Commas can be real important. Take the sentence," Let's eat, Grandma".
Remove the comma.........

I didn’t mean commas that were used appropriately. I meant multiple commas used like,,,,,this. What’s up with that?

",,," drives me nuts as well. It's not that the poster is necessarily stupid, but when they punctuate like that, it sure does make them look that way. Maybe they think it's a lesser pause than "...".

Or maybe they just need someone to reach through the screen and slap them upside the head.

I use them all the time when writing on-line in forums or e-mail... I never use them in regular letters or in everyday writing... I guess it's just my on-line style... sentences are more like little thought patches that happen to flow... lol

I use punctuation to make my sentences more like the Spoken word .. with breaks, pauses and accentuations !!
Multiple commas are Not proper . . nor is poor usage..
'Woman/women' .. 'there/their/they're' .. 'I', as a noun is Capitalized...
not : '..' i ' am going home, now..'
The _Non-use_ of it can Dramatically change .. or permit the mis-reading of .. the persons Intent of any particular sentence...!

I've been criticized for it in the past, and have curtailed my *excessive* use of it .. but
It Does have it's place..!!
~ -moties-...??
I rarely use more than 3 .. !!!

"...I can almost see people using more then three if they really have a lot more to say..."
"...that is not correct English and you should know that..."
"...some people use them...like salad seasoning..."
"...I fell like i am decoding a half pronounced radio message or something..."

Three "dots" can be used when quoting parts of a sentence, as above; the presence of the dots indicates that something was left out.

They can also be used at the end of a sentence, especially at the end of a paragraph, for dramatic pause...

But... overused, they become irritating... and trite...

I gave up caring about people who fail basic punctuation skills. On the internet there's two things you're always going to run into: text speak and poor punctuation (or none in rare instances). The only thing a person can really do is just get used to it, or learn to ignore the complete mess posts.

I tried once, to do something similar at another community I am part of, it was followed by "I come here to relax not get another English lesson" style flames. Case in point, way too many people simply don't care about spelling, punctuation or grammar online. By all means complain, we have the right but no one is going to change unless they want to.

Namats III -- quite frankly, your posts are hard to read because of the excessive punctuation and nonsense, and I generally skip over them.

(Sorry -- but hey, you brought it up.......) *shrug*

it is mostly girls you will notice

I dated a guy that never used a period, only commas, and it drove me batty.

[Of course, he also never bothered setting up contacts in his email program so he always used an email the I had previously sent in order to send me a new one. Lazy maybe? Can't be bothered to learn my email address? He also kept ALL of his emails in the Inbox so he had to sort through about 500 emails to find the specific one he was looking for.]

I'm a compulsive dotter... can't help it...
... can sometimes feel myself regressing... wanting to use excessive commas...
But so far I've bee able to control it..

It's the only way I can type the way I talk... it's impossible to type a Texas drawal without looking like a complete idiot... and there are no tortured vowel keys..

I'll have to settle for pauses... expressed by dots..

However... I have all my dots and commas imported from Mexico.... so actually I'm pausing in Spanish...
