel thing to to do to a person. He was bon that way and was not his fault, he has everyright to live and feels loved like everyone else does.

I agree and he and anyone like him sure does have the right to live like anyone else and feel loved and be loved too.

Absolutely. Mentally handicapped is something that takes a special gift to deal with. Physical handicaps are completely overshadowed by the true personality of the person cursed with them. If you're shallow enough to not want to date an awesome person because they're not physically perfect, well, then you're probably going to spend the rest of your life nitpicking away your chance at happiness.

That would be great to have a totally deaf woman, because you could fart whenever you wanted to.

Ah veedub, the vibrations darling, they would give you away!

Q: Why do farts smell?

A: So deaf people can enjoy them also!

not all people who are handicapped are handicapped just as
not all people who say they are normal are normal
so it works both ways..............

all one can do in life is make best with what one knows
how to do in life.......

Jesus Christ himself had no physical beauty

p.s. some handicapped people do get healed
and so does even some so called normal people.......

the topic question is so general is ridiculous.. the term handicapped can be as small as a deformed hand or as severe as a paraplegic (sp?)

and yet to these people, they may not even use those terms to describe themselves

ie: im hearing impaired and havent used that term since i was a kid when believe it or not some still used to say deaf, dumb and mute! I'm hearing impaired and the only struggle is it may affect communication within the relationship. My partners just need to more considerate .......and speakkkkkkkkkkkkkk slowly (kidding).

my point is... everyone has something that can affect a relationship, its up to you whether you're willing to make an adaption in consideration of it.

Speaking as a paraplegic (that comment as severe as a paraplegic just slays me) I can attest to the fact that most people are scared of the wheelchair simply due to ignorance. They can only focus on what I cannot due as to what I can still do. I was on dating websites prior to my accident 3 years ago and was deluged with mail. It is a very different story now. Despite having this clearly spelled out at the beginning of my profile, I still get mail from men who are responding only to a pic. They cannot wait to beat a path to my door. When I inform them of the detail they failed to read, it is almost comical to watch them trip and fall as they have both feet in their mouth. Although a lot of people here have said they would date a person with a handicap, the reality of it is they cave in to their fears.

Oh yes! That’s often the truth here and other places.

Well, I’m out of the chair now, but still bent sometimes. But, I do the physical therapy things and exercises every day. Why? Simply because I want to be very good for someone I love someday. In my mind, my job now is to insure that I do as best as I can with my body to keep everything working properly. Shouldn’t we all?

Ha, I had a “date” once who said she can walk, when I wanted to drop her off at a theater entrance. She lied, couldn’t make it, so I carried her. Interesting how quick people respond with a chair when a guy carries a woman in to a theater. LOL

Did I not go out with her again because she had a psychical problem? Nope. She wasn’t being true with me (I had already guessed the problem, and thought that I would accept that) and I was was pissed cause she deceived me. She knew better.

And, when we talked later, she said, (So what!).

littlelady.. my apoligies.. i looked it up .. thought it meant full body paralysis where it is actually only lower body.

My term severe was only in comparison to a deformed hand not that it actually is severe. Also, its in no way descriptive to a person's personality or capablity to love.

My point was that the way a person views one's "handicap"' could be totally different from what that person feels about him/herself as which you just proved. Some may look at you and say.. wow, shes handicapped yet you yourself may say no, im just in a wheelchair. Big deal!

see my point?

Sure, if I loved her it wouldnt matter and I'd be happy to be there for her. I've had enough female mental cases in my life, I might even luck out that way, actually.

I would date them. I would not look at him being handicaped. I would look at the man. Looks are not everything. I would go with my heart. If the love is in your heart. It should not matter. Alot of people now days. Are looking for looks. You can have a man with no arms or legs. And could be the best thing that ever happened to you. So why just look at the outside.

little lady I was going to post something entirely different but I wanted to say I as well like whitetigeress thought it was full body. My mistake as my dear freind of 35 years or more is also from the waist down unable to move due to being shot in the back. I was in love with her as I had stated in a proir post and would have most likely have married the woman had she just told me how she felt at the time. Took her 35 years to tell me and a lot of time had passed. not to mention a lot of different ladies as well. when a person thinks that one does not care or feel the same then the only recourse is to back up and get over it and hope that it heals and time does help even if it takes years in the doing. The wheel chair had nothing to do with how I felt for this woman and I still care for her. matter of fact since my last post I have called and talked to her. had not the time removed the deep feelings I had for this woman I would have most likely have went to NY where she is at before she had found the guy she wound up getting married to. She wanted me to make the trip but things were not right to make the trip at that time but friendship is still deep. Her wheel chair isn't and has never been a factor to me as it would not be for any woman in the same situation if I had feeling for her. I know all to well that a woman or man that is handicapped is only so if they choose to be that way. a former POF member who brought me to POF was handicapped in the since of the term but was by far a long ways from being so. There are those that know her and have spoke to her. She quit POF after she found the guy that set her world in a whirl and I am proud to call him a great guy. she runs her own business from home and she works harder than most people I know. I went and read your profile and I was glad I did it gave me a higher regard for you in that you have done what most people I know as handicapped have done. If I wore a hat I would tip it to you but I don't like to wear them on my bald head. so I just will say its an honor to tell you. if people would take the time to really understand someone that is handicapped then they would have a better understanding of what they go through. then there may not be threads that ask questions like these and it would be a far better place on this earth. dating a handicapped is not a problem to me in any means of the words.
