| DO AMERICAN WOMEN THINK LATINOS ARE NOT IDEAL COMPANION?? Posted: 12/8/2008 6:51:46 PM | | Excuse me... but I have a very precise command of the english language and had I meant subserviant I would have said subserviant. You took doting to mean subserviant and thats your issue but you accused me of using a word that I never used nor implied. I was just setting the record straight. | |

| DO AMERICAN WOMEN THINK LATINOS ARE NOT IDEAL COMPANION?? Posted: 12/8/2008 6:52:28 PM | I'm sorry, I didn't accuse you, I misinterpreted. So sorry. According to Webster's college dictionary, to dote means: 1. to bestow or express excessive fondness (usu. fol. by on ; 2. to be weak-minded or foolish, esp. associated with old age. [1175-1225; ME: to behave foolishly, become feeble-minded.

It may not be across the boards, but they have told me...many times, they are looking within their own ethnic circle when looking for girlfriends
I wonder, why do you think that is, Kimbo... because of what froggy said, they are more subservient than most American women?
I really don't know the answer to this, Hallie.....and, I never really pressed my Brazilian friend for a specific reason....so, you know, I would just take it that they do feel more comfortable with someone who shares their heritage. And, also, my friends never mentioned anything about subservience in their taste....but I did get to hang with my friend and his brother and their girlfriends....they are young people too, by the way. In my view, both the guys and the girls seemed to show a great deal of respect toward 'each other'....it seemed to go both ways, actually.

| DO AMERICAN WOMEN THINK LATINOS ARE NOT IDEAL COMPANION?? Posted: 12/8/2008 7:14:47 PM | no harm, no foul.
But I think you really served to underscore my point... one culture looks at taking care of their man one way while this culture views it as being subservient.
Someone else just emailed me a great analogy: He's watching the big game with his buddies. His 2nd wife, a latina, makes sure his beer is always full. His first wife, an American, told him to "get his own fu*cking beer, she wasn't his maid." He goes on to add, "because of the way she cares for me, I'd do anything in the world for her."
One is making sure her man is cared for, the other is making sure her man ends up in someone elses arms.
Since divorce rates are far, far lower among the latin community, I wonder which method really works best, theirs or ours?

Posted: 12/8/2008 8:04:39 PM | | Frog, I maintain my original premise that you are stereotyping and generalizing negatively against American women and that isn't fair, and I maintain my original premise that it works both ways, as you say, regardless of the nationality, there are many American women who would happily "dote" on a man they are happy to be with, even though the true definition of "dote" is subservience.

Thanks Kimbo... maybe other cultures have things to offer and teach some of us crass, cold, uncaring and selfish Americans.

| DO AMERICAN WOMEN THINK LATINOS ARE NOT IDEAL COMPANION?? Posted: 12/9/2008 3:37:34 AM | even though the true definition of "dote" is subservience This is from good ol' merriam-webster. Please note the complete and total lack of the word subserviant in any shape or form.
: to be lavish or excessive in one's attention, fondness, or affection —usually used with on http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dote
stereotyping and generalizing negatively against American women and that isn't fair Life isnt fair. It's honest but not fair.
I've lived and dated all over this world and I can tell you that, as a whole, american women are the worst dates and mates. They are spoiled, selfish, opinionated and approach men as if they were the enemy to be conquered. Every issue turns into a battle to convince the man he's wrong and she's right and if the man would just act/see/believe the way she does then it would be a perfect world.
As an example, see this conversation.

| DO AMERICAN WOMEN THINK LATINOS ARE NOT IDEAL COMPANION?? Posted: 12/9/2008 4:49:43 AM | I'm not trying to convince Hallie I'm right, just that I'm entitled to my opinion which are based on my experiences and she, apparently, believes my opion is not fair.
Just like my opinion about capris...

| DO AMERICAN WOMEN THINK LATINOS ARE NOT IDEAL COMPANION?? Posted: 12/9/2008 7:34:34 AM | frog, I quoted the same definition you did:
to be lavish or excessive in one's attention, fondness, or affection
The word "excessive" means more than what is required or healthy. You also left off the part of that same definition "to be weak-minded or foolish, to behave foolishly, become feeble-minded."
In any event you have admitted you've had negative experiences with American women (and this post isn't the first time I noticed that) that has colored your thinking towards them in a negative light, and I'm sure you're not the only one. As you know, many American women have had very bad experiences with American men. Should they then, therefore, hate all American men and go around bad-mouthing all American men? I'm not trying to be right, I'm trying to get you to see you're making an unfair judgment of a whole group based on your personal experiences and maybe those of some of your friends, but I can see that's not going to happen. I never said you weren't entitled to your opinion.

it kind of looks like it is NOT just American WOMEN who (allegedly) have to be RIGHT!!! Maybe it’s just Americans!
Thanks for trying fellow peacemaker... I don't feel I always have to be right, but acknowledgment that there is merit to and understanding of my point would be nice.

| DO AMERICAN WOMEN THINK LATINOS ARE NOT IDEAL COMPANION?? Posted: 12/9/2008 8:52:18 AM | In one way, this goes against the forum rules of asking the question which can be preceived of asking only women.
I'll give my two cents worth. I've only dated 2 women that were from other countries and just recently moved here. They both stated that I was much nicer than men in their countries and one of them was from Madrid. Don't know if they were just trying to boost my ego or not. These were not women looking for a man to marry to stay here. One went back to her country and even wanted to spend her last night here with me.
I guess everybody has an opinion of how women should be treated. I once dated a woman who told me that my problem was that I did not abuse her and get mad at her. Hummmm. I really liked this girl and when she told me that, it was the last time I saw her. Had to call it off. So, who is to say how women need to be treated? It just depends on the woman.

You also left off the part of that same definition I didnt leave off anything, I cut and pasted the entire 2nd definition. The first definition was about the elderly... like Cajun!
The word "excessive" means more than what is required or healthy. And subserviant comes into your understanding of "doting on another" exactly wwhheeerrreee?
I'm trying to get you to see you're making an unfair judgment of a whole group You are trying to get me to see that your opinion is right and my opinion is wrong.
By comparison to women I have dated from other cultures, I dont think my judgment is the least bit unfair or inaccurate. On the other hand, how many women have you dated from other cultures so what do you have to base your opinions on? Nothing, other than wanting to believe that American women are superior and they simply are not.
but I can see that's not going to happen. BINGO! I am my own man, I have my own opinions and I change them only when it suits ME. This particular opinion was formed after exhaustive, in the field, hands on research!
I give every woman I meet a new, fresh, clean slate and its up to her to proove who she is and consistently the American women proove to be spoiled, selfish, self centered and completely devoid of male friendly behavior. So until I meet the American woman that can prove to me that she is a cut above all the others then I will continue with my beliefs that women from other cultures treat their men better than American women do.
They both stated that I was much nicer than men in their countries I've had the same experience Cajun. Women from other cultures appreciate American men for how we treat them and women from other cultures treat their men better.
I did not abuse her and get mad at her. I agree, I would have left skid marks getting away from that one... but women DO like a man with boundaries and one who will stand up for what he believes in but real men dont have to be abusive to do so.
Of course any man who stands up to the populist feminist view is subject to being ostracized, called names (sexist, pig, prejudiced, opinionated etc. etc. etc.)... but thats just what makes poking bears with sticks fun!

Nothing, other than wanting to believe that American women are superior and they simply are not.
NOWHERE did I say ANYBODY is superior to ANYBODY other than YOU sounding like YOUR OPINIONS are SUPERIOR to anybody else's! PHOOEY ON YOU.
You will continue to meet women who will confirm your attitudes and beliefs.
Yes, I never dated American women and I know plenty of them. Some are like the ones you describe and some are not. In fact, many suffer from low self-esteem and cater and dote on their men out of fear of abandonment. Doting is a form of service and one of the definitions of subservience is servility. Some women like to dote, it is their pleasure and happiness to dote on their man, and I think that is all well and good as long as it's appreciated and not abused.
You may not have met nice American women and yes you're entitled to have your negative attitude towards them based on your experiences, but with that negative attitude going in I fail to see how you can be giving each and every new woman you meet a fresh and clear opportunity to "prove themself" to you.

I think there's a reason many American Women eschew Latino & Oriental men...*coughcoughcough* The Average Height AND Length...and don't forget the Width!!

I was very very scared to read what you'd written next! Hallie, all I did was take the same broad generalizations being posted about latin men and turn them around on American women. Its funny how people react when its them being prejudiced against for no reason. Imagine how latin men must feel when they read what was posted about them in this thread.

| DO AMERICAN WOMEN THINK LATINOS ARE NOT IDEAL COMPANION?? Posted: 12/10/2008 7:16:28 AM | ^^^^^^ (just figured out that means "in reply to the post above")
If that's the case froggy then you and I are and have been in complete agreement all along! The question was posed by a Latin man wondering why American women seem to not be interested in him and if it has anything to do with him being Latin. I really don't know the answer to that question. There are enough generalizations men make about women and women make about men without adding enthnicity into the mix!

| DO AMERICAN WOMEN THINK LATINOS ARE NOT IDEAL COMPANION?? Posted: 12/10/2008 8:03:42 AM | I've traveled all over this great big world and can only count about 5 countries I have not visited. The one thing I know for absolute certain is there are no accurate stereotypes. Every individual is as unique as a snowflake and every individual has different wants, needs, desires and dreams.
We all act, react and respond differently according to whom we are with and what their needs, wants, desires and dreams are and according to how they treat us.
A man can be a player with every woman and then meet one woman that tames him. A woman can be a user then meet one man and all of a sudden want to settle down and have babies. Usually it makes no rhyme or reason, it just is.
