Being a vegetarian myself I must say obviously it wouldn't bother me dating a vegetarian/vegan, but honestly it shouldn't bother any one. People make choices in life, whether it be what they eat, whether or not they drink or smoke, etc. It is a life choice for whatever the reason! Your interest in a person should be about the person...

Posted: 3/6/2007 2:52:22 AM | Interesting. Three pages and two years later  and nobody's really distinguished between vegetarians and vegans or the reasons for becoming either one.
If a person becamea vegetarian for health reasons, then sure, I would date them, as long as (as many people have mentioned), they didn't try to convert me. I like my meat. And there also has to be some give and take. Want me to cook a vegetarian meal for you? Are you prepared to bbq a steak for me?
If it's a moral, ethics, animal treatment / exploitation sort of reason, then no, probably not. That's more likely for us to have socio-political differences that are unresolveable.
True vegans are vegetarians to the extreme and will not consume or USE anything derived from animals. No milk, eggs, leather, silk, wool etc. It's as much or more of a moral issue than a health one. So dating a vegan? Ain't gonna happen. And I know all the vegans out there are absolutely heart-broken right now  | |

Posted: 3/6/2007 6:20:46 AM | Ladies if you met this nice guy and you hit it off and you asked up to your place to eat for a nice turkey dinner or something with meat in the menu and he mention he's a Vegan vegetarian. Would you still see him and make him something that he could eat? Or would you dump him?
I couldn't see a vegan being interested in me... I live a carnivore's diet, and no bones about it (full pun intended.) I just do not see that working at all... I can't imagine being looked at as if I'm evil for having cheese sauce on my veggies, cream in my coffee, deep fried curried grasshoppers for a snack. And then all the work to make meals work out between us. Having to get creative with tofu and beans so I didn't get bored with my diet. Eek. Nope couldn't see it happening.
I once had a friend who preached on the evils of eating meat, how animals scream and feel pain, so I let her hear the sounds trees make when they are faced with a forest fire - they scream... before they are even heated up by the fire. I had so much fun with that.
I'm off now to eat my bacon, eggs, toast and butter, portions of cheese, milk and coffee with mucho cream breakfast... | |

Posted: 3/6/2007 7:56:09 AM | | well, considering most people i know are vegetarian, non-dairy, etc...wouldn't bother me. that's the least of my concerns when meeting anyone. in fact, it tells me oftne that they have princples and have thought about what they're eating, etc. i like that cause i have my own principles and thoughts when it comes to food, etc. we could have a really good discussion about it over a stir-fry or something :) i might be a meat eater but i still have a lot of values associated with that and my own code of ethics. | |

I don't know about it lasting in the long run though. It would be hard unless that person was as accepting of the fact that I like to eat meat. I find many people tend to get a little preachy when talking about their choices, whether it be eating, smoking/non-smoking, drinking, abstaining etc. As long as that didn't enter into it things would be fine. I just wouldn't date someone who is making gagging noises and giving me disgusted looks when I'm chowing down on my nice medium-rare steak. | |

Posted: 3/6/2007 10:44:30 AM | Due to health issues I am not only Lactose but "Catene" intolerant. This is a chemical used in most dairy processes, including Soy beverages. So not many substitutes available to me either.
I LOVE red meat, but stay away from potatoes as much as possible... don't ya know, that stuff gets in yer mouth?!!!!!  I wouldn't kick a good man outta bed for eating celery, and would think he wouldn't kick me out for eating ribs.
My question is this, if lactose intolerant people swallow, and they do...lol...why wouldn't Vegans?  | |

Posted: 3/6/2007 11:13:55 AM | Being mostly vegetarian and having had vegan periods I would certainly have no problem dating a vegetarian! (but I'm taken, moot point).
What I do find is that not all people are tolerant or considerate of my food choices. My softball team, for example, consistently ordered pizza and wings at the after-game get-togethers and no one seemed capable of remembering that I prefer not to eat those grease laden dead animals.

I chose to be vegetarian because of my love and respect for animals and health issues that plague humans due to the consumption of meat.

Posted: 3/20/2007 7:31:53 PM | I know many people who are vegetarians and who are vegans. I even know people who will only eat an organic vegan diet. I'm totally cool with it. Even as a carnivore I enjoy eating vegetarian from time to time. Just last night I made a rippin pot of vegetarian chilli because I felt like it. I'm also considerate and I try to be sensitive to any issues my veggie friends might have with meat that i'm eating.
I have no problem dating a vegan or a vegetarian because it's so easy for me to cook vegetarian food. Right beside the burgers, on a separate part of the grill, I've been known to throw on a few portabello mushrooms and use those as the "burger" when I have vegetarian friends over.
My thing is what a lot of people say...i'm fine with it so long as I don't get a "meat is murder!" speech every time I chow down on a good steak.
My question for you vegetarians/vegans is would you date a meat eater...even a "considerate carnivore" like me? | |

Harvey's makes a good veggie burger. And St Yves veggie dogs loaded with the usual street meat fixin's, who can tell the difference? Not me!
I was a vegetarian for 4 months once (still ate dairy) to switch to a healthier lifestyle and it is tough at times, especially when you are a guest in someone else's home. I spent a week in France during this time with my girlfriend's family and they just couldn't grasp the concept. Luckily I was not opposed to eating meat cause apparently , in France, "it's only ham" means it's not really meat!! LOL
In terms of dating someone and preparing special meals, no problem! I can eat my meat at lunch (which is usually only itty bitty bits in my soup), better to cook light at night anyways! | |
