about average build?????

I'm currently 176 lbs 6'0. I consider myself average, but more on the athletic side. I was 215 lbs at my heaviest and for health reasons needed to dump it. It's all about how you carry it. As my friend Sonya would say "clothes hide a lot of damage." She was so right. My clothes hid some damage. I don't mind average at all. Even a few extra pounds is fine (as long as they are stratigically placed )). I don't want someone super thin and built like a 10 year old boy, I'll pass.

I think age plays a factor as well

When I was in my 20's, I was thinner than I am now. I was also average compared to my fellow 20 somethings. Now that I am 44 and weigh 205, I am certainly heavier than I was 20 years ago. But I would also say I am average when compared to other 40 year old men.

it has nothing to do with your height/weight , its all about your body fat %.

2 guys ;
200lbs 6'0 10%bf
vs
200lbs 6'0 25%bf

difference is like DAY and NIGHT!

i put "a few extra pounds" on my profile... and i got freaks... i am slightly overweight, and everyone else seems to be that way too. i changed it to average, and no one has said anything when they meet me... or see my pictures....

but i did meet a guy that was listed as a "few extra pounds"... and i think he needs to look up the word "few" in the dictionary... his definition is liberal at best.

I put down "average" because "in shape but could use to lose 15 pounds" is not an option. (too much eating of garbage in the last year and a half since I was going thru/got divorced).

6'4" 235#. The poster back a ways who said Percent Bodyfat is right on. By BMI I am "Severely Overweight". Per military height-weight standards, I am about 13 pounds too heavy. When they "rope and choke" me (kinda-sorta a way to get bodyfat percent) I come in at 18-19%. (Standard is less than 22%). However, I am "large framed" and have a decent amount of muscle on me. No, I am not helping you move a couch.

Compared to the average guy my age, I am in shape. But I am not low enough on the BF% for me to honestly put athletic on there. When I get back to 215-220, then I may change it.

The women here are kind of a crapshoot. I'd say about 40% of the ones that put average down are, 10% should put athletic/thin but are modest (or have really good pics), and 50% honestly are "few extra" or bigger.

Then again, I live where the "average" woman is 5'2" and 200+

Well the average women's size is not a 12/14 so average is already a bit overweight. What's average is based on what most people are.

if i don't have a physical attraction for your chunky little butt, there's no sense in wasting our time. and that's what i hate about dating sites is the people who aren't average build say they are and then you meet and she is 2 ton tessy....kinda pisses you off.

You are free to be attracted to whoever you choose to. If someone has pictures up that are accurate and recent however i see no reason at all to choose a body type. People can look and decide for themselves.

Here's how I see this:

THIN: If you're a man, then it means you're skinny. Either some very skinny or just not having any pudge. You could have some tone, but it doesn't come out with you looking like an athlete. If you're a woman then it's the same thing. You're skinny, small breast size possibly, but you're not all toned like a fitness model.

ATHLETIC: If you're athletic, then it's a range of anything from thinner like a runner or swimmer to bigger like a bodybuilder. Athletic doesn't mean you have to have a 6-pack abs and a perfectly toned muscular body, but when people look at you it shows you take care of yourself. You work out and are active. You have little or no body fat.

AVERAGE: I know many larger men and women use "average" either as a means to try to sell themselves better or the complaint how no one ever searches for "Slightly Overweight" or Big & Tall/BBW".

Average to me means you're not skinny, nor athletic, but you're not fat. Yes you might have a tiny bit of gut or slightly larger butt, but you don't look like a "before" picture for Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers. Average to me is the Average American. They go to work, go home, not hit the gym regularly, look good in certain clothes, but they do not stand out in people's minds as athletically fit or skinny.

They still look like people with a healthy weight. Most people won't look at these people as fat or overweight, but they will not see them as "hot" as the athletic or thin people. (unless they don't like thin or athletic people)

SLIGHTLY OVERWEIGHT: The is sort of an in-between of Average and Big & Tall/BBW. This is the person you notice that is overweight and could stand to lose 20-30 lbs. They have the larger butt and noticeably larger gut, and even creative clothing can't cover that up. Some will call these people fat, others just see them as overweight. They are not the types who would look good or even decent in a bikini or shirtless at the beach. However, they are also not huge in size.

BIG AND TALL/BBW: This is just what I call very obese, very fat, and/or morbidly obese. This is the person who is pushing 50-100 lbs overweight and I don't care what they say, they are just very large. They are the "before" photo for Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers. Big gut, big butt, double chins, etc.

People on dating sites need to stop lying to themselves on their bodies. If they think no one is going to message them because they are overweight, then maybe they should do something about it as opposed to crying about how unfair the world is.

I agree. People should post recent full length shots to show how they really look. No pictures taken from creative angles or only face shots. I like myself how i am which is why i frequently update my pictures and make sure most of them are full length. Everyone should have enough confidence to show themselves how they really look.

Who cares what body type you pick out so long as you have good photos. It's not like if you go out and meet someone in person you ask them "so what body type would you classify yourself as" No you would just use your eyes and make your own mind up on that.

This is definitely one of the things I noticed first about this site. Many women would say they were average builds when their pictures clearly said otherwise. I don't get the point in lying especially when you have a picture that proves this not to be the case.

Maybe they need someone to go around adjusting profiles based on pictures lol.

I don't get the point in lying either which is why i am not. I left it as prefer not to say and put up recent pictures of myself. If you can't trust your own eyes and make up your own mind about people by yourself then you got some big problems.

Because everyone's definition of 'average' is different. Clearly there are people in denial about themselves. A bodybuilder will have a very different view of what 'fat' is. Average is a 'wide' range! And to be sure, even a full range pic doesn't always tell the story. Anorexic's always think they look fat! Some muscular guys think they always look skinny!

If a person has no workout ethic, then the 'average' & 'fat' lines become blurred. If you can pinch an inch, your'e fat! But most 'average' people can pinch way more than an inch and it depends where your'e grabbing that inch of flesh. Also, the endomorph types can be in the 'average' category and still be big looking. It's all very subjective, indeed. What about 'curvy' big? Is that average, or 'voluptuous'? OR....are they just plain FAT!

I'd bet tho that a lot of women will put down 'average' knowing full well they are stretching them average limits to the hilt!

That said, it's all about "personality" anyways, right?

What does it matter how big or small people look like. Why are people so shallow and care about weight vs. height? In my humble opinion, I think that crap should not be even posted on profiles. you should like people for what their personalty is like not how they look or how big they are. I get really tired of people saying "she hot!" because they are thin. You know what there are lot of overweight ,per say, are hot too. Really if you never saw pic of a person and talked to them on internet or phone for while and you guys click, but when you meet she/he is big, per say, would you really not want to be with that person? All this is stupid really. Its like balled headed people scared woman won't like them because they have no hair. so they get those stupid fake hair. My friend once said " CHEMISTRY" is all that matters. looks have no value in a finding a mate.

You are a trip. As an overachiever I hate to put average but if you look at my photo- I am proportionate. I am tall and slightly thick because I am an athlete. Just post a full lenght body photo and let them decide for themselves. You go girl.

average to one person is not average to another it is a matter of perception I suspose.
I think that today's average would be in a range from about a size 10 - about a 14. again it is a opinion. slender is usually a size 4-8 and of course these sizes are just numbers and people are built differently I myself am a 14 so I am on the larger size of average, Plus size clothes are usually to big for my frame but I can't wear smaller sizes either but I manage to find attractive clothing to wear.

Excellent disection grkboy!!! May I add to the "average" description? The way I see it LADIES...if your chest is still out further than your belly....you are average!! MEN!!! If your tool is still sticking out further than your tool shed...you are average!!! Anything beyond this, you become "a few extra pounds"...DEAL WITH IT!!! And, please, if you are not sure what you are...take off your clothes, stand sideways (naked) in front of a mirror, and just be honest with yourself!!! Cheers!!

It seems that when a girl/woman claims she's average on this site, she's usually large sized. The average should not be large, folks! If you are heavy or large sized just say so in your profile. Don't hide anything. Be honest. A few extra pounds doesn't mean 50 lbs plus.

Exactly! You expect females claming they're average to be actually large sized, so by that reasoning you would expect a few extra pounds to mean 50 lb plus

Just use photos guys!

^^^^^^There’s an idea, we could have the “J-Lo” category.

Lindsay Lohan category for the skinny women, and the ever so popular Rosie O'Donnell category.

I wonder why this site doesn’t just let us enter our weight, it still wouldn’t tell the whole story, but it would take some of the guess work out.

Weight is just a number and everyone carries it differently. You can put 3 women all 5'4 together that weigh the same and each body will be completely different. Average to me is not 'ideal' it is somewhere above or below based on your body fat index, bone structure and genes. Some gals are 130 LBS and have athletic builds others are 130 and very curvy. Age is also a huge factor, my Dad has weighed the same since he was in the Navy in the 50's but his body is not the same as it once was..

I assumed the same thing, and go accordingly. However, the true average in America, is about 5'4" and 180 lbs. So, average can mean either. Why I posted a swim suit pic, until it attracted more sharks then fish. LOL
