Ladies: your take on short guys?
Posted: 4/5/2008 12:22:03 PM
I know 3 women who are head over heels in love with their short guys!! (By short I mean 5' 7" - 5' 9" ...since there are 3 specific guys I'm thinking of.) Short guys can be gorgeous in terms of body and facial features; but I've always had a thing for tall guys!! I can be friends with a shorter guy, but I couldn't date him.

5'7" to 5'9" is short now? That's the definition of average height; but you say you could be friends with one (how generous ), but never date him?

This is what I'm talking about.

You can't change anyones views, but I don't see any reason not to speak out against this sort of shallow behavior. Women do it all the time to men who exhibit shallow "preferences". Why is it wrong for men to criticize women?

A lot of average height guys are sitting back and not saying anything because they don't think of themselves as "short". They think, "so what, that these women view shorter men as inferior to taller men; I'm just glad I'm not one of them (short men)."

What these guys fail to realize is that height is a relative sliding scale....It's a bell curve. The very notion that one man who obtained his height through random chance is intrinsically better because of it than another man who obtained his height through random chance - is wrong.

Remember: first they came for the short men, and I said nothing. Then they came for the medium height men, and I said nothing. But who will speak when they come for me?

"5'7" to 5'9" is short now?"

5'9''-5'10'' is average 5'7''-5'8'' ""slightly" below average it really doesn't matter I'm willing to bet the number of the number of women that would reject a 5'7'' man isn't much higher then the number of women who would reject a 5'10'' man. It's not about just finding a guy who's tall compared to her but a man who's tall compared to other men. My cousin recieves the same amount of rejection from women as I do and he's not even short, he's 5'10'' despite being 3 inches taller women still say he's too short. Heck, at this rate in 20-30 years 6'0''-6'2'' men will be too short for women.

5'7" to 5'9" is short now?

Good Gravy!! I friggin hope not!
I'm 5'7 and really tall annoys me more than really short.
We are all allowed preferences. Preferences in my opinion do not include exclusions.. Example:
If you like tall guys fine.
If you will only date men above 6', you're a picky jerkoff.. good luck in your narrowed search.(Bearing in mind that you have every right to be so picky.. but I think it only harms you in the end)
If we keep piling on exclusions is it any wonder why you're still single?

I have found however that some shorter men have "shortman syndrome" as my friend calls it, bad attitude due to years of exclusion because of their height... It resembles the "love the inner me" whine us big girls get on when we're not chosen because of our weight.

I have not read through all this thread, as I have just come across it.

I am 6ft2.5 and a big girl. So, if I say I date 6ft and over (have dated 5ft11) am i discriminating against 'short' guys....seem I am taller than average guys. So, I must be real bad.

I am sorry, but being me means I already get looked at a lot, pointed at, commented on and have blokes feigning fear in bars....So, me with a guy a lot shorter would just add more cause for me drawing attention. I would be seen as more of a freakshow. I have some pride and don't want to always be singled out.

The predicted height i have been given for my son (his dad is 5ft11) is he will be 6ft8. My partner now is the same height as me and we are having a child...If it's a girl, well I feel a little bad, as she will go through what I do.

My point is, I do not discriminate against short guys through a problem with them. Just dating someone nearer my height is one less way of me feeling un-feminine. And to be the butt of jokes. You can call me shallow or insecure, but try being the centre of attention all through your teen years and way into adulthood. It's not fun!

Anyway, I think if the avergae woman is 5ft4 or so, then the average short guy has a lot of ladies to choose from. How tall does a short woman need her man to be? If a woman is short and needs a 6ft man, then i do not understand why. If a woman is tall and dates tall guys (like I do) then I cannot see there is a problem. My guys don't need to be pushing 7ft. Just somewhere near my height.

ha!!! good one! there a lot of cute guys who are short. i do have minium tho 5'7 and up because otherwise its kinda hard to sync up while walking together and sex gets kinda complicated at times. i'm 5'10 and do wear heels at times and as long as the guy is ok with that or it even turns him on...then game on :)

I don't like to resort to personal attacks, but annikat....you make me embarrassed to be the same gender as you are *****

I have to agree. She certainly doesn't speak for the majority of women out there.

I just noticed that even some women have criticized Annikat. It's not just the "whining" short, fat, and/or "unattractive" men.

Sharzi-- "I've gone on dates where men have told me I was fat or too big for them. Geez. Most men see me as average and have told me I was beautiful. I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder.

I agree with you about the size preference of most men. One night I had a friend over who is about 30 overweight. She was looking through all the personals and every single one she opened wanted "slim, athletic, thin, average." That leaves out most American women because I think the average woman in this country is now a size 14. Seems most men are looking for the cookie cutter woman... size 8 or less. Where does that leave the rest of us who have so much to give... can certainly lose weight... but are overlooked because of our size?

Truthfully, we're human. We're all going to have preferences... things we find attractive and things we don't. We can't make anyone find us to their liking. All we can hope for is that our imperfections are perfect for someone who we feel the same way about."

The problem is that there are too many overweight people, period. It does appear that overweight is somewhat commoner among women for some unknown reason. What is worse is their attitude of not wanting to do anything about it. It does seem that overweight men are more readily accepted than overweight women.

Eating differently, especially more fish, will help a lot. It's not how much you eat, it's what you eat that matters most.

As a 6-ft. woman who loves to wear heels, I have given the short (5'7") guy a go. We went out for a year and a half. He finally dumped me because he couldn't take the men approaching me when we were together. They always thought he was my little brother or something. (Btw, that NEVER happens with the tall men.) After that experience, I have gone on a few dates with the shorter guys but there was never any chemistry. I think it's because I really do prefer a man who is at least, 6'4" or taller. (However, my mean height tends to avg around 6'2".) Having a taller mate makes the contact much more comfortable. And grant it, I just want a man I can look up to.
There is nothing wrong with shorter men. They are sexy and masculine to look at -- but we are talking about connecting with our ideal mate. And for me, 5'11" and shorter just isn't ideal. For another women, 5'11" is just right. *shrugs shoulders*

Ahh no sorry to burst your delusion but there are just as many overweight men as there are overweight women . The reason men think there are more overweight women is that men don't see themselves as overweight . A man could have a gut as big as a woman who is 24 months pregnant and he still wont think he is overweight. In men's eyes they are husky not fat , but fat women are fat.

Oh and i like my weight as it is and no i don't want to do anything to change it.

I am something of a peoplewatcher. I am sure I'm right. You may do whatever you wish, but don't pretend your weight is 'normal'. It isn't. And it is a serious health problem in this country.

No you are not right. Look at statisics . There are just as many overweight women as their are overweight men. As for my weight normal or not i like it as it is. Anyway why are you going off on this fat women woman thing. It has nothing to do with this thread. If you want to complain about fat women then i suggest you start a new thread.

Well seeing as you are tall I feel for you. Tall women and short men both have it rotten. Yours isn't so much a prefference as it is kind of a nessessity. Your tall. There are men of all hights that can accept you being tall.. but I can understand why you woudl feel awkward dating a short or average man.

For me it is not the tall women that have the problem defining the difference of prefference over requirements, it is the average and short women.

I didn't say it but I definitely understand. I am not as tall as you are but at 6 ft. it can become more than merely a preference and doesn't mean someone is shallow because that is their aim. Thanks to the poster who shared that perspective. Tall women unite!! LOL.

I'm short one of the shortest Firefighters you will ever meet, but I don't feel short. However I am not surprised at the attitude of some men towards me when I walk into a bar, a party or a business meetings, they feel threatened by my presence, why because I am very confident in good shape and not bad looking, I know it and they know it. As far as some posters saying they feel sorry for us short guys, don't feel sorry for me, no need, I living a great life. I actually feel bad for some of you tall guys for feeling so inferior. JMO

I actually *prefer* shorter guys. At 5'7" I run into lots of guys close to my height. I find eye contact at short range a turn on. Looking at a guy's shoulder when walking/talking is not very intimate, and standing on stairs to kiss makes spontenaity more difficult

My most serious boyfriend in high school was a half inch shorter than me, and the guys in my social circle weren't that tall, so I guess I got used to it. I never learned to wear heels during that time.

Up until middle school I was always one of the tallest people in my class. I grew 5 inches in 6 months when I was 10. I was a *lot* worse in basketball after that because I had no coordination.

I'm 5'7" and was engaged to a guy who was 5'2". He tried to be athletic and show off, so I think he suffered a little bit from "short bald guy" syndrome. Black belt in Karate, and at one point had his own school, in addition to working full time in IT. After he broke up with me, he wound up marrying a woman who was 4'11".

That might have been an overreaction because the summer before I had briefly dated a 6'5" tall guy who had treated me really badly. The jerk was tall, skinny, no hair on his chest but had long black hair. So I went after the opposite next.

My height preferences might make a little sense with some of the earlier posts about women liking tall guys - that they wanted someone to take care of them, or make them feel secure. I consider myself pretty indpendent, and can take care of myself. I like chivalry of having doors held open for me, but I don't need to call a guy to let him know I got home safely.

I prefer women who are about my height for things like slow dancing. Dancing with a much shorter lady makes feel like I need to see a chiropracter the next day.

A 4'11" woman would be good for a guy who's 5'2". Women of that height seem to be found easily in the Philippines. Eleven years ago I was working at a McDonald's while in college and somehow I had gotten into an argument with a guy who was about 5'2". He said he was a black belt in karate and went down into the splits. I couldn't help but laugh. Not only was I bigger at 5'7" and 210-ish pounds, I also had had some martial arts training (2 years of tae kwon do and some aikido). I suppose it's guys like that which make women say short guys have a so-called "Napoleon Complex". And he wasn't the only co-worker I had who was about 5'2" and was like that.

That might have been an overreaction because the summer before I had briefly dated a 6'5" tall guy who had treated me really badly. The jerk was tall, skinny, no hair on his chest but had long black hair. So I went after the opposite next.

That just goes to show that a tall guy isn't always a good choice.

If a woman wants to feel secure, then buy a weapon (even a defensive one like mace or pepper spray) and learn how to use it. Find a martial art you like and commit to it. That's a great way to meet men BTW because most martial arts practitioners tend to be men. It's said that women are "the weaker sex", but obviously they haven't sparred against a woman with a black belt in a martial art. They spar harder than men!

Its all about compatibility, if a woman is on the tall side, she may want a man equal or taller. I have a few guy friends who are 5'8 or shorter and they will readily admit to being short. Every guy who has played sports knows that 5'8 or lower puts you at a disadvantage. The average height for men are 5'10 IMO since that is my height, but I do feel short playing basketball.

This is a hilerious statement.

First while I am short I can not comment on wether or not a "TALL" man feels awkward about short women...but...I can speak for myself and men in general.

Men for the most part aren't as superficiall ans they let on. We often let things slide and have more flexible boundaries. I being a big but short I am scared I would break a petite woman despite thinking they are cute, so I am attracted to taller women with a little bit of meat on them. i do not feel awkward in the least ( as some short men do feel about taller women. It goes both ways) I think that most tall men in my opinion are happy to have a hot woman on them regardless of hight. Women on the other hand are a little more subconcious than men. Though men have the more fragile ego.

I don't see any problem with women who want tall men..
I don't see any problem with men who want big breasted women either.
I have no problem with women who want only men with large cokcs.
I see nothing wrong with women who want muscular guys.
There is nothing negative to be said about people who chose their mate on purely superficial grounds.
There is nothing wrong with men who want athletic / thin women.
I don't see anything inherently wrong with a white woman who says that she only dates black men.

These are some of the things I have seen on women's profiles. Obviously the male preference is from men's profiles.

There does seem to be a problem if the person doesn't know his/her motives behind her choices. Some people do seem to be completely unaware of the WHY behind their actions. It often leads to some ugly circumstances down the road.

Moreover, there is a problem when the person complains about some aspect of the chosen partner that may have arose from the very same trait that she/he so desired.

There is also a problem when trait-absent person complains about not being chosen by a person who desired the specific trait.

It's a preference. It seems too "Duh" to say but not everyone likes everything.

Some people seem to have a hard time dealing with the fact that some people may simply not be into them.

I like the people who accept it, deal with it, it hurts a bit but life goes on.

If you chose a partner because of their striking physical beauty, casting aside things like brains, social skills, emotional temperment, communication skills etc, then once they lose their physical beauty, you shouldn't expect too much sympathy from people who hear your complaints.

By the averages, I am short. BEcause of some of my current activities and things I want to do in the future, it would become problematic to date/interact with a woman who is much taller than I am. So I am not interested in them.

And it's probably a good thing as they - on average - are not interested in me...he he he

And I hold no grudge against anyone who skips me due to my height , or lack thereof.
I would hate to be a cause of her anguish should she get stuck with me yet wanted a taller fellow.

The world still goes round and round no matter what.
