| Would you Canadians move to the U.S,Would you Americans move to Canada if you met someone on here? Posted: 7/27/2007 6:38:08 PM | | NEVER!!!! Not until you get rid of George Bush!!! There's a new book out actually. Americans are travelling Europe pretending to be Canadians. I think its called 'I want to be Canadian Aye" I would be personally scared of living in the U.S. Whilst all this is going on.... and I'm not an idiot... I've been involved in politics for quite some time.. you are all fantastic people but your president has caused many problems.... I dont think I need to say any more., but, if I were lucky enough to meet such a special man.. I would have to give moving considerable thought. | |

Online and on the phone can be extremely misleading and cause expectations and perceptions that aren't correct.
I love Canada and I love Calgary even more and wouldn't consider moving until my child is done high school in another five years. When those five years is up, I may leave Calgary for a while but I don't think I would ever leave Canada and I will all ways make it back home.
If asked that question because I was in a committed relationship with someone living in Calgary because we wanted to have an adventure or follow a dream somewhere else the answer would be totally different.
The key being that I was all ready in a committed relationship with the person.

Posted: 7/28/2007 12:17:35 PM | I would probably dip my toe and not commit 100% to living in the US to start. I would keep my apartment in Vancouver and go south in ever increasing increments of time. See how it goes from there and then work out the nitty gritty details based on the results.
It would be crazy to dive in all the way until you're sure.
I do have the advantage of a portable job though, so some of the issues that would face others I wouldn't have to worry about. As long as he's not just after me for free medical.

I think it is one of the most beautiful places in the world. In fact, i have several years to go before i retire, but, if I don't make any connections before then, i am making plans to move to Prince Edward Island. If not for the beauty, just for the tranquility and peace of mind from all my stress. I have figured it all out and have researched it at great length. I can become a dual citizen and receive my pension from the US and also a pension from PEI for an elderly citizen. i know this is the works in progress, so there is space for error, but i am willing to try anything if it involves my life and sanity. the biggest fear is getting lost on the trip up, i'm not afraid to leave the states, just afraid of getting lost and not being able to get where i want to go on time.

Posted: 7/28/2007 1:48:00 PM | | I once had to make a choice like that during a long distance relationship. She lived in florida...I live here in Ontario Canada. Basically....I could not give in to her request to move down to the states. For one thing...I like living here, most of my immediate family lives here and I also have friends here as well. When I asked her if she'd be willing to move up here....I detected a note of hesitance in her reply as she said "She might if it was worth it." I knew what her situation was like in Florida...that she had a good job at the time and was just basically getting her life back into order with her little girl. The whole relationship just seemed to end right then and there. People say that love would be enough to make the move...but to be realistic in the matter...it's also a level of comfort and stability. A regret? Perhaps...but both made wiser about what will work and what won't.

A regret? Perhaps...but both made wiser about what will work and what won't. I had a similar experience with an ex-girlfriend from Brazil. She wanted me to move there, but I knew I wasn't going to keep my job forever, and I didn't want to live in a big Brazilian city just to have a good job. Brazil actually is an extreme example of the types of problems a society has when there's a huge gap between the rich and the poor. The United States has become more like that over the past 30 years. I'm thinking about applying for permanent residency in Canada (and later citizenship), so if I find a special Canadian lady, than so much the better!
