| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 11/15/2006 5:32:54 PM | I am a smoker, and I have been on both sides of the fence. before I started smoking , I dated a smoker, and yes, the smell sucks, the kisses are disgusting, and it just over-all reeked. Now that I smoke, I am aware of how it makes other people feel, so I try my best not to kiss anyone after cigarettes, and when im dating a non-smoker to keep it to a minimum the best I can when im around them. However, it is very difficult for non-smokers to date smokers, and I'm sure with good reason. but honestly...if the person is worth seeing past that and seeing the person behind the smoke, then its all good. If they cant accept it, dont try to "quit" for them, because its not worth it, if they cant accept you for this flaw, they probly aren't the one for you anyway in the end. so keep hunting :-) | |

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 11/17/2006 9:52:55 PM | Hmmm. Not sure. I'm a non-smoker, myself. Never dated a smoker, never kissed one. I've been told it's nasty to kiss a smoker, but I wouldn't know. In a weird way, I kinda want to try it, just to see what it's like. I would never let anybody smoke in my house, and I really, really, really wouldn't like it if someone smoked in my car, so that might be an obstacle for a relationship...but based on what I know NOW, I wouldn't rule out a relationship with a smoker. Even though I, myself, would never smoke (I have enough allergy problems as it is), I have to confess that chicks look kinda sexy when they're smoking. (The author ducks to dodge rotten fruit being tossed in his direction.) Also, regardless of my personal feelings about smoking, I DESPISE anti-smoking fascism. I've got a bit of a libertarian streak, and unreasonable restrictions on smoking offend me on principle. javascript:smilie(' ') | |

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 11/18/2006 6:22:37 AM | In the words of Groucho Marx.. "pardon me if I do not smoke"
I was married to a smoker and a very inconsiderate one as well. He smoked in our home , he even smoked in bed. I had no idea how that god awful smell lingers in your home long after the smoker is gone. Kissing a smoker is a very unpleasant experience. I am a very strongly opposed to smoking. Watching my father die due to his habit will not be long forgotten. I looked at him on his death bed being maintained by machines and wondered if smoking cigarettes were worth it to him.
Would I date a smoker??? I have and will not again.

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 11/18/2006 6:56:11 AM | | Why even bother? I am also a smoker and I've had guys tell me "oh, i don't smoke but its ok if you do." Yea, right, if I GO OUTSIDE! LOL!!! I smoke in my house, in my car and when I want to smoke I want to smoke. Most people who don't smoke don't want it in their house, or their car and "tolerate" you, but really don't want to be around smoking at all. If someone contacts me or seems interested in me and they don't smoke, I usually tell them right up front that is a major problem between us and I'd rather not pursue any type of relationship. I think a lot of relationships break up because of stupid issues just like this one. People get together because they are attracted physically to each other and then six months later when they come out of the wild sex stupor they realize they really have nothing in common and can't stand each other or the habits of each other. People should be able to fit into each other's lives comfortably. If too much changing has to happen then it will never work. | |

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 11/18/2006 8:11:06 AM | I see you CAUGHT a lot of heat with this question. I just noticed that this forum goes back to last year and yet got picked up again recently.
My mom smoked like a chimney. 2 cartons a week she was up to. When I was 15 and she got pregant with my sister she switched to "Lights". She smoked through both pregnancies of me and my other sister. In school when it was the great smoke off or whatever where you're supposed to go the day without cigarettes she never even tried. Growing up with my mother being so inconsiderate of how much we despised it, I took a stand and told her she couldn't smoke in my house - she could go outside. She wouldn't come so that made it simple. She was so BURIED in her addiction.
I saw one of the other guys here say he would DATE a smoker, he just would'nt KISS one. Right there, that's what it boils down to. One kiss. MAAAAYYYYBEEE if they were a social smoker, like one when having a drink out with friends, fine. But then you always have the chance that they will relapse or something and kissing a smoker is NASTY. If you ever quit, you'll know.
When my mom was in the hospital for the THIRD time with congestive heart failure and some other issues, I pulled the doctor aside and told him that for the sake of the safety of his STAFF I suggest he put her on the patch. I also told him that I believe my mom to be depressed and asked if he'd put her on an antidepressant. He gave her both. She came out of the hospital either 7-10 days later and hasn't had a cigarette since. Said she never even craved it. We're talking about a woman here who wouldn't even TRY to quit and that was her magic****ail, so if you're feeling like you'd like to see how the other half lives, maybe you can try it out. Don't like it.... your cigarettes will always take you back.
It's a dealbreaker. I'm sometimes sorry for that too, because I'll read a profile that looks SOOOOO good, but I know I can't handle that and I don't want to try. Thankfully my teenage son feels the same way. He'll look at a girl and also be turned off.
Good luck in your quest. I'm thinking that in the end, you'll be sticking with your own.

I would say this is far from a stupid issue.. a rather serious one at that. You may smoke yourself to death Sunset if you want and you are right you should not be in a relationship with someone who chooses to keep their lungs clear and healthy. I hope you have a good supply of febreeze in your home , because I bet it reeks of stagnant nasty residue from smoke.Oh yes do your family a favor get a pre-paid funeral plan for yourself. Would be a darn shame for them to have to*cough* up so much money when you cut years off of your life.

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 11/22/2006 2:14:34 PM | | Nothing like taking something out of context LOL! and wow, arent YOU judgemental! but you'd lose that bet. My home is clean and smells clean. I also use air purifiers. As far as cutting years off my life? I'll be leaving this earth when it is my time and not before. So, while I will open mouth and insert cigarette, I see that you chose to open mouth and insert foot! When people ask for other people's opinion, that is all it is. Everybody has one. Too bad you feel the need to slam someone when they give it. And you should hope nobody starts analyzing all the "bad" things you do. | |

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 11/22/2006 2:26:37 PM | You are an attractive man,so there is no reason why you should not be able to get a date, but I happen to be allergic to cigarette smoke and end up in hospital from the exposure to it. My health is worth more than the medical bills incurred from being around it and besides it makes a person's clothes and hair stink. No ill intent meant.Just being honest.Good luck.Barb | |

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 11/23/2006 2:00:27 AM | Sunset good for you if your house smells good , but its highly unlikely, smokers rarely notice how bad their place smells because they are use to the smell. If you walk through the door of a smokers home that smokes IN THE HOUSE that odor is obvious. I have many friends that are smokers and the majority will not even smoke inside their own homes, they do not want their homes and belongings to be saturated with the smell of cigarettes.
Just so you know I am not being judgemental , just terribly concerned about the terribly damaging effects of cigarettes. Yes its your personal choice to fill your lungs with a very dangerous substance. I am assuming that you have family members who love you. They will be very dismayed if they have to watch you suffer when you become another statistic . Its devastating to watch someone struggle when they can hardly breathe.

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 11/23/2006 9:28:15 AM | Okay, smokers don't necissarily take an unnaceptable amount of "smoke breaks". We step out every few hours, and you could step out for fresh air if you wanted. You chose not to. Not our problem.
Stop being so closed minded. The way you're talking, not even a girl who DOESN'T smoke would want to be with you. Tool.

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 1/14/2007 3:03:23 PM | | Go up in an airplane and look down on what everyone is breathing 24/7. If people realized, they would see the folly of blaming all their problems on smokers. I enjoy a nice smoke but please don't pass gas near me. | |

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 1/14/2007 3:15:52 PM | I'm finding it more difficult to date these days because I'm a smoker. Don't do the illegal smoking, only the legal. Does anybody else (I know there are) have the same problem? Can the opposite sex tolerate us? I'd like some positive views about it. I know that there will be negative views also. I'm not much of a drinker, but, I don't mind dating a woman who likes to have a few drinks. Now, the people who like to get stumbling down drunk all the time are not for me. Can a man or a woman overlook the smoking and consider the person within and not the person on the outside? I know this works for both sexes. Your comments will be appreciated.
I can take it or leave it. I quit smoking for a long time, now do it only rarely in certain social situations, if I am outside. I would never smoke in someone's house, even if I wanted a cigarette, and never smoked in restaurants or bars, even when it was permitted. It doesn't bother me, it's not an issue on if someone smokes or not, unless it's chain smoking, it leaves very little time for anything else, and you wind up smelling like a smoke stack.

As far as cutting years off my life? I'll be leaving this earth when it is my time and not before. So, while I will open mouth and insert cigarette,
Yes, I am a smoker as well, bash away..lol My father was 86 yrs. old when he died of a heart attack, he smoked for over 40 years, granted he quit when he was 80. But still, 40 years!!!!
however, I am a considerate smoker, I could date a non-smoker, but I'm not quitting for anyone but myself. And I just don't think I want to have to go outside of my own home to smoke. So a long term relationship is destined to not work.

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 1/15/2007 9:51:02 AM | Ironline those teens that are smoking are breaking the law. I would have no problem dating a smoker and I have. One thing I do not like about smokers on a date is that you can be having a nice flow of conversation and than they have to leave for a few minutes to feed the addiction. That kind of sucks. I try to judge people though on who they are inside . | |

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 1/15/2007 11:17:55 AM | I find the same situation exists for me too.Even though I am quite fit and capable.....I hear the same garbage.....It's like kissing an ash tray,or you get preached at or some other form of b.s.! I know people have a right to there views and I'm the type that would fight for there right to do so!However I've never seen one thing that can turn somebody off more.Even if your a great person w/ a good heart and you have your life together.....that one thing will kill it for ya! So I don't e-mail or deal w/ someone who doesn't smoke, that way I am not walking on eggshells or something.Must be the new climate about smoking(rest. and bars around the country are banning it)! I guess the thing that drives me nuts is most people have some type of vice.....ours is just bieng persecuted and outlawed these days....Hold on next year it will be something new and different! Boxers versus briefs or Mini-cooper versus S.U.V.! ...........Bosoxx | |

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 1/15/2007 11:31:16 AM | No one knows how the cigarettes will affect them...will they be the ones who live to be 86 or will they be the ones who find out they have cancer at 50....different things affect different people, differently....it is a matter of personal choice...
as for the government and places of businesses changing things, why not? the government is paying out millions to take care of people with little or no health insurance who develop smoke related illnesses...then you have people who smoke for years and years, who want to turn around and sue the tobacco companies...it's ridiculous...if you choose to ignore the warnings and develop a smoke related illness then you need to take care of yourself, your illness, and not try to sue someone over it...
it is also my personal choice not to smoke, and not to date a smoker...have I tried? yes, it's disgusting to kiss that person, their clothes, hair, body reeks of smoke...when i go to a club to dance, when i get home i have to take a bath and wash my hair to get the smell off of me...it disgusts me...and that's from dancing for a couple hours in a club...the couple of times i dated smokers, a few lied to me, because they knew i wouldnt like it, and a few would brush their teeth, use mouthwash and eat a ton of mints in order to kiss me...why should kissing be that much of a hassle...i have a dear friend who is a chain smoker, and i can't even stand being in her house long..it just reeks...i don't begrudge her the right to light up in her house...but she will not light up in mine

Actually... according to a Dutch Government study, lifetime healthcare costs are 5% lower for smokers than non-smokers, because smokers die sooner thus avoiding old age healthcare costs... and that doesn't even take into account savings in Social Security. The government should be paying us to smoke.

It isn't necessary to take my word for it, nor is it necessary to question the sources or their motives. Just use some common sense.
Is it expensive to maintain the health of the elderly, year after year after year?
Do smokers die sooner, thus avoiding that expense?
Do the math. The Dutch Government did. Being that they provide cradle to grave healthcare, they wanted to know how much money they could save if everyone quit smoking. Their study found the opposite result.
