| Unjust sex offender distinction Posted: 4/3/2007 8:10:58 AM | It will follow him for life, most likely. Though it is public information, when one checks the sex offender registries in their locales, I think they should also check the offense. We have registered sex offenders that were 18 or 19 and had 15 or 16 year-old girlfriends, convicted and forced to register. I have a teenaged neice. If my neice was being courted by a forty or sixty year-old man, I would have serious problems with that and consider him a predator. On Dateline or one of those shows they have had a series of stings where these pedophiles go online and then show up for an encounter with a child. When the authorities rush in, they all cry and say they were just playing around on the computer and had no intention of doing anything. It is important to protect our children from predators. If your friend has no other criminal offenses, perhaps he can get it expunged, which is a one-time courtesy to one who made a mistake and it is not a pattern of behavior? | |
