Posted: 2/19/2008 12:09:45 PM | Bet he makes more than minimum wage( slapping my own wrist for being so petty). I had a friend from West Virginia who married at 13 just to get out of the her parents house. Hers was a story that made me realize how well I had it as a kid. Without all the facts its hard to say what the motivations were but at first glance it seems oh so wrong. My son worked a construction site where the 40 something job super married a 21 year old girl, sounds terrible until the fact comes out that she was working as a foreigner on a work visa and she gets to be a citizen here if she can handle staying married to the guy for a couple of years. Personally I think she is paying a very high price. But thats their business transaction. Thats the trouble with these forums, you only get the info the OP gives and have to form an opinion on that. I would be very upset if my 18 year old daughter made this decision, thats all I can add.
On the other hand my parents were 15 years apart in age, she was 30 and he 45 when they married. They were married 52 years until he died at 97 and were very happy, go figure. | |

I am sure the 40 yr old man would feel proud to know he "still has it" at his age plus having someone at that young age go for him would boost his ego "HOWEVER" the things they would share about life/goals/direction as time goes on would be limiting.
I am not saying it couldn't work but going to social events, parties and just plain being out together in public could be awkward....BUT if they are in "LOVE" then nothing wouldn't matter to them.
I too have dated some women much younger than me (tho I myself am young-looking) but there comes a point in time where one has to face reality that the -Maturity- level is off balance especially at the age gap......FACE the FACTS believe me!!
So ...if one is willing to stand up to some ridicule/stealing from the baby's crib/public criticism then "Go for It".....some people out there who are up there in age can act immature as well so what is the difference?? | |

I dated someone alot younger than myself and he was more of a man than anyone I have ever known. We connected on alot of levels and he just got me more than anyone ever has. I would never regret that experience with him and to this day we remain good friends. Depending on the situation of both people and the level of committment that you share. You never know what can happen, sometimes, I truly believe that love can be ageless (to a certain extent of course lol) | |

I used to be married to a man 25 years older than me and the age was not an issue.
It could be good for both, maybe just what they both need.
The 18 y.o. could be a very smart girl as well, not necessarily stupid.
People are different. Obviously better to get married later in life ( I think) but,
if they are legally adults and sane, it's up to their judgment and nobody else's. | |

I think that depends on who you talk to in those societies...Talk to the teen girl being married and turns out she is being pressured/forced to marry someone twice her age but doesnt want to do.......Ive interviewed several Muslim girls who were married against their will and no one stepped in to help them becasue it was assumed "the culture" had a right to this...Well, forced and pressured marriage is wrong no matter what culture is doing it.....People should not assume that just because something is culturally sanctioned doenst mean its not abusive and unfair and oppressive, particularly to women and girls..Ive seen American couples like this where the woman is 24 and met her husband when she was around 15-16...He is 8-10 years older than her ..She gets pregnant and her childhood is over by age 16 or 17....Until she acts out all those years that were robbed from her by the adult man who impregnated her......Then he cant understand why shes not "instantly 32" like he is and wants to party with her friends while he wants her to settle down...I just look at him and think thats what you get for dating a teenager when you were an adult..There are no skipping growth phases here just because you are the older one...Now you have to live thru dealing with hers...Thats the consequences of impregating a teenager....Then she surpasses him maturity wise in a few years and cant take his overcontrolling behaviors as she gets more confident and mature and they divorce... | |

Posted: 2/20/2008 12:40:53 PM | Been there, done that. It was horrible. I WAS 18 and he WAS 41. I only did it because it was an escape from what I already had. Yes, I was legal at that age, but I sure WASN'T mature enough to know right from wrong. He was. The whole relationship should have never happened - and it lasted 5 very abusive years.
While I don't have an issue with the age difference, I DO have issue with the age of the youngest person at the time. 18 is just too young for someone that old. At 18, you have no life experience.
Believe me - I thought I had experience - I grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, I worked 2 jobs while going to highschool, you name it, I did it. But I had no experience dealing with 'the big picture' of life. | |

Posted: 2/20/2008 1:56:50 PM | wow another age forum. I know a lady that is now in her forties. when she was 18 she married a guy in his 30s. Now that was his late 30s. They are still together as of this date. I am 56 now and I knew her from when she was in high school. She graduated with my sisters class. She has five kids and she is still very much in love with this man as she was when she married him. All the older folks around made comments it would never last. Said she was not grown enough to know what she wanted. Said he was a monster for go after an 18 year old. Funny thing was no one asked her but she chased him. She was of legal age and it started out in his eyes as just to get it out of her system and it developed into him loving her. Another thing was he never once had anything to do with her until she turned 18 other than to talk to her. The lady and I have talked about it for she and I had a thing about older people for dating. OT: We can not judge her or him with out knowing all that is involved.

(Just a note: Older women aren't second place to a younger one sexually, except maybe through appetite and frequancy desired. Older women are actually much better sexually because of experience, confidnece, and blah, blah....less frequancy required)
The thought of older men with younger women being some sort of great sexual thing is hugely overrated. Some younger females are mature way beyond their age though and say that guys their own age don't do anything for them, they need the maturity to feel connected. So leave them alone, they know what does it for them or not.
Others have other reasons, but it's all the same to me. Everyone has his/her own boat to row and I'm not their moral judge.
All I can say is if you are happy and it works for you..congradualations!
Besides with half the old women on here looking for young kids why is it so different if a guy does it?????? I hate that inequality. If a man does it he's a pedophile, if a woman does it she's a cougar..........shit...shes sick!!!!!!!!!
There are a number of young gals 18 -28 who have been trying to convince me we could be happy together, this blog almost made me decide to try it just out of spite......LOL (Don't worry, it's not going to happen.......LOL)  | |
