Yet again, to them, and their culture, they may see nothing inappropriate. I personally do think 14 & 17 are wayyyy to young for anything, and for many young women, I'd say likewise. It's on the person in question, and it might be a little judgemental to say their actions were otherwise indecent. For me, yeah.
Yet another feeble attempt to slam me.

They were married at least twenty years that I know of, and seemed to be very happy. I think it should be between the man and woman in question. All other people can do is judge them and make snide comments, that's it.
I have a question... why is this thread only about an 18 year old woman and a 40 year old man? To have an honest discussion the opposite should be brought up as well. What do you all think about a 40 year old woman marrying an 18 year old man? Are your opinions the same across the board? One more question... why are women that see younger men called cougars, and men that see younger women called pervs? I think there is a double standard at work here. Personally, I don't care what two other adults do, it's their choice. | |

Posted: 7/19/2008 3:43:09 PM | I married when I was 26 to a 40 year old. It was fine for a couple of year and we have 2 great children together. As we aged.....we grew apart. He's now 58 (and wants to curl up on the sofa with slippers), I'm 44 and still have the same stamina as I did when I was 18!....meaning I'm very active....god you've got dirty minds lol.
I don't think it will work but that could happen with all relationships I guess. | |

MR ~ you clearly misunderstood, I stated that my last ltr was with someone 9 years younger and yes, it was marriage. However, since I don't plan on EVER marrying again, there won't be marriage-comtemplation anytime for any amount of time. So I suppose if you find that an awfully long time to consider marriage ~ so be it. I know many who have contemplated marriage for much longer than 9 years. Some people don't find the need, don't see it's value nor are interested in the Americanized version of what marriage means or does not mean. Personally, I make it clear from the onset of anything ~ marriage is not happening in the remainder of my lifetime. There is no need, been there ~ done that ~ don't need to do it again. 
I"m unclear how someones traits are so well defined to rest squarely within a +-4 yr time frame.
You very well may be unclear, I am not. Have tried years in either direction and I do best with someone from my very own time-zone. So, that's where I stick and there is no varying from that. Personal preferences that I don't feel needs validation, explanation or banter about. I would assume ~ that you're preferences may work for you ~ they wouldn't be an option for me. The glory of knowing who we are ~ you are entitled to view it as you wish and so am I!! Happy posting. | |

I acually was in the truck sittin between them on the way to town, I ask my father if he would marry my mother and then I asked my mother if she would marry my father. Hey at 13 yrs old wierder things can happen.
Now they have been married for 13yrs and have been together 28yrs. There are no 2 people that are happier or more in love still to this day. | |

As I previously mentioned my wife is nine years younger but that's only a small part of it. Not only did we grow up speaking different languages but we have different religions and different political views. Our cultures are different. She grew up in the city and I in the country. We have nothing in common! 
This idea of "what will they have in common", "what will they talk about", "how will they relate" really does not play a big part in a relationship. Our conversations are based on her and I, today and tomorrow, not what some political figure is doing or what we did when we were 10 years old.
I'm retired and she just left her secure, government job to start her own business. Not only did I encourage her but I invested financially in the business.
We talk about the business. We talk about vacations. We talk about our pet. We talk about redecorating our home. We talk about what plants we'll put in the garden. We talk about what we'll have for dinner. The point being we talk about NOW.
We've been together 12 years and to be honest neither one of us thought we'd make it 12 days because, like so many others, we believed all those unimportant things mattered. The reality was they didn't.
The chemistry, the "I want you!" feeling, was more than sufficient. Yesterday didn't matter and I suggest those who seek a partner spend less time comparing similarities and just meet. If the connection is there the similarities or lack thereof won't make any difference.

First of all, she's 18, I doubt they could have stopped her. If it wasn't legal to get married at 18 in her state, there are plenty of states where it is. Second of all, an 18 year old child marrying someone old enough to be her father is LOOKING for a father, so it's doubtful she has one to even try to stop her from getting married, or if she does, he's the type to just be glad someone else is now supporting her. | |

They are much happier than couples I have seen close to each others age. Most marriages don't work because one of the 2 don't want it to. Or gives up. Or thinks the grass is much greener on the other side like my ex did. She found out it wasn't too. Wants me to take her back. LOL! After all the pain she put me thru there is nothing left.
So I am moving on. And thats the problem with most of the women I have met on here. They can't move on and put the past behind them. I have so many issues from previous relationships they can't seem to start over and fresh. | |

Oh I agree. That's why I like dating (I'm not the marrying kind) men as young as in their early 30's...nothing remotely dried up there I assure you. 
Sounds like some of the old hags here feel threatened, im sure he can keep her happy in bed and for him its better than cellulide and vericous veins and some dried up ol bag...
And I hope the author of this heartfelt post ^ will forgive my boldness in taking the liberty of slightly altering it in order to make it fit a female's (or old hag's) point of view. We could sit and be judgemental on what is good or bad with it. But for what reason at 18 she is suppose to be an adult and if she was raised to know her mind like my nieces and nephews were then She knew what she wanted. We don't know the whole story behind it and personally I don't care. My last relationship was with a woman 16 years my younger and I could care less what people thought as did she. No ones business in the matter but thiers. Personally I wouldn't be with a girl that young but I also have my limits set to where I will date from 39 to 65 so I must be a dirty ole man now. Frankly as long as the couple enjoy each others company and they walk into a relationship knowing full well what they are doing then for the love of god it is not my place to judge them in any way at all. Nor is it anyone elses place either.

Ahhh, the memories. I had a quick relationship with a gal who owned an exercise training spa for women. You could bounce a dime off her butt.
The problem is unless one faithfully exercises and builds up muscle there is no butt if there isn't a bit of fat. A round, muscular butt is ideal, however, I'd rather have a butt with some fat than no butt at all. When the ride gets wild one has to have something to hold on to. There's nothing more distracting than no butt and the sensation a gal's legs are attached directly to her back. | |
