| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 5/26/2007 5:36:54 PM | THE RULE:
Since fashions repeat themselves, with small variations, ie. mini skirts, bell bottoms, low riders, etc...
IF YOU WERE WEARING IT WHEN IT LAST WAS IN FASHION, YOU DON'T WEAR IT WHEN IT COMES BACK IN STYLE!!
That's the only "age rule" I've heard on fashion. Beyond that I guess it's just about choosing what looks best with your body type and where you're going.
Also, trying too hard to look sexy is never in fashion at any age. I liked the unwrapped Xmas present analogy. Guys may break their necks gawking, but it would be foolish to assume their gaze is flattering. Lots of guys I know will check out a "tarted out" chic and then make snide remarks about her loose morals or empty head.

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 5/27/2007 1:19:23 AM | Well its all about "choice" aint it? Im 40 in nov and I think I look good in certain clothes. i do have my belly button pierced but only show it off when i have my bikini and for my man!! My 2 kids think its great and are very proud of the fact that im a "young" looking mum. But i would not dress like a 20 yr old, cos i like to think that im classy. You can show off ur figure in a classy was and the way u presesnt yourself. In private.... its a whole different ball game lol and i can assure you my man loves it!!! I do look after my body and its really paid off. But having said that i eat lots of junk!! Moral is.... hell its a free country and we all have opinions.... but do what makes u feel good and forget about other people!!! | |

If all the guys are checking you out and smiling, and you suddenly find young and old men are all trying it on, then you look good.
If all the guys are turning away, or trying to look away, then you know you're mutton dressed as lamb.
I've met women in their mid 40s, who look like very attractive 25-year olds. Most young guys try it on, and get a shock when they say they're too young for these women. I've even seen women on here in their 50s, who could carry off showing your midriff. You're not alone. My sis first got a flat stomach when she was 36. Put up some pics, though. It's always great to see women over 30 who look good.

Given that, you should make yourself as attractive as you can. Women that are fit, should wear things that show this off. If they have six-pack abs, then the shirt can most certianly show that.
Personally, if my woman did everything she could to make herself look good for me, I would do everything I could to please her. I love walking in a bar with a date and all the guys are just drooling. For years, I have been the one doing the drooling. Over the past couple of years, I have finally decided that I want to be with a very nice looking woman that wants to dress in the fashion of today and look as good as she can for me. Why not? If she looks that good, I am going to treat her like a goddess!

Tame Tigress - if I did that I'd be naked!
Lol. Yeah. By that standard some of us would be relegated to wearing animal skins and palm fronds.
Er...has that been done too?

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 6/1/2007 5:11:58 PM | Well I am almost 42 and still keep myself fit enough to wear the odd revealing top or close fit jeans......
I tend to dress more classy now though and wear what tends to enhance what I am. But I have shown my belly button on a few occassions. I have no fat as yet or stretch marks and see no harm in it. Its all about choices of the individual though really.

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 6/2/2007 1:59:22 PM | Im 41 and tiny(somewhatfit very thin an petite-I get mistaken as akid sometimes because of stature:P I htink we should dress in what makes us comfortable but its also what do you wan tot present to people? Professional? stuck ina time warp?I dont think it appropriate for us(this is my opinion only)No low riders-clubbing days are gone...and the teenie boppers or 20 somethings and teens wear them. Some are ok but too low-with the thong showing-nah. as for the belly..I was never into it so I cant really answer it. I just know I MAY agree an dI may not..I htin kit depends upon how it looks. Not seeing your photo I cant comment and thats quite judgemental. Do you want to be seen for YOU -which is your insides anyway. You can LOOK great but maybe save it for someone important to see? I dunno.I still dress in shorter shorts(They look normal onme because I am so short) shorter skirts but not super short(IM aprofessional and try to look the part) we shodlnt be judged upon appearance but we are Its jsut afact. so again I ask-how do you want to appear to others? You cant tell me you dotn care what people think because you already know you re casuing a ruckus with your tone tummy:) by exposing it. We all want to be looked at but its the what impression do we want to make?to cause the ruckus?Or to not and be seen for more then the body? Iguess in the end its all up to you. happies whatever you do | |

Posted: 6/2/2007 10:36:54 PM | I wear jeans at work- never the kind that shows your underwear- the teens and 20 somethings wear those...........and it looks awful! If you're going for a walk, to the grocery store; and its hot out- why can't you wear clothes that show your legs and your abs?? I shock the people at work when I tell them I just turned 40- last summer a customer asked me if was my summer job Besides- what is 40 supposed to look like??? Is it perfect hair and full makeup; ironed blouses and slacks...........to go to the corner store?? Not for me! I think it also depends on where you live.

Is it appropiate for her to show thier belly button? If you think no then why cleavage or short skirt. It all depends on what you wish to flaunt and what you feel is appropriate. It wasn't too long ago that shirts and blouses for women completely covered their midriff. Sometime in the 90s women got the idea to go naked midriff (along with navel piercing); it became stylish; along with the low rising jeans which allow a lady to advertise her tramp stamp if she has one.
A more classic look is of course not to flaunt one's belly, not to pierce it, not to have boobs hanging out, not to wear such a short skirt that allows people to look up the crotch, not to go overboard with the tattoos, etc. You know, leave something to the imagination.

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 8/20/2007 10:25:38 AM | | my personal school of thought on this one is , dress the way you feel comfortable, doesnt matter what other women or men for that matter think, its about being an individual, | |

| How should a very fit 40 year old dress? Posted: 11/12/2008 4:02:23 PM | | i agree with you entirely. Class is also sex appeal. Slinky dresses, high heels, sheer stockings, snug jeans and slacks are as hot as midriff-beating tops and short-shorts that show half your ass-ets. That is just tacky. I have a great body but I refuse to abuse it like that. I wouldn't insult myself or my impressionable teenaged daughter that way. | |

Posted: 11/12/2008 5:11:25 PM | | Yes I can see that this thread is from years ago but I still wanted to comment that it just looks tacky for a grown woman to be dressing like a 19 year old would. Even the 19 year olds look tacky , but at least they look like everyone else their age. You can look sexy and show off your body in a tasteful way.
