Carribean......I'm just saying that I'm not biased against short guys!!! and yes; I go for tall muscular guys too!!! I knew a girl that was 6' at the age of 14....she slouched because the kids at school made fun of her......then she switched school at ended up being the center on the basketball team.......by grade 12 she was about 6'3'..and didn't slouch anymore
Hambone.....let this be a lesson in not assuming all women are the same!!! I'm lucky; I've got a sensei that is an ex-cop, bodyguard, bouncer.....etc........and likes to fight!!! We don't just fight on our feet, like a typical karate dojo,,,,,we do ground fighting,,,,,judo throws.....If you do look at that UFC thread......make sure you read everything; it might take awhile.....the person that PrettyTough is talking about isn't the only one that does a lot of talking.......make sure you see both sides

I haven't yet dated a guy that I trained with. I'm not very comfortable with flirting in a sport with such close physical contact, so I typically discourage it even when I like the guy. Plus the girls who are there with guys are typically called "Steve's wife" or "Albert's girlfriend". Many guys don't even learn their names. I'm kindof partial to having my own name, ya know?

Plus I'd worry about school social structure if I dated a guy there. Accidents and injuries are a part of training, I've caused them to others and been on the receiving end of the same. If an otherwise good training partner makes a mistake and accidentally injures me, do I want a boyfriend around who might try to hurt him back? Do I want my training partners to worry that if they touch my chest (needed for some techniques) then jiu-jitsu boyfriend is gonna kick their ass? I don't want to be treated with kid gloves in training.

@ Pretty Tough

I knew of a girl that quit a class, because she claimed that the instructor kept "Groping" her when doing a demonstration, or tryingto show her the ropes.

I know him pretty well, he isn't the pervert type, he just sometimes like to horse around...who knows.

Man, common interest and ya can't date anyone in class, that sucks. Now, as far as wanting a boyfriend to try to hurt the guy that hurt you? Why would you want a neanderthal like that in the first place? That wouldn't justify him hurting a guy that accidently injured you.

Why would you want a boyfriend that kicks other guys asses anyways?

It's personal preference.. same as being attracted to blondes or brunettes or whatever you are drawn to. who knows why? Maybe it's a genetic thing?

I prefer tall men too. Always have... always will.

WEll, you're only 5'4", so any guy, even that is 5'8" would be tall enough.

To Hambone352:

Yup, you just learned a lesson. Even if they are 4'10 they still require them over 6'3!!

Why in the world would a man not want a woman to be proficient at self defense? Makes no damn sense to me. It keeps you in shape, your senses sharp, you're more limber, and you have a higher tolerance for pain--in fact, you're trained to let pain simply hurt and let it be. Hell, that should make the sex better, and if your SO goes out on a girls' night with her friends, you would know that she take care of herself. Applies to anyone breaking into your home as well.

All women should know self-defense. Come on. How often are men raped compared to women? I think women have a need for training more than men just because they can be over-powered if they aren't trained to resolve physical confrontation quickly and violently.

I no longer care about this height issue, and I'm not sure I really cared in the first place. It's getting old.

I just thought that I would add a new question to this thread. Should height be one of the messaging restrictions? For Example: Must be between 6'0 and 6'6. Because let's face it if you are not going to give a shorter guy a chance we are just wasting time sending you a message.

Exactly my point. I don't. Which is why I should date a guy I don't train with.

she claimed that the instructor kept "Groping" her when doing a demonstration

Well I'm not saying her claim is necessarily true, but some guys act one way around guys and some women, and a totally different way around other women and/or vulnerable children. That's why so many of the times you have a guy being charged as a pedophile or rapist, there's a bunch of nice socially respectable women and men standing beind him and saying what a wonderful upstanding member of the community he is and how the charges are completely ridiculous because he'd never do anything like that.

So are you saying every guy you dated/trained with, tried to kick a guys ass if an accident happened?

Hey I think I'm the shortest Firefighter on earth,I don't have a problem with my height and I have dated taller women, Guys get over the height thingy ,,,theres nothing wrong with the women on here who like taller men. We are short and and its never going to change,,I admire women who no what they want,,,show some confidence fellas, and we don't need to fight the big guys to prove anything. Get over the small man syndrom, and quit blaming these ladies for your insecurities,,,I played semi pro football, played on an all Ontario mens volleyball team,ect...and I'm 5'4",,,I love being small no problems at this end.

Not at all. I am not commenting on specific individuals or such a small group of individuals. And as I said before, I have not BOTH dated AND trained with anyone.

I think a lot of guys, especially those under their mid-thirties who often tend to be more hot-headed, would get pissed off at another guy if he thought the guy had sparred or grappled with his girlfriend too roughly. And the next time the boyfriend sparred or grappled with that guy, he'd be tempted to try and "teach him a lesson". This is a risk, not a certainty. I believe men to be at their most hot-headed state when women and fighting are involved.

I've seen something similar happen when the girl was simply a training partner rather than a girlfriend, and a new guy came in and did something uncontrolled and against the rules without realizing he was doing anything wrong. If the girl were somebody's girlfriend, I'm guessing he could be in for something worse.

PrettyTough.....I don't mind if a guy I'm dating is in the martial arts.....my dojo is small though; not much chance of dating someone from there!

mine has a lot of older and married men, plus some handsome guys who are young enough to be eye candy only.

Good final point though; more for us. (And no Hambone, before you ask, I don't mean more at the same time.)

i think this has turned into your take on bad asses instead of short guys... lol
like i said before .. its the person inside that makes the difference not the shell they got stuck with... short or tall... big or thin... kindness, emotions, and feelings all come from inside not the outside...

It has been my personal experience, (not everyone's just mine) that shorter men are more defensive, and act like they have a chip on their shoulder or something to prove. Also, the first ones to take a swing at you. That is why I avoid them, in general. Not like I think they are all that way, just most of those that I have met.
