Hey, relax, I'm a Canadian, I root for Team Canada, I play hockey, I played Major Junior, I vote. I have been a citizen since 1977. I love CANADA!
A european is a state of mind, like anything else we choose to define ourselves by. "I am a vegetarian" "I am a geek" LOL "I am a gear-head".
I prefer to stay that way, do you question a chinese person when they say "I am chinese"?
or a first nations, of whom I have a dozen friends, when they say "I am a Cree"?
NO, but you question me...I am a Canadian before anything else, I have lived in europe for over a decade of my life. 13 years. I eat European food, I drink espresso, I play soccer, I watch English, Italian and German Soccer every week. Get it? I also train Kung Fu and Muay Thai with my chinese and thai instructors. I have friends from Africa, Asia, South America.
Noone ever talks about Canada or feels strongly anout Canada. So what is it to you?
Canadian identity should be taught in mandatory classes for immigrants. I would love to learn about it. France expects immigrants to learn about French life and customs. Or they used to.
It would be great and very connective for new Canadians. It might reduce the level of reliance on Gov't assistance. I think Canadiana is not known enough, despite CBC miniseries.

Is there a parallel figure in history, who has wielded so much power? None before him.
Maybe his humility has a personal, historical context as he realises his unique position?
Who can know for sure?

listen, i'm not going to be your next little mindless recruit to believe in conspiracy theories. i think you read The Enquirer a little too much. i know the world is big, but it also doesn't revolve around you.
see, here's the thing. you claim i'm a "sheep" because i don't believe in the same things as you. you claim i'm doing nothing but sitting on my ass. what exactly are you doing? all i see you doing is bashing the US. how does that help your "cause"? what ARE you doing? you sit here and read articles online and throw links all over the place. are you researching alternative energies? are you investing in it? i hope you are because you preach a hell of a lot about it.
here's the problem, i could give you an apple one day and you wouldn't believe me that there is nothing wrong with it. you think that it's poisoned and that i'm trying to kill you. but all along it was only an apple. you look into things too much. i don't believe everything our government says but that doesn't mean i have to agree with all the conspiracy theories out there. sorry but i'd rather just live my life and let the government do it's job. all i can do is vote. and i do. | |

I made the mistake of trying to argue with some of these people. I should've known better. I AM surprised at how many "American Politics" experts are from Canada, though. I feel for them, though, I really do. Cuz, like you said, they can't really do anything but say "You're wrong!" and toss out links. They ask questions, and I try to answer them. I ask questions, and they don't even bother responding to them. As much as they hate what some of our politicians do, they can't change a single thing about it. it doesn't matter, the truth of tha matter is that i'm 19 years old which means i'm pretty young, these people call me a sheep because i don't believe what they believe. but if you believe what someone else is telling you then doesn't that consider you a sheep? so i guess that would mean everyone is a sheep. it doesn't matter though...

By the way, I know that a lot of Canadians do have a view on America, because we sort of get affected by your foreign policies and stuff like that.
Americans are generally a decent kind of folk, in my opinion(HT55!), and most of us up here share that sentiment.

That's exactly what George Bush has done. America's mega billion dollar war in Iraq is indeed a NUCLEAR WAR.
Depleted Uranium On The Battlefield
Bush-Cheney have delivered upon 17 million Iraqis tons of depleted uranium (DU) weapons, a "liberation" gift that will keep on giving. Depleted uranium is a component of toxic nuclear waste, usually stored at secure sites. Handlers need radiation protection gear.
Over a decade ago, war-makers decided to incorporate this lethal waste into much of the Pentagon's weaponry. Navy ships carrying Phalanx rapid fire guns are capable of firing thousands of DU rounds per minute. Tomahawk missiles launched from U.S. ships and subs are DU-tipped. The M1 Abrams tanks are armored with DU. These and British Challenger II tanks are tightly packed with DU shells, which continually irradiate troops in or near them. The A-10 "tank buster" aircraft fires DU shells at machines and people on the battlefield.
DU munitions are classified by a United Nations resolution as illegal weapons of mass destruction. Their use breaches all international laws, treaties and conventions forbidding poisoned weapons calculated to cause unnecessary suffering.
According to a report by the UN subcommission, laws which are breached by the use of DU shells include: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; the Charter of the United Nations; the Genocide Convention; the Convention Against Torture; the four Geneva Conventions of 1949; the Conventional Weapons Convention of 1980; & the Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907.
Support Our Troops
Ironically, support for our troops will extend well beyond the war in Iraq. Americans will be supporting Gulf War II veterans for years as they slowly and painfully succumb to radiation poisoning.
U.S. and British troops deployed to the area are the walking dead. Humans and animals, friends and foes in the fallout zone are destined to a long downhill spiral of chronic illness and disability. Kidney dysfunction, lung damage, bloody stools, extreme fatigue, joint pain, unsteady gait, memory loss and rashes, and ultimately, cancer and premature death await those exposed to DU.

DU Shells
When a DU shell is fired, it ignites upon impact. Uranium, plus traces of plutonium and americium, vaporize into tiny, ceramic particles of radioactive dust. Once inhaled, uranium oxides lodge in the body and emit radiation indefinitely. A single particle of DU lodged in a lymph node can devastate the entire immune system according to British radiation expert Roger Coghill.
The Royal Society of England published data showing that battlefield soldiers who inhale or swallow high levels of DU can suffer kidney failure within days. Any soldier now in Iraq who has not inhaled lethal radioactive dust is not breathing. In the first two weeks of combat, 700 Tomahawks, at a cost of $1.3 million each, blasted Iraqi real estate into radioactive mushroom clouds. Millions of DU tank rounds litter the terrain. Cleanup is impossible because there is no place on the planet to put so much contaminated debris. | |

If the links are verifiable (i.e. proveable) then there's nothing wrong with it. It's called citing your sources - and its something respectible news reporters do every day.
If they don't they usually get fired for writing bullsh*t.. Then they're forced to go work for FOX news or something...
To win a debate, you have to back up your arguments Bulldog. This is something that you've utterly failed to do.

You see Bulldog, here's the thing... adults debate. In fact, throughout the world of grown-ups, this whole 'discuss, debate, decide' approach to international relations is sort of 'standard fare'. Now, in your case, that's not so, which is cool, I guess, if that's all you're capable of, and you're welcome to that kind of approach. It's very similar to what the chimps seem to do at the Toronto zoo, actually, where they decide on a course of action of what they want...and just run headlong into doing it without care or concern for the others in the pen. Bless their hearts, they also play with their putz and throw their sh!t at each other, but we'll not get into that as far as comparisons go.
Canada, most European countries, and in fact everyone with the possible exception of Australia, Britain and United States governments, have made a point of keeping this an active debate because the stakes are much higher than a few hundred thousand innocents dead. Since George set a precedent and said he'd do it again in a heartbeat, the adults of the international community need to rationally sort out what to do with the big bully in the sandbox should he decide to go after Iran, North Korea or, I dunno, maybe Chile p!sses him off sometime...
The world changes,evolves and grows now because of debate and careful discussion. It's delicate, it takes time, and it often ends up with no one getting exactly what they want (but everyone getting something they need). It's a survival instinct...because might no longer makes right...it makes nuclear winter.
Canada (and hey, trust me, we're not exactly a lone voice in the wilderness here) decries U.S. actions because of two basic tenets most Canadians hold dear to their hearts.
1. If something is wrong, it can not be allowed to simply continue on without a word of protest.
2. You do not lower yourself in order to make a point. The high road may be lonely , but it holds the right path.
So to you it's just impotent complaining. Fair enough. Keep doing what you're doing, as there's not much point in wasting too much breath...the rest of the world will just keep on watching you, much as we do at the Toronto Zoo. | |

Depleted Uranium shells are simply the hardest metal known to man to use as a bullet. its capable of incredible penetration. it SIMPLY DOES NOT DISENTEGRATE, leaving a volitile cloud of nuclear fallout. no idea where you people get his dumb stuff from.
although you have the freedom of speech, please do not attempt to educate people with totally false statements. you can carry depleted uranium bullets in your belt. mass quantities is a different matter. but the fact is most of them are used in tank shells, and can you imagine anyone firing a tank round that busts up into a powder on impact? sorry. | |
