And one's appearence should not dictate the types of emails or whatever they get. If that were the case, I'm guessing you must get tons of emails from overweight truckers, trailer-trash and fat dudes? | |

I think grammar and spelling is a highly appropriate screening method given all the mail a woman would get on a dating site. Why would you bother giving someone the time of day if you honestly cannot understand his/her writing? | |

Posted: 12/8/2005 3:53:56 PM | I don't teach first grade anymore, but I have in the past. In all the grades I have taught, beginning a sentence with "and" is just not allowed.
Now let's face it--forum posting and instant messaging is a much more casual form of communication. Spelling and grammar issues don't scream so loudly, and we must remember that typos account for a lot of the errors. Since for most of us, we think much faster than our fingers move on the keyboard--I often overlook the occasional error, including my own.
Now, a profile is a totally different matter. In my opinion, when putting yourself out there for the masses, you should create a profile that is comprehensible at the very least. The same goes for an initial email contact. Once communication has begun, and becomes more casual, then there is not as much need to check for the occasional error. | |
