I assured him to go cheap, nothing fancy... I am not flashy like that. After a few years we parted ways and I confessed that deep down I was disappointed. I wished to have something I could hold out and say look how much my man loves me. Huge cubic zirconia would have done the trick (haha). I dont think you have to go over the top, but dont be too chincy. This is your way of showing she is worth sacraficing something for.

My dream ring is about $10,000 and does have a princess cut diamond in the center and two baquettes on either side and is platinum. I know though... that the bigger a solitaire is the more it gets hung up on things... and there is a good possiblity that it could get lost... YIKES!!! Thats a scary thought when you think you could be wearing upwards of $5000 on your finger.
Have you thought about going to the stores with her to 'browse'? She could point out her interests to you then you could get a better idea...
I think it boils down to personal preference.
