Appropriate for who? Who's rules are you under? Other women may frown upon it because they are not in shape enough to show thier body. Who the hell cares what other people think, live and enjoy yourself as long as you are not being disrespectful to others. Big Up Ladies who take care of themselves!

Whatever makes you comfortable and confident is the right answer.... the more you achieve that, the sexier and more fantastic you will feel. If I had your body, I would be FIERCE! I don't, but I still dress in things that flatter me, so I get the same confidence and good feeling about how I look right now, instead of how I wish I look.
You earned it, there are no rules, I envy you, so I would look you up and down, but not to sneer....to get motivated!
Like Erin Brockovich says: "As long as I've only got one ass, I'll wear whatever I want...", something like that...
Appropriate has to do with fit and occasion, not age...

By the time a woman is 40.....I am sure she can dress however she feels? It wouldn't be right to criticize anyone on how they dress, because in doing so think about what your wearing and why? It's what we want to be seen as? Be yourself guys and ladies....easier with truth than remembering fiction? take care.

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 2/25/2006 5:50:28 AM | I work in a busy bustling night club street and i see it all. there are young girls trying to ware what their friends ware and shouldnt coz their fat and flabby. The gold coast has many stunning women in their 40s and 50s and if there body is good they show it why not. The only concern is do it with style, and a touch of class. Never show too much skin at once. Its the legs or the cleavige or else you may look like a hooker or an easy lay and have morons all over you. My younger sister had her belly button pirced and i hated it thought she was trying to be a teen ager and then one day i thought dam it my belly is flat its tanned who cared what people think, so i did it and i love it so much and yes i sometimes get the looks from women but i know theyre just wondering how the hell i did it especially when my little grandson calls me nanny in public. If they want to look good its easy just dont put fat in the mouth. Im having my new ring designed and it cost a grand so its staying for a long time. for those who show it all shorts skirts low back and cleavage, think of what your image is saying and think of how interesting your chirstmas presnts would be if they came unwrapped. | |

Oh and this can be done, no matter if it is that little black dress or a hand knitted sweater, a pair of shorts and hiking boots.

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 2/25/2006 10:06:50 PM | My best thought on this: Dress appropriately for the situation.
For a formal event the little black dress is the best way to go, along with fabulous jewelry.
I'd say the little top and shorts are fine for the beach. To me that's beach wear, and look appropriate there.
Hiking boots when hiking, bathing suits (and little tops too) for the beach, and nice looking clothes that fit the activity for the rest of the time.
Neatness counts, too! I am quite tired of seeing women so slovenly dressed at the mall. These are the women (and guys too) who wear oversized T shirts flopped out over their pants. It looks TERRIBLE!!! An athletic outfit worn neatly looks better than anything, even designer clothes, that's worn in such a sloppy fashion!
Tuck the shirts in--it looks much more attractive, and is neater. You don't have to be a slob to be comfortable. There are plenty of nice clothes on the market that are comfortable. And, for those with limited finances, plenty of nice clothes can be found at Goodwill (psst--even people WITH money shop there to get their money's worth!!) or Salvation Army. The sales at department stores are also a good resource for nice, attractive clothes.
Ladies, please be classy, tasteful, and have a little pride!

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 2/26/2006 4:22:20 AM | Dress the way you feel! I'm 43 and skateboard, ride a mini chopper, play baseball, hockey with the kids and anything else i can. so for me i dress as i always have, t's and jeans and yeah i go with some of todays cloths, but i've also had 4 kids, and some parts just didn't bounce back to where they were suppose to , so i'm not gonna let it "all hang out" either. The key that everyone is saying and i totally agree is do it with class.
This isn't ment to be rude, but if you have a donut ring happen'n, then heck don't be letting it roll over you hipsters, it just doesn't look good! But it just doesn't stop with cloths, how about make up? The older we get the less we should wear, but there are some who still insist on doing the 70's blue eye shadow and a ton of foundation. It is a fact, Less is more. I've never been big on make-up more of the wash and go type, all i do is the mascarra and some blush I think my skin thanks me for it too.
hmm should change my nic, to ramblin' Ronnie
sorry | |

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 2/26/2006 7:51:32 AM | Well, I try to dress in a way that shows my assets, and leaves a little bit to the imagination. I have a very feminine form, and I love clothes, I work selling womens clothing. I say women should dress in a way that pleases THEM. If it pleases them to dress to impress, and they have the hot bod to get away with it, I say go for it! You are welcome guys! | |

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 2/26/2006 3:04:31 PM | Thanks mobiledj for the compliment! An additional post...I have a flat belly, but will not be adding any belly ring type jewelry to it. My thinking is that while I may have it goin on now, time does march on, and I cannot think of anything much uglyier than loose skin around that diamond jewel...fun & sexy on the young, but gotta be realistic. PS: no distrespect of womanofstubstance here...sorry girlfriend...you are a hottie...this post just reflects MY opinon! | |

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 2/26/2006 3:50:43 PM | I am a woman in my 40's but I must admit that it is VERY difficult trying to locate "Misses" clothing that fits me. I am very physically fit. I work out 6 mornings a week and I live a very healthy lifestle when it comes to my nutritional needs. Most "Misses" department sizes begin at size 4 or 6. Depending on the article of clothing, shorts and pants are way too big on me. I am 5 ft 6 inches tall and very thin so I am too tall to wear petite pants or shorts. NO woman that takes care of herself wants to wear "baggy clothing". I am currently a size 2 but even some 2's are too large for me. Where is a woman in her early 40's supposed to shop when every thing in the department stores are too large for her? I would NEVER wear short shorts and short skirts up the butt like some juniors do BUT what do you suggest a women of MY age to wear? SURE, I can find a few things at a boutique that may fit me but I personally do not want to spend $100.00 on a pair of pants when I work at a casual job. Every day skirts are not an option. I like to dress comfortably. Any suggestions? | |

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 2/26/2006 4:11:23 PM | Suggestions for Cuspofgemini Try consignment shops. Lots of very fashionable, rich ladies get BIGGER as they age. If we are fit and wear small sizes, we will have more selection at consignment boutiques. We want the '$100 pants' in size 2, and other pretty, fashionable clothing...but don't wanna pay the high prices...ck it out! I agree, JR clothing is not for me at this age&stage, but I work hard at not lookin 'frumpy', and I am single & want to reflect a youthful attitude...I want to dress to impress! Most of all, I think style is a reflection of my personality...I am going to dress in a way that makes me feel happy, confident, & sexy too!! | |

I mean, why would anyone have to ask strangers on the internet (a dating site, no less) what is appropriate dress? Come on.
