| 18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man? Posted: 6/23/2008 2:55:17 PM | legally when you turn 18 you are considered an "adult" but what about emotionally? 18 year olds are still kids, at least the ones i have known were. think back when you were that age, were you mature enough for marriage and all it's responsibilities?? probably not. - curveyone We all age & mature differently, but in my personally experience, most 18 year olds were not kids, as you say. Some people do mature different, I have met guys my age (mid 40's), who act like 18 year olds. You need to find someone who is compatible with you, that unique individual that YOU are. Just my perspective. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
I wonder if those that think this is ok, what be ok if it were the woman that was the older person. I wouldn't date much less marry someone 29, but in general would it be ok for a 51 year old woman to marry a 29 year old man(29 instead of 18, because 51 is 11 years older than the age of 40. The age of the man in this situtation.) Let's even throw in the idea that this 29 year old man already has 3 children from another marriage and doesn't want anymore children. These two people love each other, get along perfectly, have much in common. - bcsofnc57 Now there's the catch, kids. And in my personal opinion, the only thing that should matter, in an age-difference relationship. After all bcsofnc57, your own profile says
As to age, it doesn't matter to a point. If you are younger than my children, or older than my mother, yes it does start to matter. Really depends on the person. If we get along great, then age matters less. - bcsofnc57 So clearly, you have flexibility & open-minedness on the subject of age. As many people, myself included do.

| 18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man? Posted: 7/1/2008 11:11:20 AM | | Hmm when I was 20 I dated a 42 year old man for several months and it was WONDERFUL- that's about the same difference age wise- I didn't feel any older at 20 than I did 18- certainly no wiser- did I worry about cutting my adolecense short?? no- I wanted to be grown up- like most 17-20 year olds do, so that didn't matter. It's all good, in my opinion, as long as both parties are treating each other with respect. | |

| 18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man? Posted: 7/1/2008 11:26:16 AM | | I think she is messing up her own life. An 18 yr old and a 40 yr old got no business together unless of course she is looking for father figure. She will miss out on all the things kids her age do, true love, amoung many ohter things. A 40 yr old should know better to begin with. in another 10 yrs he will not be able to keep up with her and the things she wants to do. at his age , she will wnat younger in time. sex will diminish until it no longer exist but by then she will have wasted alot of her life messing with a much older man. Its plum crazy. | |

| 18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man? Posted: 7/1/2008 12:03:27 PM | I wouldent say she's cutting her single life short - a large amount of people (in my circles) married in their early twenties. The only real factor is the age - and while I don't think they could relate with one another, who can really say?
Age ranges have bounced all over the place for centuries - I figure it better for her to be with a good-hearted 40 year old, then a violent and drunk 20 year old. (shrug)

| 18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man? Posted: 7/4/2008 7:44:53 PM | | Shari1968, why did you only date the 42-year-old for several months if it was good? I am just curious, and I would e-mail you privately to ask, but your e-mail filter excludes us Americans crazy enough to live outside the USA. | |

When I am 40 one day I want to marry a pretty little young thing , unbittered, unworn , still with hope , smiles at everything and loves to party , by that time I am sure I will still love to party .
People who marry young divorce jus tlike the older ones , what is the difference arses and biatches come in all ages
FINALLY someone on these forums has something right AND cool to say. I'm telling you these boards are full of wannabe love-shrinks it's mad annoying.
As for the age thing, I don't know them and I couldn't care less, so good luck to them. I too have nothing wrong with and am flattered to know that girls as young as 19 find me attractive, same goes to girls much older than me. Girls my age on the other hand have issues.
That and girls my age tend to want to dumb me down so no young ones can check me out. neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeext

| 18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man? Posted: 7/4/2008 8:59:02 PM | One word.......SICK.....
When I was 40 my eldest girl was 18 the other 17.....what is the goodness in that???
Why because she is young and does not know better and two he does not have the ability to accomodate a real woman nearer his age.
The only difference between him and a dead animal on the street is the brake marks in front of the animal.

| 18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man? Posted: 7/4/2008 10:04:37 PM | Wow... So, if she does not "know any better," whose fault is that? It seems to me that 18 years is a long time, and with a good father, she should be able to know much about life and relationships. So, if I have an 18-year-old girlfriend, it is because I could not accomodate a woman my age? Interesting. I could learn a lot from a wise old man like you.

Posted: 7/4/2008 10:11:18 PM | | First of all Gringo, neither of my daughters would because they were raised with common sense...I do detect though if you had one yours would not. And for someone with your thought pattern..there would be at least backup marks on you.

| 18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man? Posted: 7/5/2008 12:24:04 AM | Handierman, you did bring a smile to my face tonight. Thanks.
I think you are trying to compare every 18-year-old to your daughters. They are not all the same, nor all your daughters. The fact is, I have not exactly been looking for anyone that young, and would generally consider someone that age too young for me maturity-wise and emotionally. However, I did meet someone that age, and she is the sweetest women I have ever met. So, without your approval, I am going to see where this goes. My only reason for being at this thread is to learn from the experiences of other women that were much younger, and learn from their experiences -good and bad - and their opinions.

| 18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man? Posted: 7/5/2008 12:37:46 AM | I'm 47 and I've got a gorgeous, loving-hearted 20 year old who's on the verge of starting her own business who keeps asking me about marriage and I keep ignoring her.
What do we think about that? She's concerned about how I think about her (which is a first) and tries to impress me (I feel a bit sorry for her over that) but maybe the main thing holding me back is what other people will think. Hell, even I think it's wrong.
But there's an even more important point for me to worry about. She might kill me in bed.
Sometimes I think we imagine we live forever you know and we don't see that no matter what relationships you have they've all got 'countdown clocks' built in.

| 18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man? Posted: 7/5/2008 12:57:55 AM | GO FOR IT GIRLY
love shouldn' t have barriers, well least i don't think so and judging by most of the population they also think the same.
who are we to say what is right or wrong, but the two people themselves are the only one that can decide that. its not sick as a certain person put on her, but a wonderful journey that two people embark on together, wherever it ends up is or no concern to anyone else.
"better to have loved and lost than not to have love at all" is my motto.
good luck to you hun i wish you and your guy all the best.

| 18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man? Posted: 7/5/2008 1:01:52 AM | | Since when does whom we love, have anything to do with common sense? Common sense just comes into it later, when you use it in the relationship, to smooth the day to day. Be happy, Solar panel. If you find someone you care for, who cares what age they are, if they have 6 heads or what the neighbours think? And, as you said, everything in life has a countdown clock. Better to live and enjoy and worry about the end , when it comes. | |

| 18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man? Posted: 7/5/2008 4:32:58 AM | | Thats a 22 year age difference - Sounds a bit barmy if you ask me. Opens up the potential for a great deal of complication as the year progresses, not least because when the husband collects his pension the girl will be 43. | |

| 18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man? Posted: 7/5/2008 4:56:16 AM | | More importantly, what does the forty year old want with the 18 year old? I want to know how young is too young? I contacted a man on this site without looking at his age, he is 39. I'm 20 and after I actually looked at his profile a little more I was disgusted. What does a man who is 40 have in common with people my age? I like to party hard and have a good time, I bet you he is in bed by nine lmao. So what is that 20 year old going to do when her hunny wants to go to bed and she wants to stay up all night? | |

| 18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man? Posted: 7/5/2008 10:02:57 AM | SolarPanel, you are correct that no one lives forever, but no one dies at the same age automatically. We also have a great deal of control over this (nutrition, habits, etc). Most 5-year-olds are very similar to other's their age, but the same cannot be said at 50, and especially not at 80. I know people who died at 60, and another that still is working at 100 (he is a doctor in northern Mexico). Take care of yourself, and make the most of every opportunity.
But there's an even more important point for me to worry about. She might kill me in bed. Sometimes I think we imagine we live forever you know and we don't see that no matter what relationships you have they've all got 'countdown clocks' built in.

| 18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man? Posted: 7/5/2008 10:15:08 AM | | What is wrong with the guy!!! Obviously he can not handle that fact that "HE" is getting older. The big picture...he will be 60, ready to retire, but will have nothing left because he will probably be paying for child support until he drops. Totally unfair to her and the children they may have as well. Not many of those May/September relationships last in my humble opinion. Sorry I am so biased on this one, but I have a half brother 15 years younger than me whose dad died when he was 8. | |
