For every rude smoker there is a rude non-smoking cult member. bottom line....do not date a smoker if it offends you. that is your choice. In the same way that I choose not to date red-neck, pick-up driving, over opinionated cult members
You're my hero fritz!!!
I am a very considerate smoker. I don't taste like an ashtray because that's what they make listerine breath strips for and febreeze takes care of the clothes, I don't block doors, and I don't take breaks at work. I think anyone who makes generalizations about ANY group of people is ignorant. Enough breath wasted.

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 1/23/2007 5:41:12 PM | | Possibly...but it would have to be someone who is very tolerant of the smell of stale cigarette smoke (in his house, his car, on his clothes, his breath, eventually on her clothes, not to mention the nicotine-stained fingers, teeth.....ick..), which I fully admit I am not. I find it disgusting. I think even most smokers can admit that cigarette smoking has its disgusting aspects, even to them. Maybe a fellow smoker can ignore all that, or accept it as the price they pay for the habit, but I think a lot of non-smokers just don't want to be around it. Then perhaps there's the whole thing about wanting to be with someone who cares about their own health and well-being, and let's face it, EVERYONE knows that smoking cigarettes KILL people. Why not just quit? For your own health and well-being, number one. Don't you deserve that? | |

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 1/23/2007 6:08:08 PM | WHY NOT? I don't understand why a woman wouln't date a man that smokes , it is suppose to be about the person and what they are inside not outside, but sadly that isn't always true. I f a woman feels that way about a man that smokes then whatelse would she have a problem with?

Have you thought about seeking help. Anger management classes to start with. I checked out your profile and it looks like you have a wad of chew stuck in your lower lip in one of your photos. Now that is an attractive habit. Does your 70k truck come with a spit cup? And why such a big truck? Are you compensating for a lack of something in other areas? And by the way hit spell check every once in a while. It is one thing to sound ignorant in what you say. But when you misspell every other word in your profile you kind of remove all doubt.

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 1/26/2007 5:51:41 PM | | I too am a smoker unfortunately and I feel the exact same as you. Do we put a red X on our foreheads or what? I am not looking for dating at the moment but I would hate to think that this would be a problem if I were. It is bad enough that they teach kids in school that people that smoke are doing drugs. I do not do illegal drugs nor am I what you would say a drinker but guess that I am branded because I smoke cigarettes. Maybe one day I will quit but I hope that I will not be like some people that were former smokers and fuss about it all the time. | |

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 1/30/2007 7:40:01 PM | I don't date smokers as I have asthma and it causes painful chain reactions. I can't tolerate smokey places with lots of lingering smoke. For a long time, i couldn't go to resturants because smoke doesn't stay in designated smoking areas. Georgia passed a no smoking law last year or the year before last where there is only smoking in designated areas, none of them public and I feel like i can go out in the world again and enjoy being with people.
Not to mention, smoking gives you really bad breath and makes your clothes smell.

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 2/5/2007 6:54:21 AM | | I'm a smoker and lived with a non-smoker. I quit for her(wrong reason) and due to a lot of stress in our relationship I started up again. I try to be considerate of non-smokers by not smoking around them. I don't throw my butts out of the car window. Even in an open air bar, I'll go off by myself to smoke. I think it can work if the smoker is considerate of their partner and the non-smoker isn't a smoking Nazi about it. But it's probably best not to date a non-smoker if you aren't one yourself. Relationships are hard enough even under the best of conditions. Just my 2 cents | |

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 2/8/2007 10:22:55 AM | I am very health conscious, workout everyday, and never smoke at all. I used to never date smokers. However, I find many women that smoke sexy and attractive. It is a turn-on with certain women. A certain anti-authoritarian quality, independant, pleasure seeking. I wish there were more of them. When I was a young waiter I always fought to wait on the smokers because these were the people who were there to spend money and have a good time. No hot cups of tea, no dressing on the side, no checks split seven ways. It was steaks medium rare, best wine in the house, let's celebrate tonight for tomorrow we may all die. These were the people who knew how to live and were a joy to be around. I know it's dangerous. Life is dangerous too, and some of those people who choose not to live in fear but wish to experience all life has to offer choose to light up and enjoy a cigarette. | |

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 2/10/2007 4:06:36 PM | | Hmmm...I'm a non-smoker, practically a vegetarian (so no steak for me, sorry), and I love to eat out and order whatever I want (yes, even expensive wine). I enjoy life, buy nice things for myself, and I always tip well, because I appreciate how hard waitstaff work. I like to think I have a "we're all going to die, anyway, so why not enjoy it why you're here" attitude, and I certainly don't think that only smokers feel that way. Ironically, we non-smokers actually will be around longer to spend, eat well, tip well, and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. I think it's sexy to love yourself and want to be healthy. I find that watching others indulge in self-destructive behaviors (all of them, not just smoking) evokes pity or disgust in me, not desire. Just my two cents' worth. | |

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 2/13/2007 11:19:14 AM | I smoke, and date a non-smoker... I was worried about it at first. But what the hell... if that was something that bothered her, then we would never have had a second (and subsequent) dates...
You just have to find someone that knows that you do smoke... be polite about it.... and ... be expected to take some crap about smoking from time to time...

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 2/13/2007 11:59:02 AM | I completely agree. Smoking is a deal breaker for me as well. I can't handle second hand smoke, I have really weak lungs due to chronic bronchitis and asthma. I think a lot of times, I don't really enjoy smokers because the taste cigarettes/cigars leave in a man's mouth, is really unattractive to me. But so is beer.
I've had uncle's who have died from weakened lungs and organs due to heavy drinking and smoking, so I don't want to have to be a widow of a man who selfishly smoked and drank knowing that one day it could be damaging and leave me alone.

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 2/13/2007 12:35:53 PM | When I didn't smoke, I dated smokers. I smoke now, and I have dated non-smokers that hate cigarettes. It's all about respect; I didn't smoke near them, I didn't kiss them if I had a cigarette, and I made sure to brush my teeth and use mouthwash a few times a day. I know I didn't like the smell/taste of the smoke when I quit for a while, so I show that same respect to non-smokers, whether I am kissing them or not.

Understandable, but it's not *just* smoking that will do that to you. I know of a smoker that is in far better health than many non-smokers out there, because he exercises, eats right, and runs. His chance of getting lung cancer is greater than the other person, but he's not going to die of heart failure, complications from clogged arteries, etc.
Smoking is really a disgusting habit that I wish I did not pick up when I was younger, but you can still get along with/date non-smokers as long as you don't reek of smoke and you take care in showing non-smokers respect.
My $0.02. | |

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 2/13/2007 12:47:20 PM | Just like with every other part of a relationship, it is all about respect. I am a non-smoker, but am dating a smoker. He is extremely considerate, always smokes outside and not around my kids. I have no problem with this whatsoever. (I do worry about his health, but he is an adult and the decision is his.)
Previously, I dated a man who smoked in the house, blew it in my face and was never considerate. This is not acceptable.
Again, it is just about respect. Had I made the statement "I will never date a smoker", I would not be in the wonderful, loving, caring, respectful relationship I am in. To me, there are so many more important qualities in a person to look for and I can certainly look past a cigarette.
I wish for you only love and happiness...

| Can a smoker get a date with a non smoker? Posted: 2/26/2007 7:25:52 PM | Hey Dovestreasure,
You should get up to speed on air PURIFIERS, not filters. A combination of ozone and negitive ions not only will REMOVE the odor of cigarettes, but will break down all the toxins put out by them that are in the carpet, drapes, etc. Even in the winter when the heater is not running, there will be no "haze" hanging in the air. By running one of these purifiers, you also are not exposed to the other toxins of everyday indoor life, benzines, formaldihyde, dust, animal dander, mold spores, the list goes on. If you walked into my house, you could not tell there was a smoker there, or dogs, or a litter box with many kitties.........it just smells clean. This not just from a nose dead pack a day smoker, but from my Mother who might as well live in a bubble from her chemical allergies, and my house is one of the few places she can go and not be affected, my smoking and all.
