Age is just a number
No, age is not just a number. If it were, then 5 year olds could go to the strip bar and get drunk before they head off to vote.
Women who dress like they think they are 20 are embarrassing themselves - better ways to show off a nice body.

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 12/7/2005 5:14:27 PM | why is it there are dress codes for women and none for men? 20 year olds wear t shirts and jeans..so do 60 year olds..and that's ok...so why can't women do the same? I so hate double standards...
and for the record I think backwards baseball caps are cute..on any age or gender..so there.

And, jeans and a t-shirt don't count as clothes; more like second skin.

Posted: 12/7/2005 5:26:09 PM | | oh so then jeans and a 1/2 t are considered like a second skin? or is that only a full T? lol to me that's silly wear what you like..I don't see what the issue is to be honest. Are women over 40 to wear those pretty elastic waisted pants with the big old flowered blouses? I like big old sweaters that hang way down and cover me all up..gotta be low cut tho..but I don't see why other women can't wear what they like, if I wasn't so shy I probably would to but i hate attention so I can't bring myself to do it..mind you my ass is a bit to large for that kind of dressing..

From your pics I see that you're dressed nicely without (to me at least) trying to look twenty years or more your junior. The majority of the time the trendy fashions don't work on the younger set either, so don't get too bent out of shape.
Second, I never stated that I thought you *should* be wearing anything. If anything, I said that the few times I've seen women around my age around these parts trying to pull off the teeny-bopper look that it just doesn't work. That probably says more about the local scene than anything else.
Perhaps I should be less subtle. You ladies can be incredibly sexy while dressing very conservatively. Your sex appeal comes through whether you intend it to or not. We gentlemen do not necessarily gravitate toward the woman exposing the most. There is a woman I know who worked where I do for a short time who I have never seen wearing anything but jeans, work boots, a blouse or sweatshirt. She is one of the hottest women I know (she's a couple of years my junior) and I've not ever seen more of her body than her face, arms and hands, and her beautiful long blonde hair. She never had to dress provocatively or bare her belly button (and she too appears to have the body to pull it off) to attract my attention. She's incredibly charming as well.
Finally, I don't have my picture up for a very good reason as I'm only using this psuedonymn to participate in the forums. This way there is no distraction and the readers can concentrate on my words.

If you want my personal opinion you will have to email me photos for my evaluation…lol

I found it telling that the man with the most negative things about "older women" is the guy with no pic and who is self described as "few extra pounds". Do I smell the scent of sour grapes?:

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 12/8/2005 1:53:06 PM | You should dress in whatever makes you happy. There is nothing I appreciate more than an attractive woman who is comfortable in anything and everything.
Age specific stores? Lost me there. And yes there are 20 year olds that should never be wearing tiny tops, low cut jeans or heaven forbid spandex.

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 12/8/2005 4:34:13 PM | Oh god, I guess I have Clark Gable's philosophy here "frankly my dear, I don't give a damn"... I promise you, I won't expose my belly button in public because I'm afraid that I will get robbed of my 3 carat ruby that is in my belly button! Therefore, I don't relish on being a target of the thieves..
I may go without a bra to Home Depot, I've never seen the store evacuate... As far as the cleavage thing goes, if I've got a great bra, great top, I may expose an inch or two of my cleavage...
On the other hand, I don't think I rock, when I wear a 6 inch skirt... I did in college.. I will wear jeans and I will wear shorts and you'll never catch me without my Birkenstocks or my Keens!
The energy that we expend in worrying about how we should dress for our age, geez, we could become millionaires.. Seriously, there are more things to get our knickers in a knot than what is appropriate for dress at our age.. Keep it clean, keep it neat, and keep it simple.

If you have a flat tummy and no rolls .. by all means .. show the belly button
