Ok so yesterday there was some posts about a site where people rate their pof dates. Some pretty disgusting stuff said about some people with their pics on the other site as well. So I messaged the people on pof to let them know that they are on there. Well 2 people responded very rudely back to me, a few others thanked me and had their pics removed. My point is that when someone takes initiative and does something for you receive gracefully. I was very offended by particularely one persons remarks in their message.

Xmas night I took my son out, he wanted to get a 'slushie'.... driving all thru town to try and find a blinkin store open to get this drink.... we finally found one... and when I pulled up I noticed a lonley older gal huddled in a beat up blanket against the wall... when I came out of the store, she asked for spare change.... I told her I didnt have any and walked to my truck.

Something in her sad eyes got to me..... I turned my truck around, told my son to roll down his window and I dug into my change purse and gave her what I had..... the smile and thank you from her was so worth it. We wished each other a merry christmas and I drove off feeling good about what I'd done.

The simple things........:)

Today I helped my neighbor take her garbage out, and overpaid my hairdresser, for no other reason except and she's young and could really use it.

Ahhhhhh does a body good!

I gave a lady my coffee...after she sat down beside me on the patio of starbucks on Granville.

She smelt like serious colon (or was it urine) and I was too grossed out to drink it.

I don't know if that counts as a good deed or not.

I believe NRK was looking for this...the immortal Smelt colon thread.

I revived it at New Years so we could all have a smile, but it died quickly.

i do one everday i have a person come to my work everyday and search throught he dumpster for bottles so i bring him some everyday and now have my co workers do the same.my boss collects them from the lunchroom and at least when he gets to our shop he gets a fiver everyday. i think that if i do one everyday in the end when it comes time for judgement day that the good will outweigh the bad.we as a society i believe should help the people who need it.at christmas i was going to my company function and someone asked me for some change all i had was bills so i gave him a ten spot and told him to try to get something to eat with it he looked at me in disbelief that someone would give a little more and it really does make me feel good to do it

Smelt Colon

I love this thread for 2 reasons: 'smelt colon' is just Damn funny, and it is really cool to hear about kindness and nice things ppl are doing out there. I felt all warm and fuzzy reading about how good people can be.
I would prefer to keep a thread like this alive and allow the whining ones to float into cyber-nowhere, personally.
My contribution: i worked an extra nightshift to help out a couple new employees. sucks to work shorthanded anyhow, but shorthanded AND inexperienced? ug. not Really a good deed though, cause I DID get paid ot. :P

I am a foster mom with VOKRA (Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association) and the kitties I have this time around that are waiting to be adopted got nervous when in a new home and get the runs. I tell ya, I've always loved wooden floors, it's the first time I've lived in a place that didn't have wall-to-wall carpeting. Well, you know what it's like in the middle of the night when you gotta go pee and keep the lights off so I don't altogether wake up. Well, I slipped on something wet ... my kitties are long haired babies and when they get the runs they drag their little asses across the floor to clean it (their rear, that is). Not only did I have to hop after stepping into this stuff so I don't spread it any further on my foot or the floor, my sense of smell was alert and violated. I was blinded having to turn the lights on and getting into the tub. Then having to wait a whole minute before the hot water came on to wash my foot at 3:30 a.m. while gagging. Yes I was wide awake. However, when I turned to look at them (like Carrie in the horror flick looked after the pig blood was spilled on her), there they sat with innocent little green eyes blinking away in the only lit room in the place while they were looking up at me watching what I was doing, just sitting in the bathroom doorway with a quick little sweet meow when our eyes met waiting for me - I just melted - hoping they didn't get any slivers.

Built a extra bedroom in my house so a good friend of mine could have a free place to stay until she found a job. And am only going to charge rent when she finds work.

I did what I do most every weekend.

Go down to the local SPCA and spend some time walking and playing with the abused, neglected and homeless dogs. Spend time with the cats also, giving them the attention that they all love so much.

I waltzed out of the shower with no clothes on and my blinds open to give the people driving by a free show.

Does that count?

My good deed? I turned off my phone because I'm sick with a rotten cold and headache, and decided it was better for any who called not to speak with me. No one needs to go through that because I'm being a wimp.

Except I also had to break plans because of it which upsets me. I hate being sick.

Heres my good deed....

2 yrs ago I rendered First Aid to a senior lady that took a swan dive on a bus. I suppose I cold be all full of myself and be proud of how I handled the situation, but these type of incidents come up often for some weird reason or perhaps I'm just always seeming to be the one that looks around and realizes noone else is gonna step up to the plate and so I do.

Anyway back to my story, which was long forgotten until yesterday when I was served with a subpeona to appear in Supreme Court as a primary witness. (woman now sueing coast mountain/bus driver for a tidy sum)

Bottom line: I help whenever and wherever I can but I admit that it kinda makes me cranky that out of a good deed I will now lose 2 days pay and likely take a beating from the prosecuting attorney for just helping someone in need...

A bit of a downer for a happy thread-sorry!

There is a woman who lives in a care facility on my side of town.. her legs are amputated up to her mid thighs ~ she sits in her wheelchair covered by a blanket or quilt and watches the traffic go by every single day.. rain or shine ~ no matter how cold or hot.. she's there.

One day.. last spring I bought her a bouquet of beautiful bright colored tulips.. and approached her... intoduced myself and told her that I think she is so beautiful.. and how I notice her each time I drive down this particular street.

I gave her the bouquet .. and she held them up to her nose and said they smell like spring.. so sweet..
She looked at me ~ her icy blue eyes filled with tears.. and reached for me with a trembling hand... she told me her name and thanked me for the flowers. We spoke for a while..had a nice little chat, and I made a point of beeping and waving at her each time I drove by and saw her out enjoying her world..as she knows it.

I am a floral designer.. with my own business ~ and when I have some flowers to spare, I make sure to go by and spend a little time with Lillian.. and make her day a little brighter.
It makes me feel good to do nice things for others... it makes my heart warm..and my spirits soar high to know I've made a difference.. even a small one ~ to someone else that you share the world with.

Im not sure if you would consider it an act of kindness or good deed, but one day I was drivin and I saw a woman walkin with her 2 children. One was in a stroller, one holding her hand. I passed and glanced in the rear veiw mirror when I saw a Rottweiler race accross the street towards the woman and children.
I slowed down and noticed her sheilding her children with her arms as the dog was biting at her arms and slamming his body against her. I stopped my truck right there and ran accross the street. I grabbed the growling dog by its collar and yelled "NO" at it!! I am not even sure how I got the strength to haul the persistant dog accross the street and back to its yard!

I noticed the owner just standing on his step shakin a dog food bowl like an idiot! the sign on his gate said " Beware of guard dog" I shoved the dog at its owner and went back accross the street. The woman was shaking and crying the dog bit her, but didnt break the skin. I took her and her kids into my truck and bought them some ice cream at the cornerstore. I dont even know to this day what her name was, I just know that little family is safe and gave her my # if she wanted to contact the SPCA. I went there myself the next day and informed them.

Good deed: Holding a door open for a little old lady that was comming up behind you (You feel it's nice to help out other people around you)

No deed: Going through the door, and ignoring the little old lady that was comming up behind you (You feel everyone is equal, and that old lady might have been insulted by you presuming their to old to open the door for themselves)

Evil Deed: Bolting through the door, then slamming it shut. Now you hold the door shut and laugh at the old lady. (your just meen spirited and think it's funny to bring yourself up at the expence of others)

that isn't a good deed,... it is called manners and a successful upbringing your parents can be proud of that they instilled a sense of decency and caring into you. I can't imagine NOT holding the door for ANYONE coming up behind you at a door no matter what their age. What irks me is when they don't say "thankyou".,.. so I always say "your welcome!!"
