Well, that makes sense and I appreciate your answer.

Would you consider a guy who had a beer or two almost every night after work or while watching the TV a heavy drinker? Would you consider a guy who smoked a bowl before bed or while watching a movie a heavy pot smoker?

I know that is more than occasional use... or social for that matter.. but I am just trying to get an idea of where your battle lines are drawn.

My intention is not to provoke and argument or anything.. just a friendly debate.

I do consider someone who has a couple of beer every/almost every night a heavy drinker and/or a drinker with a problem and as such I wouldnt be with him
and
I would not consider the daily smoking of pot occasional and as such would not date him

My lines are drawn a little differently I guess. I wouldn't consider someone who had a drink or two a day a heavy drinker, nor a bowl or two.. but I would consider it more than occasionally or social.

I would rather date the pot smoker over the alcohol drinker though..

Both of those things clash with me, my life-style and my standards
I see it as interferring in our relationship since I am only a social drinker, non smoker and non drug user
So why invite trouble

I can understand that, especially that fact that you don't smoke anything at all. It is hard for a non-smoker to tolerate a smoker of any sort. Are ya one of those reformed smokers or were you always a non-smoker.

I have quit smoking but that is not a reformed smoker.
I quit in the summer of 1994
I never was a heavy smoker anyway
I had quit smoking in 1988 and started again in late 1993
So since 1988 I've smoked less than a year
I never smoked during any of my pregnacies or while nursing
The fact remains- smokers smell and taste nasty (as did I when I smoked)

I wouldn't consider you one of "those" reformed smokers then. Those ones make me laugh.. sort of like some of the "born again" Christian types.

As I've said before, if I drink, the chances of someone else getting drunk because I do are pretty slim. If someone smokes up and I'm in a car or small room or even apartment with them I DO inhale some of their second hand smoke, I can't choose not to if I'm there. I don't care if you smoke up, just not around me thanks. Just the smell of it grosses me out anyway.

As for driving, when you're under the influence of anything, it's illegal and immoral. You could kill someone. And don't even bring up the fact that you could hit someone when fully awake and alert, yes of course you could and in that case it would most likely be considered an accident, not vehicular manslaughter while DUI.

No, I wouldn't say not wanting to kiss a smoker or have them smoke in your home militant. It's the people preaching and browbeating people for smoking, when they had previously smoked themselves, that makes it militant. Whenever I wasn't smoking (had stopped from 1999 to 2004) I never criticised anyone for smoking. Actually, enjoyed the smell of it. But that is a personal preference.

In my opinion a reformed smoker is just a person who no longer smokes. Much like a reformed alcoholic no longer drinks.
It's the ex-smokers giving smokers a hard time, like telling them they smell and taste nasty, that I consider militant. Things were ok when they smoked but since they stopped they give current smokers a hard time.
Just want to point out I am using the word "they" here, not an individual.

I would say militant ex-smoker.

That was about an individual- ME

So again I ask how am I a militant ex-smoker? Yes I do think smokers smell and taste nasty which is why I dont date/kiss smokers

My daughter visiting from Toronto smokes. I didnt tell her she couldnt, but I did ask her to not smoke much because she has a little sister who looks up to her. And also she had to go out to balcony to smoke and wash when she comes in after smoking. Excuse me but the smell off her can give me a migraine.

Yes, that comment was about you. My previous post was where I was using the word they. It's not all about you. :)

I think you will find that the majority of smokers are willing to adjust to the wishes of their host. We realize that there are limited areas that we can smoke and respect most people's wishes.
