| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 2/26/2006 5:29:01 PM | Boutiques are excellent for the deals of the century if you know where to look. I recently went to a boutique and bought two nice black skirts for $25. They were originally around $100 EACH. So taking the time to pop into a boutique and seeing what's on sale is a great way to find some great clothes at reasonable prices. And to my delight both of my skirts are American-made. Now I'm going to be checking out the boutiques more often.
I found that I liked the personal, friendly service at the boutique. It was a refreshing change from the sometimes impersonal large department stores.
So, give the boutique a chance. You are helping a small business while also getting some good deals.
It is fun to hear what people have to say about various fashion tips.
Happy shopping!!

Why does being 'very fit' have anything to do with it?
Fit or not we still have to get dressed at some point

It's just a bull session about fashions and people's thoughts on it. Please mellow out, my friend, and move to a forum that interests you more.
More on boutiques: I like consignment shops, as well. You also would be pleasantly surprised by what you would find at a Goodwill or Salvation Army store.
Again, happy shopping!! I'm just a poor student, but I sure can still find good deals to help me look as nice as possible. If I can do it, you sure can :-)
Cheers,

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 2/26/2006 5:45:52 PM | | Appropriate, for what situation, and frowned upon by women, what women? Why be that concerned with what other people think. If depends on who and what you're dressing for. Appropriateness would be not wearing a halter top and shorts to a funeral or wedding, for instance. Outside of that and whatever dress codes for a place of employment, I would think that whatever is appropriate is whatever you're comfortable wearing. Clothes are a means of self expression, if you want to wear something that reveals your belly button, then why not? Me personally I dress for the comfort of the situation, I wouldn't wear high heels to an amusement park, for example. I say wear what you think looks good on you and screw being a slave to fashion. But hey, that's just me. | |

We start out wearing diapers and start wearing them again when old age and incontinence strikes......in between that we should wear whatever we want....LOL
BTWbucs...nice pics of you on SAS's profile.

Well said!! I agree with the importance of dressing appropriately for the situation and being comfortable.
Yes, one can look "sexy" but also be comfortable.

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 2/26/2006 6:53:54 PM | | I've said before in regards to marketing and fasion. Many sheep...baa... And I really am a female but not into shopping. The trends the hemlines...AKK!! I'll wear what I want and if I can't find a pump, I won't buy shoes. I loved the Munsters, but if I have to buy a pair of shoes, dress or casual with the big thick heels, forget it. It it means I don't buy shoes, I won't. If it means wearing something that hasn't been in "style" but I like, well kiss it, I'll wear it. I know what I like and that's what I wear. I couldn't care less if I'm on the upside or downside of a trend. Yawn...my clothes and my style are always totally me, I like it and doesn't matter how does or doesn't. | |

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 5/18/2006 7:34:41 PM | How does the "very fit 40 yr old" want to present themselves? And in what situation? I am 48, in decent shape. My style isn't so in your face. The power comes from knowing I am a desirable woman and choosing who gets to see my assets and showing some discrimination sends signals to the kind of man I look to attract. Personally, I am not into sloppy. Go to Europe and see how easy it is to spot Americans. Dressing "my age" does not mean frumpy or dowdy. I Know what looks good on me,...and guys, I promise never to ask if anything I wear makes me look fat, please compromise by not asking if it was good for me. ROFL. What image crops up when I whisper 60 yr old? Goldie Hawn is 60. Bet that wasn't your first image. lol. | |

Posted: 5/18/2006 7:47:49 PM | When I turn 40, I'm going to dress up just as I dress up now.Just because you become older in age does not mean you are older from inside.Yes, OP there is nothing wrong if you want to show your tight ,fit stomach. All those women saying otherwise are just jealous.Don't listen to them.

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 5/18/2006 10:51:21 PM | I'm almost 40 and I wear jeans studded belts and rock t-shirts mostly. I feel like that is dressing down and being plain compared to how I used to dress. I still wear fishnets mini skirts and platform boots sometimes too.
I wouldn't show off my belly being that it's fat, but if (and when) I get fit from working out, damn right I'd show it off. Just because you're older it doesn't mean you all of a sudden have to wear turtlenecks with little animals on them and clogs.

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 5/18/2006 10:58:30 PM | You have to even ask eyelin???
Have a look through the post about cleavage on the first date.
The guy asked, perfectly innocently, if the girl was trying to send a mess of hidden messagesadn didn't have the girls on the board get all self righteout and jump down his throat about that one.
ie girls should be able to wear what they choose without being hassled out about it etc.
Well???
Once again. Why do you ask.???
You KNOW that if I listed any opinons on appropriate dress that ANYBODY else didn't agree with then it would cause an uproar.
So why do you ask.??
Do you want to know my personal taste in clothing. Thats' fine. But thats just my taste. Thats about all.

Now let me see??????? I'm about the same age. And wear leather jackets, when riding my motobike.
And stretch jeans and roller blades.
And helmets, --- when falling off either.
Hairy chests are no longer trendy but I still shoe it off as I hate constricting neck wear.
And non fashionable facial hair for warmpth on cold days, on motorcycles or roller blades.

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 5/7/2007 8:10:56 PM | Why is it always that dressing sexy is assumed to be with mini skirts, showing belly buttons or cleavage? Isn't that playing into the hand of the commercy and keeping women Sex objects?
Why not dress sexy but yet classy? Now there's something that would be a challenge..

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 5/8/2007 5:48:49 AM | I realize that this isn't going to be a popular opinion, but I personally feel exposed navels is tacky at any age. Unless you are at the beach, your midsection should be covered, whether you are 16 or 50.
There is nothing wrong with dressing in a youthful way, but I think dressing like a teenager at 40 plus actually makes a woman look older rather than younger. I am very fit also, but I go for the classy, elegant look, and I get lots more attention than dressing like a 15 year old.
I am not saying it is time to retire to housecoats and Mom jeans, but at least be tasteful. Ever watch "What Not to Wear?" Very good tips for all of us.

One of the sexiest outfits I have ever put together was a black below knee length skirt with a side split up past knee, a black sweater, black seamed stockings and red 5" stiletto heeled pumps. ....no skin really just MAJOR impact.

I personally think every women (& man), of most all ages & sizes (well, perhaps except the very obese), should dress as sexy (or not), as they feel. I like the way I look, & I like the way I dress & no, I'm not "very fit", I'm kind-of in between average- a few extra pounds, but I think confidence & attitude are sexy. It's more important to be yourself & be comfortable & confident.
I have a friend here, who is a photogrpaher & he was always telling me I should dress more conservatively, if I want to meet nice guys. And I told him, very bluntly, "Dude, I have no desire to look like your mum. Okay? If you think old- fashioned = narrow-minded, well, it's a free country & you are entitled to your opinion. I have no interest in listening to the fashion-Nazis. And how fair is it, to use a picture of an outfit I would normally never be caught dead in, to attract someone?! Wouldn't that be "deceptive advertising?" And, more likely to attract Mr. Wrong, than Mr. Right, IMO.
