| Do you tip? Posted: 11/29/2006 9:01:12 PM | | i own a restaurant and i have seen quite a bit of interesting people. we have a rule, any cheapskate regulars even semi regular, get tossed! even as an owner the gov't of quebec says they are taking 8 percent of 20 percent of the bill before tax. we won't screw around with these **************.i have received 3 whole dollars on a 275$ delivery bill. one jerk said many people overtip and he just balances the curve.i was so flabbergasted!i told him he could sit there as long as he wants but no one will ever take his order.we overtip but we are in the industry.whether its in a bar, restaurant, chambermaid of a motel/hotel, and the gas jockey, and all the sweet young ladies at timmie's! | |

| Do you tip? Posted: 12/1/2006 9:42:45 PM | I tip. I tip 'cause I care. It's funny when you're in a country where tipping is an insult though ('cept for cabbies, but that's 'cause they get the shitty end of the stick quite often).
The weird thing is, we've taken on the habit of tipping all kinds from the USA... but without the really stupid wage system that makes it neccessary for people to tip there. In most states, waiters/waitresses get paid at a rate of about half of minimum wage and have to make up the rest in tips, which is really damn stupid.
This, coupled with the non-taxed lottery winnings, are why Canada's a pretty cool country. Huzzah for the gratuity actually being a gratuity.

| Do you tip? Posted: 1/5/2007 4:25:31 PM | I once went to a almsot empty restaurant for breakfast. I ordered 2 eggs over easy, bacon white bread toast and a coffee.
45 minutes later as a stared at my empty coffe cup, i asked the waitress who was leaning over the counter chatting with the cashier how much longer it would be... and if i could get my coffee while i wait.
She responded with "I have no idea how long it will e and your coffee will come with your meal" when i mentioned it had been 45 minutes she shrugged and said "i dont cook here".
I got my food 15 minutes later (cold).. and when i left i did NOT leave a tip. But the girl actually went into a diatribe about lower then minimum wages and how she is taxed on the expectation she would be getting tips.
How was i to respond to that?

It would be nice to see the old way of tipping based on excellent service return. I try to be more generous with people who serve me well and stick to the "rules" with those who don't.

| Do you tip? Posted: 2/15/2007 4:16:35 PM | | I work in the service industry and i know how important those tips are. I tip everyone from the tims girls(been there done that), cabbies, waiter/waitress, coat check girl, delivery people, packer boys...everyone. The amount i tip depends on the quality of service i get. You treat me good ..I'll treat you good. | |

| Do you tip? Posted: 2/16/2007 6:38:29 PM | I used too be a bartender/waitress.My daughter is waitress in Moncton.My whole family are big tipper's. | |

| Do you tip? Posted: 2/23/2007 9:47:04 PM | I often tell people not to mix colours with bleach. I also like to tell them not to stand up in a canoe. Are those good tips? | |

| Do you tip? Posted: 2/24/2007 9:48:59 AM | I worked in a restaurant as a cook, long time ago.. rarely got tips but when we did always remebered not to spit in their food..lol dont forget to tip the cooks..Kidding about spitting of course , but it does make a difference.
I tip everyone who gives good service, I tip exceptional service exceptionally, and bad service badly.
I will not eat at a restaurant that adds tip in automatically.

| Do you tip? Posted: 2/25/2007 6:56:25 AM | I tip unless the service is really really bad. If the service is excellent, the bigger the tip. I don't go by percentage of meal cost scale. I tip coat checks too.
Even if someone else pays for the meal and tips, I'll usually leave a couple extra bucks on the table myself if I thought the service was really good.
I waitressed for a brief moment of time. You have to take a lot of crap with a smile so they deserve every tip they get usually.

| Do you tip? Posted: 5/21/2007 10:15:33 AM | | yes tip if the service is good and freindly. | |
|
| Do you tip? Posted: 5/21/2007 3:58:09 PM | Yes I tip. I tip more dependong on how the service was and whether or not i have it at the time. | |
|
| Do you tip? Posted: 5/24/2007 9:44:50 AM | I always tip, I was a waitress and appreciate what a waitress has to put up with from the public.
For all the times the man tipped and his wife(?) took it, for all the times the guy pinched me and his wife glared AT me, for all the times I had to clean up a disgusting mess left by strangers, I know I earned my tips and I know that waitresses today earn theirs too!
Tipping is a nice way to say thank you for the service. You pay the check for the food, and you tip for the service. In today's world of tight budgets it's often the case that the restaurant has fewer staff to serve you, you may have to wait a bit longer for your meal, but remember, it's not the waiter/waitress' fault. They're doing all they can to get your meal to you as fast as possible.

I tip even if the service is bad, BUT I will tip better for better service. There may have been a couple of occasions where the service provided was bad enough I didn't tip. Tipping for me is more of a comment on the quality of service, rather than the quality of food.

| Do you tip? Posted: 9/2/2007 12:26:22 PM | I tip and it kind of annoys when people don't. Many of these people make very little money and the only thing that brings them up to an acceptable income level is their tips. They have to put up with an above normal level of crap with a smile...they deserve it.
The tip starts to dwindle lower if they get defensive at all or don't acknowledge when they make a mistake but turn it around like you did something to cause it. When they let their frustrations from other customers appear it also has an impact. Service industry = suck it up and take it.
I use tips to bribe cabby's too. 5 of us all wanting a cab going in different directions, I'll be the one that annoys the rest by offering a big tip to be their priority.
|
| Do you tip? Posted: 9/3/2007 2:28:31 PM | I generally try to convince my date to pay. So tipping isn't really an issue with me...
If the waitress is really hot I will sometimes give her an open palmed pat on the behind to let her know she is doing a good job. Does that count as a tip?
|
| Do you tip? Posted: 9/25/2008 8:33:15 AM | Being a waitress, I definitely tip. Even if the service was awful, I still do, because I'd feel bad if I didn't.
I always tip at least 15% and then try to round to the nearest dollar. But if the service was really good (or the waitor was really cute...) I'll leave more.
|
| Do you tip? Posted: 10/1/2008 4:48:31 AM | | I tip in places where you do tip. I tip the average going rate and only if the service is at least adequate. | |
