| Walk the line - Johnny Cash, any fans of the film and Artist? Posted: 3/3/2006 8:37:08 PM | Saw Johnny Cash when I was 13 years old at the Oakland Auditorium in Oakland CA. I was not a country music fan. In fact, the ONLY reason I went was because I was bored all to hell and my friend begged me to go because he had an extra ticket and nobody to go with. We got there early and saw him arrive in his tour bus. There were only afew people there, but he got mobbed by screamers like he was Elvis... except he didn't run. He just talked and joked with the women while they gushed over him and even talked to men in the crowd, asking them how things were around the bay area. He really liked people. He and June and everybody in the show were PEOPLE PERSONS... from June and her whole family, to the Statler Brothers, Luther Perkins, Minnie Pearl and everyone associated with the tour. They were happy as hell to be there and let everyone know it. There were maybe less than 1,500 people in the 5,000 seat auditorium that night, and most of them had plaid shirts, cowboy hats and levis rolled up and shouted "SOOEY!" or gave a rebel yell when something exciting happened on stage... but I LOVED IT.
I treasure that experience as one of the greatest shows I've ever seen... from Minnie Pearl opening the show all the way to everyone joining in on "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" at the end of it.
Johnny was a great songwriter. He wrote "Understand your man" and Bob Dylan just plain STOLE the whole song and called it "Don't think Twice" and Johnny never sued him... he just did Dylan's version and made a monster hit out of it and became close friends...
He did songs about civil rights and minorities and the working people of this great nation. I'll never forget him... THE BEST.

Bringing back fond memories when my older sister bought a 45 of the song I walked the Line and on the other side was his song called Train of Love.

| Walk the line - Johnny Cash, the film and Artist? Posted: 3/28/2006 8:02:42 AM | | FYI: The Scene in the Movie where Johnny Proposes to June said it was in Ontario Canada. But it never said what city it was in. I just got the Audio book "The Man Called Cash" and the city was London Ontario. | |

| Walk the line - Johnny Cash, the film and Artist? Posted: 3/28/2006 10:04:58 AM | | I saw the movie twice, then bought the dvd and soundtrack cd. It is a great movie. Johnny Cash and June Carter were national treasures and their music will live on forever. Hopefully there will be a future movie on the second half of Cash's life. | |

| Walk the line - Johnny Cash, the film and Artist? Posted: 5/7/2006 11:43:54 PM | | I liked the movie, but why did they leave out when Johnny Cash went into a cave to die and when he came out his wife and Billy Graham were there waiting for him and that was the end of his drug problem. That's cinematic gold and it really happened! The movie ends instead with him trying to get his tractor out a ditch. What ending would have been more powerful? | |

There will never be another Johnny Cash......every effort will be weak.
That's SO true...
If one wants to find out what a life Johnny and June had, read his autobiography. He had WAY WAY more interesting stories than were in the movie. That was just a bare bones recollection of a small part of his life.
He lived next door to Roy Orbison when Roy's house burned down. He was close friends with Bob Dylan, many other people all through the history of rock and country and folk music.
He had an incredibly interesting life....

| Walk the line - Johnny Cash, any fans of the film and Artist? Posted: 5/9/2006 7:38:07 PM | | I really enjoyed the movie. Like many other POFers, I thought that the actors did a good job. However, I didn't really know much about Johnny Cash before this movie came out but after seeing it, I've listened to more of his music and its absoloutly amazing. Funny how movies with actors with little resemblance (my mother was appalled) make someone want to learn more about that singer they are portraying. | |

| Walk the line - Johnny Cash, the film and Artist? Posted: 5/10/2006 2:26:36 PM | I have the DVD...I was disappointed. I can't wrap my mind around the fact that it left out his later life. Why even bother, if you're not going to fully cover his life? I think Reese nailed June's personality and charm, I think Joaquin nailed Johnny only when he was singing/performing. Otherwise, his acting was rather nondescript.
Dang it, now I can't get that song outta my head! "Because you're mine, I walk the line."
What a simple but beautiful lil sentence.
EDIT: And "Jackson" IS a real toe tapper!
