It's about families and loved ones being together, and if they can't, then they should do the best they can. It should never be about what your given or what you give someone else.... However, there's lots of people out there that will make you feel like you have to spend major $$$ in order to be in the Christmas "spirit"..

My favorite gifts are the ones that require thought and that doesn't mean any money needs spent. I like giving gifts with meaning and just being spontaneous when choosing to give a gift. Not out of obligation. One of my favorite gifts i recieved was a calender made on the computer filled with pictures through out the year and different quotes and memories. | |

But, sooo many people get so carried away at what they spend on someone. It's always made me uncomfortable, because I honestly have never believed it was important. But, having children, you try, and I think it just makes things worse at times..My kids have learned though, that it's not about "stuff".... | |

Trouble was, she was color blind.
If we had worn them out in public, accidents would have ensued from all the stares.

We both have a love for Glenfiddich, which is very nice on special occasions, of course. Anyway, being that his body overproduces insulin instead of never having enough, that actually might still be a reality ;) | |

Posted: 9/26/2006 12:09:54 PM | I have to say my worst Christmas gift was the Christmas before I left my husband. He decided, without my consent, that, instead of getting gifts for each of the kids, we were going to buy a Nintendo Game for the family.
The older kids came to me and complained. Since I had been very ill, and I had no job, or money of my own, there wasn't much I could say, except to talk to their father. They knew better than that.
I know that presents and parties aren't the real meaning of Christmas, but tell that to your children. Unless you belong to a religious organization that doesn't celebrate Christmas, it's heart breaking to wake up Christmas morning to nothing under the tree.
For some reason, their father hates Christmas, but I know that his alcohol supply came first to him. My father was the same way. | |

But it had a couple "treasures" from my childhood inside including my "failed" grade five IQ test. It says, "___ is a very nice boy but has trouble focusing and therefore scores in an alarmingly low percentile for his age".
There's also a picture of me at ten after just getting beaten up by the local bully.
I'm going to put the crappiest things I own in this box and burry it in the yard. I should be good at digging holes by now based on my alarming IQ. Just gotta figure out which end of the shovel is up. | |

Posted: 12/24/2011 6:14:06 AM | I moved to Florida in '04 and that Christmas my brother sent me a VHS tape titled "Migrating Whales of Alaska." WTH?! Alaska??!! I didn't even own a VHS player at the time. LOL
Needless to say it's still in its cellophane and I'm thinking of actually watching that dang movie this Christmas..

Grind soybeans in it? I mean, even if we'd been meat eaters at the time . . . I've never in my life felt the need for an electric meat grinder. I finally asked her if I could exchange it. I bought a slow cooker instead and it became one of the most useful things in my kitchen. | |

Posted: 12/25/2011 10:04:17 PM | Christmas, 1981. My then husband was having an affair with someone he'd met through work while I was at home, pregnant with our child. "Home" at the time was actually my dad's house, as we'd moved in with him temporarily since the building we'd been living in didn't allow children. Husband didn't know that I suspected what was going on with him and the coworker (or was at least pretending not to know that I suspected). That Christmas Eve he kept telling me that he'd gotten me a gift that I was absolutely going to love. Then he left for the evening, telling me that he was going to put in an extra shift for a guy, delivering orders (he'd actually gone out to see his girlfriend). He got back home around 2 in the morning, then we got up at 7 a.m. to open presents with my dad and my sister and brother. When he handed me the gift from him he reiterated the fact that I'd love this present; that it was special and from the heart. I opened the box, removed the tissue paper and uncovered an electric carving knife.
Funny thing is, in looking back at all of this...I remember the first thing that ran through my head when I saw this knife sitting in the box. I wondered how on earth any man who was cheating on his pregnant wife could actually be dumb enough to sit there and hand her a weapon. And y'know, if an electrical outlet had been nearby at that moment.... | |

I think I got the earings from the three-peice set ...talk about re-gifting! God luv her...  | |
