Posted: 8/22/2007 2:25:44 PM | I always wanted to know the answer to this as well, why guys don't seem interested in tall women. I'm 5'11". Yes, it's hard to miss me in a crowd.
When I was single, and now again, after my divorce, when I go out, there are lots of looks (gawked at would be more appropriate). But, it's not until these same guys have been drinking a bit that they approach me. I have never understood that. But, all the sober ones just stare. It's not terribly flattering, or comfortable. | |

Many women on POF and other dating sites have height requirements mentioned on their profile. There have been several threads when a woman would ask 'if men would date tall a women'. Most men claimed they would date a tall woman. Most of the men that wouldn't date a taller woman were over 6 ft tall. Very few women would be taller than than a man who is 6 ft tall. There have also been plenty of threads where short men have complained about being turned down by taller women due to height.
Because of my own insecurites with height issues ... I KNOW I have personally lost out on many great guys simply because the idea of me being taller makes me feel sooooo unfeminine.
At least this woman admits she doesn't date shorter men due to her insecurities instead of stating that most shorter men wouldn't date her due to her height like some other tall women try to claim. | |

Basically...I think it's an instinctive thing that guys like short girls because taller girls especially ones who are attractive are quite intimidating. A lot of the dispositions towards you would be along the lines of "she's so good...she wouldn't even look at a guy like me". It takes a special kind of guy who's confident enough to approach a tall girl.
As a short woman I would seriously take offense to that statement.

Tall girls are often overlooked for 'relationships', but are in with the rest of the girls when it comes to *cough* alternative relationships. I can't really say for sure what prompts this, but I have an idea that it comes down to gender roles. What woman wants to bend over to kiss her guy all the time? What guy wants to fall into the protective (mommy-like?) embrace of a very tall girlfriend?
I've tried to date men of various heights, the shortest being 5'6", and it wasn't a pleasant experience. There's something demeaning when a guy always wants you to stand on the decline.
But I agree with another poster who said they want to feel feminine with a boyfriend. Being able to see the part in my guy's hair doesn't make me feel particularly girlish.
Oddly enough, you're always seeing these insanely short girls with guys that have a foot on us tall girls. Talk about not fair! 
But when is dating ever fair? | |

Posted: 8/23/2007 1:40:48 AM | I've never dated a girl taller than me and to be honest I think a 6'5" or taller woman would be a little bit intimidating! My first ever girlfriend was 4'10" and I'm 6'4" so we made a right pair!! Lots of Little and Large comments!!
I think it would be cool to date a tall lass (6ft or so) but to be honest, it's not high on my list of priorities. | |

I am not intimidated by a tall gal. Every woman is different, each has their own special qualities. Tall gals are alot of fun.
Most of the tall gals like to hold on to a tall man. They don't like the feeling of holding a little short guy. They say it is like hugging one of their kids. And they say they don't get very excited hugging someone with the stature of their little kids.
Don't settle for less than what you want. The tall guys will come to you when they see the munskins aren't getting any where with you.
Be proud of your height. I won't go into it but you have one very special quality a short gal can't offer. | |

Tall girls are often overlooked for 'relationships' I have never discounted a woman as a romantic interest solely due to her height. Often a BBW reasons it's her height that prevents her from getting dates, but it's more a function of her weight than her height. I prefer not to date women who approach my weight--usually taller women weigh more than shorter women.
I can't really say for sure what prompts this, but I have an idea that it comes down to gender roles. The only reason that I've read in these forums that made any sense about a taller woman's preference for tall men was she claimed she was uncomfortable with shorter men because in her family everyone was tall; growing up these people influenced her attitude and it was what it was.
Attributing it to "gender roles" is illogical, saying a woman doesn't want to "bend over to kiss her guy" doesn't make sense if the guy is only a couple of inches shorter, she isn't bending over (at least not to kiss her guy). Assuming a shorter guy doesn't want mommy-like protection is ASS-umptive and a negative attitude--not attractive. A girlish attitude should come from within, if not that's a needy person in my eyes. | |

I think long legs on a woman is sexy and plus, since I am 6'0, I don't like bending down to kiss a woman, I like being around the same height, so a woman around 5'8 is the perfect height for me. | |

Posted: 8/26/2007 6:14:00 PM | I have never figured out why "most" men prefer shorter women. I love my height at practically 5'10" and with heels I'm 6'0." It doesn't really bother me as an adult but it did when I was a young teenager and still taller than all the guys. I was grateful when they caught up and surpassed me in height. I do however prefer to date taller men. I like that feeling of a protector when the man is taller than me. I also like my shoes so I want to be able to wear any of them and at least look the man in the eye and not look down.
I do think that a lot of men are intimidated by tall women. I can walk through a room full of people and usually, due to my height, catch the eye of most men. I smile or say hi when I pass by and they just stand there with this "duh" look on their face. It's kind of funny in a way. They could say hi right back. I am friendly and very approachable. I don't bite. I am very proportionate for my height and am not overweight so I don't think that is the problem either.
My favorite time that I used my height to my advantage though was when I was a Branch Manager for a bank. I was sitting at my desk in my heels and business suit when a rather new customer came in and was upset that a check was returned and wanted to complain. He talked to some others and I could see and hear he was angry and was insisting he "Talked to the Manager." He ultimately got to my desk and right as began to chew on me, I stood up, reached out to shake his hand and introduced myself and asked him to take a seat at my desk. I was about 4-5 inches taller than the man and when he looked up and saw me his knees just about buckled beneath him. He immediately sat down in the chair and quit complaining loudly. Became very passive and changed his tone. Began saying "Yes Ma'am and No Ma'am." It was so funny! I refunded his NSF charges and he never tried to raise his voice to me again. He always called me "Ma'am" after that day. Still makes me laugh. | |
