I'm going to go back to the question of have you ever lost because someone left you? I did When my ex called of our weddding at the last min I lost it and felt like it was becasue of the way I looked. He swears that wasn't it but i think part of it was so I took a look in the mirror and hated what i saw. So I changed it. I've lost 100lbs and I'm SOOO much happier!!! He noticed and thats great but lots of men have noticed so thats way better. I'm thrilled that I'm still losing and I'm glad I did it for all the wrong reasons becasue it got me started. It allowed me to see my body change and now I watch what I eat and work out for me but honestly it all started when he dumped me!

@countrygirl, I'm with you on that!! If a guy first off starts wanting my picture.. wants to know what I look like... my measurements, etc. then he has already proved to me that he is way more shallow than what I'm interested in.

I am a new member to this site. I am an overweight female. I have been overweight since I was little. I started gaining weight due to medical situations. Soon after I got my tonsil taking out, it did something to my thyroid which caused me to gain weight. Not to mention I wasn't a very active child to begin with--I was born with stiff joints...probably on the borderline of having juvenile athritis. My family were always doing something while I was growing up--like going to the lake camping. We ate healthy. When I was in high school, I had to walk up 5 flights of stairs every day all day. You figured I would loose weight after 4 years of high school? Guess what I didn't. Yes, I went to the gym about 5 days a week after I graduated from high school. Yes, I did lost 50lbs, but that was it. I couldn't get past those pounds. I'm not going to the gym now, because a few years ago, I got out of the habit-- and you know it's hard to get back into it (especially when a person has ADD) -- when I got an extremely bad virus that I somehow picked up. It made me sick hard to breathe for 4 years. What ever the virus was it weaked my lungs. Now I have asthma.

What I am saying is that "beauty" is not on the skin, it is deeper than that. I didn't choose to be overweight. Part of it is due to medical reasons (like medications, and surgeries) other part is genetic. I don't know why people associate overweight people are huge eaters. That's not true. I, myself, don't like to eat. It grosses me out when I see overweight people on TV eating a buffet size meal at once. Before anybody judges on that, they need to find out the conditions. I am pretty healthy for being overweight. My BP is extremely good. All my other vital signs are good. I drink organic apple juice every night. I'm an herbal remedie freak.

I know for a fact that if some guy gets to know me on the inside, they will find out what they would have missed if they didn't give a chance. I have always been a people-friendly person.

I am not expecting anything from members. I am just giving you my 2cents in what could be the result of why some people are overweight.

Thank you Michelle ... for reminding us that weight is not always under our own control.
All we can do is try our best with proper diet and exercise ... to the extent we are physically able.
For the over-eaters, it's a matter of mind over matter. Two years ago I lost 38 lbs. and did it easily ... But, I was in the mindset to do it. And that's the extremely hard part ... getting that mind over matter. I've gained about 20 back over the last 2 years ... and am trying to lose it again.

My dates haven't complained ... because I carry the extra few pounds well and dress to flatter my assets, so the weight is not immediately apparent. But I'm sure there are plenty who would reject me because I'm "comfortably curvy" ...

I think what mens the most is what you feel in side for the person not for what is on the out side. Because that can change. The inside can stay the same

First of all... Michelle welcome to POF! like yourself my weight is due to a medical condition. Mainly my thyroid. I have had it all my life, and the majority of the medications make me sick. I eat right, and have always been an active person. Growing up my folks had me into everything! karate, swimming, kickboxing, soccer, and baseball for years. I still play volleyball in the summers, and I've taken up snowboarding in the winters. Plus I walk for 2 hours a day 4 to 5 times a week (depending on the weather in the winter). It may not help my weight, but I believe it gives me a boost, and I've never considered my weight an issue. I figure there isn't much I can do about it so I can't let it get me down. I'm a very happy person and to me that's all that matters.

I hear ya.....

I'm thick, but I have been told I have a great face...I would rather be alone than with a shallow guy who is looking for Barbie.

I think why some men always go for skinny trophies so they would look good. The men thinks they are hot studs when they have a trophy wrapped around their arms. WHo knows, they have to look good on the outside with a trophy girlfriend because they might be a dud in bed.

I am curious ladies and gents, and would appreciate a reply from both genders.

I've seen the definition used referring to a female as 'thick' - what does that mean? Thanks!

Also, my thing is those men that has to have a trophy, what will they do if their so-called trophy ends up being disfigured? Lost a limb? Can't walk anymore? Going to dump them? If so, then they didn't truely love the person in the first place. True love is when that person stays for better or for worse. No one knows what will happen to anybody in the future. That's why the inside of a person is so important.

Yes I've had this happen, actually it is happing to me right here on this sight. I weight 145 I'm 5'1" I am very voluptuous and very curvy. Large breast, smaller in the waist, very muscular legs and can run up four flights of stairs two at a time! I do this about eight times a day. Not for exersice but because I have to in order to get to my apt. lol. My 18 yr old daughter with the hot body can barely even walk up them and is completely out of breath when she reaches the top. Now that is funny to me!! I can also carry about eight bags of groceries up these stairs. I like the way I look, yes I am a few pounds over weight so I listed myself as such and I didn't get one message from the opposite sex on here. So then I thought I'd put "athletic" got about ten messages a day!! Now I plan on losing weight and definately snubbing all the guys who tried to hit on me while I was "Athletic" and wouldn't speak to me when I was a "few pounds overweight"

Why don't they add voluptuous to the list anyway, not everyone likes calling themselves a few pounds over weight especially when they are someone who is NOT out of shape by any means!!!

You must carry it well, Lisa. I'm the same height as you and weigh 115 - I'm trying to lose 10 lbs because I carry my weight below the waist and I don't fit into some of my pants.

Going back to what selena61978 said " I'm glad I did it for all the wrong reasons becasue it got me started."

I can't stand it when a boyfriend, friend, or family member says "do it for you" We usually HAVE to have a reason outside of ourselves that gives us that push!! It may be because we want to look good so we will be atractive to the opposite sex. Or because we want to look better than that skinny b**CH next door with the attitude like she is the hottest thing on the planet and has the ugliest soul on the planet. It could also be what selena said, or maybe even a put down from someone. With me I tend to go for more athletic men because I tend to jump into whatever it is that they are doing. I am very hyper and on the move. I need ways to burn my energy and what better way than to burn it off with the man I am in love with. In or out of the sack "blush".. I guess I am sort of co-dependant in that aspect.

Yes Shangrilah, I am lucky I sort of gain it all over and even thought abut becoming a body bulider at one time. I used to be into kickboxing when I was younger. I was also a cheerleader into gymnastics and lifting weights..The only thing that scared me off was the fact that most guys seemed intimidated by me. I guess they were and are afraid of a girl that could kick their butts!!! And I still can!! ha ha.. but I wouldn't I am very feminine, very much a lady
