Why are you getting all offended now? You just said that you could never be attracted to a shorter guy, and now your getting defensive because some people think that tall girls are freaks?

I note that in my profile but the shorter guys still respond...which is admirable, I guess. Shows they're not intimidated by tall girls. And I have guy friends that would make really great partners...just not for me. Somebody should invent a "man stretcher" then if we found a short one that we really liked, we could "adjust to size."

If you "really liked" them, then go for it. What does it matter that you're taller?

Posted: 12/26/2006 2:08:32 PM | SweetPeaJulia, i am tall and i don't necessarily agree that it's height that keeps your big guys away. you don't provide a picture, so the question is are you intimidating for other reasons? i have a strong personality in business, but i tame it when i'm with my man (that is if he 'moves' me with his masculinity). i do agree that lots of shorter men go after tall women, but i am not sure that is height related either. maybe it's just statistics that you come across more men shorter than you. everyone has a type. some tall men like shorter women and some like taller. often you can trace it back to their "mommies".
another thing, when short women tell me they wish they were taller (my girls are short), i remind them that when you are looking good that day, you really stand out. by the same token, if it's "one of those", you still stand out. when i was a teen, i modeled and learned how to walk, etc. i often, if feeling awkward in a particular situation where i wish i could hide, just pretend i am walking to the music that i like to dance to (there's that dangling preposition again!).
also, if a short guy has personality and confidence it can work. i dated a guy 5'6" for quite a while and he could move me around on a dance floor quite easily. no awkwardness, not even slow dancing. then again, i've danced with tall guys such as my ex (6'6"), who was quite awkward on the dance floor. sooooooooooo, it's all in the MOVES girl! | |

Posted: 12/27/2006 7:48:10 AM | I'm 5.6" tall and my short stature had always been an impediment for achieving poise and self-confidence. It was about two years ago that I met my wife and we almost instantly made connection. She is about half an inch shorter than me but I would always feel a little insecure whenever she wore sandals. This would make her look much taller than myself. Not that anything wrong with that but society collectively feeds us with some stereotypes and a guy shorter than a woman would always raise eyebrows. My wife (who back then was my girlfriend) was conscious of myself being a little uneasy. She started coaching me on improving my dress coordination and also suggested that I should try wearing those walktall shoes. Doing a little research myself I gathered some info on stretching exercises. Although it’s true that exercises will not make you grow taller but it definitely helped me improve my posture. We certainly have more height hidden behind our slouched back and shabby dressing than we ever realize. There are some very basic stretching exercises and vertical fashion techniques that together can make a noticeable improvement in your height. And lastly it’s all a matter of perception. It all boils down to how we perceive ourselves. A better height can add to our confidence, but again, it’s our mind that perhaps makes us insecure. Some short dudes possess endless energy that makes their presence much taller than their height. Men are afraid of rejection or should I say loathe rejection so because of this we might tend to shy away from taller women especially if we read about how women hate shorter men. I don't think height has anything to do with attraction. The only thing height changes is the sexual fantasies.
Conclusion! You got it backwards & you admited yourself. It's not men who dislike tall women, it's women who insist that their man be taller then them along with being richer then them.

I`m tall 5'8" and not what is considered " skinny" nor am I fat and i haven`t had any probs. I`ve met a great guy through the site and he`s 6`3" and likes me just the way I am . Any man of true substance will love the woman they are with for whats on the inside .. and I don`t mean the size label either. but being tall is just a bonus ( in his eyes). | |

Posted: 12/27/2006 8:16:08 PM | I'm not sure where the "don't like" idea came from... maybe some don't. Some guys don't like cats; some do. I dunno who dislikes tall women as a group. Just as several other guys have posted, I usually find them impressive and attractive. Intimidating depends on her personality. If she's friendly and approachable by mortals and keeps herself in reasonably fit and attractive condition, I'll like being around her and so will most other guys. Yeah, I know many women don't like men to be overweight either. But more don't like the fact that I'm slim. Go figure. Guess they want Arnie before he lost weight. And I find that now at 50+, I'm an inch lower to the ground. At 30, I was 6 feet tall! Age does that.
So, Aftermidnite, has anyone told you what it is about the way you carry yourself that intimidates? Is your normal expression a smile or something more the opposite? You might want to think over what you're projecting and why you do it. It's probably just habit. Try something different and see.
Many men (especially many of the divorced) have a fear of getting involved with an unhappy and un-pleasable woman. A happy and pleasant one, on the other hand, is like soft rain on parched ground. She can bring the nearly dead heart to life.

I don't useually go for girls under 5' feet though. I just don't want to have to bend way over to kiss them. Over 5' is where I put my own cutoff. I'm known to max my back out doing work and.... well other things, so bending over too far can sometimes (when I hurt myself) be rough for me. Would hate to be in that situation is all, so I try to avoid it by setting that limit. | |
