hey i had dreads for about a year and a half. i got them partly because i wanted to be a bit 'different' but also because i was well into the rock scene esp bands like rage against the machne and korn which the band members have dreads. ive always kinda wanted them so while i was at uni i thought might as well!

After i got them it got more of a statment about not following the norm like sheep, eg going to my local club with 99% of guys with the same haircut, same shirt on and same topics of convo!

One of the best things about having dreads was that people who wanted to talk to me were pretty kool, as if it was a pretty clear statment of music choice lifestyle etc.

the worst thing about it was maintaning dreads! it takes absolutly ages and the expense of the wax etc also when they get wet it take ages to dry!

anyhow just some thoughts about my experence!

I just have to add that the cute factor for my day yesterday was greatly increased by a couple walking with their young son -- he looked maybe three or four years old, and had short (well, maybe four or five inch long) dreads bouncing as he skipped along between his mom & dad, and was just so adorable! He looked so happy, not a care in the world & enjoying the sun, and I just couldn't picture any other hairstyle that would have suited him that well.
Okay, all done being sappy ol' lady now.

I personally love dreads on black men, and find them very attractive. On white guys, now that’s a different story. Why do white guys and gals think they can wear dreads and have it look good? That’s when you see the nasty, dirty, rats-nest with bugs crawling through it. I had a white guy sit down in front of me at a baseball game where the top of his mat was moving… almost dropping our drinks, we moved as fast as our legs could jump over the people around us. It didn't take long for others to move away also. One way to get good seats.

Note: agree. "It reminds me off a bunch of worms hanging off someones head."

I see it as a form of rebellion. Against normal dress codes. But, if you own your own company like Bill Gates or Donald Trump or Martha Stewart, then do your own thing. I personally see it as a lazy man or lazy woman''s of keeping up your hair. But, if it is a religion thing, then go for it. I like clean cut men. My son-in-law is half african american and german. He always keeps his hair short and close to his head. I have seen him this way for the last 7 years. He works at the Hilton. And is a supervisor there also. He is the example there and for his own 5 year old son and at church too. Sometimes, we try too hard to be different. You don''t have to dress different to think in your own unique taste as an individual. Peace.

Dreads rule on black folks, especially if the person's face is symmetrical and the dreads are twisted into tiny pipes that curl. White folks have no business with dreads unless they have black person hair texture. The white folks who do that think they look cool, or something. They'll look real cool when it falls off, too. There's not a chance in hell that they're a Rastafarian, either. It's just gross, is all. They remind me of that bimbo from Four Non-Blondes who blew out her vocal chords and has one of Slash's disgusting Abraham Lincoln hats. It's time these people realized that Jerry passed away and the cult only comes out and congregates in cheesy parks that are cursed and have quarries. Their lack of hygiene does not sit well in mainstream society today anymore than it didn't then. I saw a white boy with an afro once. It was a real afro and it was orange.

I personally think locks are extremely beautiful and very sexy.No one likes dirty hair, regardless of the style.
I was taught by one of the nicest Jamaiican men how to do locks and have enjoyed doing them for others for over 10 yrs now. However, they are of a religious nature and should never be worn simply as a fashion statement.
Only in America, can we claim to be free of biased people, yet remain so close minded and opinionated, even when we do not fully understand something.Ignorance is "NOT" a bliss.......Peace

I LOVE me some dreadlocks, especially if they are attached to a cutie with a Jamaican accent.

When my daughter was 15 she worked at a Chick-fil-a at the mall. She had a huge crush on a guy that worked at Pac Sun. He lied to her and said he was 17 but he was 23 and had pink dreadlocks. He got fired for stealing...I was so happy:)) Hey didnt Milli/Vanilli have dreadlocks? I guess I have a bad impression for people with dreadlocks I need to meet someone in person with them but I dont live in Jamaica. They are not very popular in Missouri USA.
